Pros: Friendly staff, beautiful places for pictures, camp sites are not as cramped as I have seen in other places. Bathrooms were in decent shape and actually seemed to be kept fairly clean. I actually felt comfortable showering here. Cons: NO outside firewood, which is maybe a little understandable, except for the fact that when we paid for 5 bundles, we got MAYBE 3 bundles worth of wood. (we paid for 4 bundles at another place and got wayyy more than what we got here) The firewood they gave to us was also treated with some sort of chemical to make it burn much faster than normal. The campsite we picked out was NOTHING like what was pictured on their website. It was very small and did not even have room enough for us to park our car (mind you we have a very small car). We paid for a site with both water AND electric, but when we got there, the electric at our site was not working. And no one thought to inform us of this, they acted as though they had no clue. We ended up having to have a drop cord connected to the site across from us and dragged to our site. The roads to get to the sites had potholes all through them...we had to be super careful to not tear up our car by going up the hill. The very steep fee ($30 per night) did NOT include free laundry. Laundry was priced at $3 per load ($1.50 for washing and $1.50 for drying). Lastly, when we first arrived, there were piles of trash in front of the bathrooms. Overall, we were not very pleased with the campground at all. I definitely do not feel as though we got our money's worth and I will probably not be going back there again, unless we bring in our own firewood from home. The amount of problems that this place had was outright ridiculous, and I do NOT recommend anyone to go here. I have attached pictures of most of the things I have mentioned.

Update: this year (2022)camping at Honeybear was way different than other years and not in a good way. I had no contact with an adult, their were kids running the whole place. The Bourbon, Bacon and Brews festival was terrible this year and the price went up and the food and other drink quality went wayyyyyy down. I went to check out and settle up the bill and the office is closed Mon thru Thursday and there is just a phone number to call. I called several times and waited over 40 minutes with no answer. I was ran so much better when Jay and his wife were running it. I was also told that next year they will only be open certain weeks and will be closed for the whole month of June. The road to the office is nothing but huge pot holes. I go camping here every year and absolutely love it. The campground hosts always make you feel welcome and always remember you when you come back. The coffee bar in the mornings is a huge bonus. I also love the bourbon, bacon and brews festival that the campground holds every year!

Drove from Huntsville, AL and stayed for 10 nights. Site B5 was great. Plenty of room for our 29’ camper and for chairs behind by the fire ring. Rated it at 3-3.5 stars because of upgrades needed. I know its a small campground but need to do some work on road potholes, bath house (went 1 time), and power. Site has exactly 30 amps so couldn’t run hot water and air/heat at the same time - was just an inconvenience. We enjoyed our stay and would come back. Site B5 didn’t have good photos so I’ve included some. Kinda close to sites on each side but no one was at either site the whole time so it was nice and private - was very peaceful in the campground most of the week. Walkway to stream behind site is nice as well. Like these photos? See more of my photos on Instagram: @end.of.a.lens

So disappointed. We were really looking forward to trying out Honey Bear to make it our yearly campground spot, but it was a huge disappointment. The place woods surrounding the campground is beautiful and it is located conveniently close to Boone, but the benefits stop there. If I could give customer service a 0, then I would. We paid for a full hookup sight and stayed for 5 nights. The hookups were sketchy to say the least, however we were looking to have a good time. Saturday rolls around and we wake up to no water. No phone call, text, stop by to let us know something was wrong. We overheard others saying their water was out, so we figured we would hear something about the water being out and an estimated time it would be repaired but we never heard anything. We had been filling our tanks rather than hooking directly to water, so we conserved the best we could, which was very difficult with a 6 month old baby with us. We had to do quick sink baths and ended up just leaving for the day because we didn't have other options. We came back around 6 in the evening and still no water or no information from the owners of the campground. The thing that frustrated us the most was the lack of communication. We attempted to call the office multiple times about it but no response. I finally emailed them and informed them that we hadn't had water all day (which they knew but never communicated) and that we paid for full hookups and would like a refund on the hookups for the day we were without water. In an hour we had an email back stating that they had shut the water off due to a water break and no refund would be offered. Had this been communicated we would have known to fill up our tanks or do something different, but no communication at all. Good customer service would have alerted their guests and likely offered something like a discount on the next stay or a little off of store purchase, but no these people do not care about their guests even enough to let them know what's going on. We should have known we would have issues when we called multiple times on the way here to talk to someone about our registration email going to spam and not sending it back in the required amount of time (which we had no clue we should have been on the lookout for the email because this was not clear either). We never talked to one person running the place the entire time we were there. Other campers complained to us about the lack of customer service as well, but they did have time to send a text about halloween events at the campground. Finally 12 hours after the water issue, we had water back and they finally sent out a text basically saying it still wasn't completely fixed and sorry. This was not sincere and it was much too late as well. We booked and arrived with hope for a great camping spot, but instead we got a run down campground that may have been nice two decades ago, a rikidy swing with mattresses taped to the tree beside it, collapsed bridges, run down buildings, and sketchy hookups. Looks like we will have to keep looking for our go to campground near Boone. Grandfather Mountain Campground has some...

