There are many things to share about Camp on the Kentucky, so I will keep this review to what I would want to know as a camper who has never been there. Getting there: It is far away from the closest town. The drive is a little dicey if you're not used to windy, hilly roads. We've taken our camper on mountain roads in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and more and this road rivaled those in how tricky it was with a trailer. Would not recommend a "big rig." Sites: The sites we had (we were with another couple) were fine. They were right on the river, flat, and easy to set up in. The fire rings looked like someone has ran over with a car, but workable. The picnic tables were very dirty and needed to be cleaned, but that happens a lot in campgrounds. Bathrooms: Our trailer does not have a bathroom so this is an important amenity for us. The bathrooms were gross. Buggy, low on TP, and the shower was scary. The door didn't lock, and the stalls are shielded by a shower curtain only. The worst part of this campground are the bathrooms by far. Customer service: This one depends on what you want. The general store had nothing in it, and the firewood was wet so you definitely need fire starters and good kindling. Be prepared with all your essentials (unless you want to drive 20 miles) and don't count on a fire for cooking. The staff there brought us "local color". Do not expect any regular hours or there to be someone around to help you. But when you do interact, we found them to be friendly and wanted to hang out with us. Atmosphere: This is a small, casual campground with lots of seasonal and regulars. We were the "strangers" but were shown some pretty fantastic southern hospitality by the other campers (we are not southern ourselves). We never once felt unwelcome or like we should leave. We were there during the week, and as we were packing up our neighbor encouraged us to come back on a weekend so we could party with everyone.
Oh yes, and there are chickens that...
Read moreHORRIBLE EXPERIENCE ! Everyone should read !! Husband and I booked a 5 day/nite stay in the campground area. On day 3 we had taken our 2 miniature dachshunds to an RV site to visit a local resident across from the pool. REMEMBER this is a pet friendly site. The 2 pups get anxious and scared and started to bark. Bryan came across the road from the pool in an angry and aggressive tone stated "can you shut those dogs up, we cant hear the music at the pool. Keep in mind if you have ever been here to boomerang the music is pretty loud. It was total BS... As a therapist I have seen many clients in my time who were angry, aggressive, hostile and borderline threatening and Bryan was all the above. He did not know me or my husband to be that angry with us or even 2 small dogs. His anger appeared to be a projection of other issues he has going on. None the less it was unprofessional and unbecoming of not only a grown adult but as a business owner. I refused to let it rest. We decided to give him the $100.00 for the final night and leave early. On our way out I explained to Bryan just what I thought about his aggressive behavior and how I believe it should have been handled better without blaming 2 small dogs 250 feet away from a pool with loud music, stating they cant hear the music because of the dogs. Just nonsense !! I added if its dog friendly and (dogs do bark) let people know in advance if 5 barks or 8 barks are acceptable or not and post it. DO NOT randomly make up rules as you go !!! ABSOLUTELY A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE ! Even a full refund would not have kept us 1 more nite !...
Read moreNothing “wrong” per se with the camp site, but it felt very lacking. First, some positives were the fast and reliable WiFi and late check in and check out times. It was also pretty clean. Unfortunately it lacked the kind of homey or community feel I’ve gotten at other sites. It also seemed out of the way of everything, and the view wasn’t really breathtaking to make up for it. I love remote locations, but this just felt empty in the middle of nothing. The bathrooms were mostly clean, but the main doors didn’t shut properly, and there was only one shower in the men’s and women’s rooms that had the toilet in the same stall. We weren’t given any kind of information at check in like I’ve gotten at every other camp site. We had no picnic table at our site and none of the fire pits had grates if you wanted to cook over the fire. There’s also no emergency contact number. There was a stray dog (but still good boy) walking around the grounds in the morning, but we couldn’t call anyone about it. The office didn’t open till noon, so I’m not sure if that situation was ever resolved. Overall, it’s a fine campground in a pinch, but definitely my least favorite camping experience I’ve ever had. Nothing that made me want to come back and camp here again. For the owners, please at least have an emergency number to text or call outside of...
