I will start this by saying I am not upset that they stood by their policies or that we were charged a cancelation fee, this is purely due to how we were treated by the owners of two rivers. Context they did not have, but I still believe holds some weight in this situation that my husband and I are over the age of 20 and we are home owners. My husband is also an active duty Marine, and this was an honest mistake on our part not a lack of follow through. This review is purely based on how my husband and I were spoken to and treated.
We booked a two night stay at two rivers and upon check in at 2pm we were informed that their policy is you must be at least 25 years of age to check in. My husband had booked the rooms through expedia and to our knowledge with reading the policies, because we needed to know if they were pet friendly, we did not see where the age requirement was listed. Which if it was listed that is our fault and we take responsibility for that, but what this review is a reflection of is how we were then treated in this situation.
The owner then immediately became "huffy" which is understandable because running a business is tough and money loss of a room is not good, but as the conversation continued the owner then said something very similar to "let me tell you something before it takes you another 10 years to figure out, if you put your information on a reservation which is a contract read the policies" which good advice, but the manner and belitting tone that it was delivered in was uncalled for, and unprofessional even if they were frustrated.
The second owner then arrived shortly after and when the man was on the phone with expeida expressed that a similar scenario had happened the night before with an individual attempted to check in under the age of 21,and it was the only room they weren't able to book out and he had called to have their listing fixed on their website. For context we booked our room 2 weeks prior. The man then asked the women who showed up shortly after and no knowledge that my husband am I were the scenario in front of her, "should we start charging a cancelation fee" the womens reply was delivered in an irrated way that they should start charging a fee and then turned to us to ask if we had been helped in a polite way when we informed her we were part of this senerio she had just replied to. She then remained in a perceived irrated demeanor for the remainder of the time we were in the office.
They ultimately gave use the number to call in order to cancel our reservation through expeida and turned us away, but due to the conversation the man had while we stood infornt of him we were charged that cancelation fee, which I understand.
We ultimately did the best of our ability to resolve the situation as did the owners, but I can not excuse to unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful behavior that was...
Read moreWe had pulled off to turn around to see an elk that was in the field down the road. It was a little before dark, still light. We were literally on the shoulder of the road and I got out to grab my camera from the trunk. A women ran out of the office screaming. I tried to nicely explain we were just turning around and she was VERY aggressive and I feared for MY LIFE. I walked down the road to get off the property ASAP. While my husband turned around..he is hearing impaired and didn't know there was an issue . She charged toward the vehicle waiving her arms. I would NEVER recommend staying here. I will Never go back to Byson City because of this display. I'm positive that any reply is going to try and justify this. Even on the off season, you have traveler's.. Revised after owner responded: We were perpendicular, on the shoulder of the road in the process of turning around towards Bryson City. Your wife did not come out until I was already at the trunk of the vehicle. As I stated before..my husband is hearing disabled and could not hear what was taking place. There was no posted "No trespassing " signs. Generally it's safer to turn around in a buisness parking lot then a residential area. Your "home" has a buisness sign and an office sign. If you don't want traveler's to stop in and inquire I suggest removing all signage, fence up and let the dogs out. Honestly puts me in mind of the...
Read moreQuaint, quiet, clean, friendly. The owners Blaine and Kathy, are very friendly, and helpful, and a pleasure to talk to. They are pleasant, and seem laid back, but obviously work hard at making your stay enjoyable, and providing their guests with a relaxed, memorable stay. My wife and I, were looking for something a little different, than the crowded, high pressured, intense stays at the so called vacation spots. Two Rivers Lodge provided that change of pace for us. We loved the covered porches outside all rooms, complete with a variety of comfortable gliders, rocking chairs, and old fashion metal lawn chairs, outside each of the rooms, depending on which room you are staying in. That gives it what I call, (that 1950's feel. An old time vacation if you will). The pool looked wonderful, and clean, although my wife and I did not use it. The large covered firepit, with multiple picnic tables, grills, gliders, and seating area just steps from the river is a wonderful place to mingle with other guests, if you so choose. For my wife and I, the icing on the cake, was the impromptu visit by "James" a huge bull elk, (or one of the other many elk), that strolls along the river semi regularly. It is quite an experience. Next time we are in the area. This is where we will be staying. Thank You, Blain and Kathy, for a...
