I recently had the pleasure of spending an entire week at Flintlock Campground, situated in the picturesque town of Boone, North Carolina. From the moment I arrived, it was evident that this was a special place where they meticulously cared for by both its staff and long-term visitors.
One of the first things I noticed upon arrival was the warm welcome I received from the campground staff. They were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, eager to ensure that my stay would be comfortable and enjoyable. Their helpfulness set a positive tone for my entire visit, making me feel immediately at home.
The campground itself was maintained and clean, which speaks volumes about the dedication of its caretakers. Every area I explored was well-kept, from the common areas to the individual campsites. My particular site was a real gem, as it backed up to a beautiful stream that flowed through the campground. The soothing sounds of the running water provided a serene backdrop, enhancing the overall camping experience. I took several photos to capture the tranquility of the scene, and they truly do not do it justice.
Flintlock Campground offers a variety of accommodations, including simple cabins that add a quaint charm to the area. Although I did not stay in one of the cabins, I took the opportunity to explore them from the outside. They were well-maintained and inviting. It is worth noting, however, (from what I have been told from other visitors) that these cabins do not include bathrooms or kitchenettes.
The communal shower and bathroom facilities were clean, at least on the men’s side, which I used during my stay. Cleanliness in shared facilities is always a concern for campers, but Flintlock Campground clearly takes pride in maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation. This attention to detail made using these facilities a pleasant experience.
For those who need to do laundry during their stay, the campground provides two washers and dryers on the premises (coin operated). This convenience is a thoughtful addition, especially for longer stays or families with children. The availability of laundry facilities added an extra layer of comfort to my camping experience, ensuring that I had everything I needed without having to leave the campground.
One aspect of Flintlock Campground that stood out was the sense of community among its visitors. It was apparent that many of the sites were occupied by seasonal campers who return year after year. This consistency suggests a strong track record of visitor satisfaction and excellent campground management. The communal atmosphere was further enhanced by the frequent interactions among guests, many of whom seemed to know each other well. It was heartwarming to see such camaraderie, and it made the campground feel like a close-knit community.
The only drawback I noticed was that the campsites are relatively small. However, this compact layout fosters a more community-oriented environment, where neighbors are close enough to interact easily. While some campers might prefer more spacious sites, the cozy setup encourages a social atmosphere, which can be a significant advantage for those looking to make new friends and share experiences.
Adding to the charm of Flintlock Campground is the live music from local bands that perform throughout the season. This feature provides delightful entertainment and adds a festive feel to the evenings. It’s a wonderful way to unwind after a day of outdoor activities, and it brings the community together for shared enjoyment.
Overall, my week at Flintlock Campground was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The friendly staff, well-maintained facilities, beautiful natural setting, and strong sense of community all contributed to a memorable stay. I was so impressed with my time there that I have already booked another week for next year. I eagerly anticipate my return and look forward to creating more wonderful memories at this charming campground...
Read moreWhile the campground is still rebuilding there were many trailers and motorhomes the long weekend (4 nights) we stayed there, some permanent. The staff was wonderful and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome, giving us a site right next to my BIL & SIL in their tear drop trailer in a back-in site. (73 & 74) We had no trouble and plenty of length with the pull-through for our Class C with a toad, though the asphalt was a tad narrow, just wide enough for my tow dolly. Sites are a bit close, but to be expected for the terrain. Water pressure was fine but we didn't hook up our city connection, just filled our FWT. The sewer connection worked as needed for our single length Rhino hose and weighted sand bag on the elbow. Electric power was clean; no error codes on my EMS for the weekend. The bath house was clean and spacious. Visiting Boone and Blowing Rock was terrific and we did plenty of shopping , like Mast General, and wineries, such as Grandfather and Raffaldini (yep, that's a drive, but so worth it!) . We use our phones as hot spots, so wifi wasn't an issue for us. I initially thought the road in/out would be a problem when we left, considering it is angled and downhill, but I had plenty of visibility up and down 105 on exiting, with my dinette window shade up while looking back. I was traveling back through Boone. Our B&SIL also had no issues exiting the campground. I took 321 north out of Charlotte, via 85, to get the the CG, but won't do that again. 77 & 421 will be a bit easier on my V10 E450 Ford I think. We would...
Read moreMy wife, myself, and our two girls (7 & 5) wanted to spend a few days in the mountain. We didn't want to stay in a hotel...but didn't really want to stay in a tent, and this was the perfect in between. The campground has options for all types of lodging: RV's, tents, and small cabins. We rented one of the cabins and were very pleased. The cabin itself was one room that came with a full-sized bed, and a twin sized bunk bed. It had a desk & a nightstand, as well as a ceiling light and fan. While there isn't AC or heating, there are plenty of power outlets to plug in fans or portable heaters, whatever you need. It was 60-70 degrees out, so we slept with the windows open and it was perfect. It gave us the relaxing sounds of the creek that runs through the campground. The creek itself was our favorite part: beautiful, serene, and fun for the us & the kids to play in. The cabins don't have bathrooms, but there is a VERY well-maintained bathhouse with 3-4 stalls & 3 showers. I can't say enough about how impressed I was with the quality and cleanliness of the bathrooms. Honestly, they were cleaner than the bathrooms of the hospital i work at. Great water pressure and temperature on the showers. The staff at flintlock were amazing: kind, knowledgeable, down to earth, and very dedicated to accommodating whatever we needed. The campground is close to everything you need: 10 minutes from Walmart and all the major restaurants, 20-30 min to the main attractions (Grandfather & Sugar Mountains, Linville Falls & Caverns). We will...