This was our second time camping at Honey Bear campground in Boone. I'm going to speak mainly to this time but can start with the first visit. We had visited during the week, last time and unfortunately it rained a lot. When wood was being delivered to us, they asked if we wanted to stay in the RV (at no charge) since we were tent camping. It was not booked however the rain stopped right after this extremely generous offer. ||||This time we had desperately wanted to go camping but had not booked the ever popular Memorial Day weekend. I had called but all they could offer was a wait list spot. The weather had looked grim and someone had canceled and we are so glad that we were able to go and ended up being perfect weather the whole time.||||I grew up camping all over this area and this is by far Honey Bear is now our favorite family-friendly campground. We have five boys and we're able to give the oldest radios and a little bit of freedom. They loved riding their bikes together to the swings and to play kickball and more fun in the field. ||||The staff was super friendly. We truly loved the family feel of this campground. Movie night was ranked pretty high as the favorite of our children with bingo night the following night. ||||I love that they have hot showers and the bath house was super clean and no bugs. I'm used to camping and having to watch the spiders crawl on the wall but not here. All the details were thought about, I even noticed, USB charger in the bathroom beside the camping counters for your stuff. The bathroom was always well stocked and very clean. Especially for a camping bathroom.||||The coffee shop is a must in my opinion and they are very good about making most anything. ||||To top it all off, the little touches of having a scavenger hunt that was not just little kids, but three different levels with prizes made it one of the highlights for both me and the kids. ||||There is a creek that is a slice of Heaven running through many of the sites, it's perfect to put your feet in to cool off and just to sit by and read a book. The sound of the flowing Creek is perfect to nap by. ||||When camping your expectations truly need to be in the mindset of camping. Honey bear exceeds those expectations in all areas. Say enough about how amazing our weekend was. We can not wait...

Great place! Good location to the parkway and town. Our family of 3 stayed at the Honeybear campground the week of July 4th in an RV. We had an electric/ sewer/water site and everything worked well. Our site A-11 was at the end of a tightly packed stretch of RV sites. A lot of people seemed to be camping with friends and family so the close quarters worked well for them. We were glad to have the end site to have a little more feeling of privacy. I noticed that several of the other sites did have opportunities to angle their RV in ways that allowed them to create a private space between their RV and some woods or something. The campground was quiet most nights and it was lovely to sleep with the windows open. We really liked the family oriented feeling the campground. Lots of kids running about with friends having good summer fun on the double swing (our 6 year old’s favorite), fishing in the pond, exploring the creek, riding bikes, climbing trees and playing volleyball. The campground also provides family fun activities such as free rot beer floats, nature crafts, dance party, movie night on the lawn and things like that throughout the week. We would definitely stay again. The staff was very helpful and responded swiftly and efficiently to any needs or questions we had. Our only complaint was the tease of the coffee shop. It was never open when we went by. On Friday it had a sign that said, open Saturday 8-10am. We went by Saturday at 8:20 and the doors were locked. We did finally get a coffee Saturday afternoon but our drinks were too sweet for us. My husband asked for cream in his “shot in the dark” drink and they only had flavored creamers. Not a big deal- actually probably preferred for a lot of people. This is not a big deal but we did choose this campground over another and one reason was for the coffee shop so we were disappointed. We will still come back...
