I rented a rZr 1000cc for the day on Thursday. I was very excited about trying a new trail system on a different machine. I love riding the Hatfield McCoy trails every year. And every day was A BLAST this week. Until I rented from here.
I don't know that it was anyone's fault... But the gentleman who did the walk around with me prior to heading to the trails absolutely sealed the deal for any fun we were going to have that day. Again, I know he's following policy... But to walk around the machine and point out every scratch, and even partially peeling decals... literally. And then remind me I'm responsible for anything new he sees when I return. Really? After dropping almost $500 for the rental... And then right before heading out on those trails? It was a real turn off and I never really got to enjoy any of the ride. Every noise or knock I heard, I made everyone in our group stop so I could check the machine was OK. Making sure the millions of rocks in the trails weren't going to cause a scratch. It was miserable for everyone.
When I returned and mentioned this to the gentleman who looks over the machine... He didn't even acknowledge me saying anything.... Just asked if anything broke or if it ran OK.
This isn't a place I'd go to expect the fun rides I'm used to having on the HM trails. For slow golf cart riding maybe.
Again, it wasn't his fault... But this was a huge let down for the last day of a great week.
Just an addition. I paid for the highest insurance available... And I think I spent 1500 on the security deposit? And I mentioned this to the gentleman who was doing the walk around... And he still told me that I'm responsible for anything new he saw upon my return.. Again, I'm not blaming anyone for this, I might have just been overly paranoid. It was just the way he put the fear into us prior to going out on trails like the HM trails.
The service was great. The facilities were immaculate. Just not for the fun I'm used to having on the HM trails. I was terrified I'd scratch it or cause the stickers to peel anymore than they already were... (as I was explicitly...
Read moreWe had a really great time and experience renting a cabin and side by side. The machine (General 1000) was literally brand new and performed great. Probably should air the tires down a bit, or at least check them first before you take off. There was an air gage in the glove box.
You can buy fuel there on site for 4 bucks a gallon. I think that's a fair price for the convenience.
You'll need to clean the machine prior to returning it. The only place to wash it is at a lil car wash up the road. It's a 2 bay car wash and one bay was out of order. Costs 8 quarters. Price is fair because of the water pressure, long wand, length of time it runs and for the poor soul that has to clean that mess. We spent 6 dollars and called it good.
Cabins were great. We had our dog with us and they were very accommodating. Everyone was friendly.
They were using a new system and getting everything completed was taking a little longer than I wanted. Probably more our fault for not completing the waivers prior to getting there. I was cranky after our drive up there and was probably putting off negative vibes. I apologize to the lady, if you see this.
It's a quiet place to stay, which I like. They have a noise policy in place to keep everything in check. Very clean and nice environment. Definitely...
Read moreThis place is awesome. The cabins are quaint and well appointed. The construction is very good and they look great. The little store on site as polite staff, a cooler with some raw meats and the like for your grill, gift items, and sells the passes for the trail.
The gas station across the street is full of friendly folks, good breakfast, pizza at lunch, and everything else a convenience store is supposed to have. They have non ethanol gas for your machines too.
The trails here are incredible. With a good mix of easy, intermediate, and hard, there are trails for everybody (greens are easy and safe enough for your kids to ride along). You need to come correct though, the blues are no joke, and the blacks are very challenging. Your machine needs to have good breaks and good tires to safely ride here. There are hill climbs, rocks, mud, and everything in between.
The trails are very well maintained. You can tell the staff really works hard to keep everything ridable.
Over all, I will definitely be returning. We had a great time, were challenged on the trails, and met some...
