Me and 2 adult children were there for 10 days paid for by church and salvation army due to homelessness. At first we were put in room 10 which is nonsmokers but on the second day the guy who cleans the rooms put us in room 8 which is smoking. We left for 2 days and we came back to room 10 for 9 days and then 4 days people paid for. On the 8th day the owner came down and screamed at us for smoking in room. He is literally screaming at me and my children saying this is a nonsmoking room and there should be a note on back of door. There wasn't because it was the smoking room. I tried to explain but he refused to let me talk to explain the situation and when I said that the cleaning guy put us in here because it's a smoking room he called me a liar. We were in a smoking room. Only after I posted to Facebook to talk to his son did he come back to the room and stated I put on facebook and I said I did because I wanted to tall to son. He said the guy cleaning had no authority to change the room. I said well he did and days after that I paid that guy for more days. The owner never apologized for his behavior/ screaming at me and my children. I know that most people that stay there are being helped by other organizations due to domestic violence or homelessness and the last thing they need is someone screaming at them. Especially when at neither time was I given any chance to explain. During that whole stay we took out trash, room wasn't cleaned other than the times I did' it myself and we had to ask for towels and toilet paper. It's too bad this place is the only place people with those situations...
Read moreTraveling southbound in early January 2019, heading back to Georgia after spending the two worst months of my life in Iowa, I found myself trying to get south of a snowstorm slated to impact Central Missouri January 11th. Well I didn't make it and I found myself searching for a hotel room for the night in Bowling Green. I was broke and need an affordable place to stay for the night, so I thought. Next morning I wake up it's still snowing heavily, there's more than a foot on the ground, roads are impassable and I have no choice but to either stay in my car and freeze or speak with the manager about my situation. He was kind enough to comp me the room for Saturday night. What a blessing. Sunday morning I wake and it's still snowing. My car is covered Roads still impassable but I had no where I could go. Went back to the manager and he kindly told me he couldn't do it again, but directed me to the Pike County Sheriff's Department where I could speak with a deputy about emergency funds set aside by some of the church organizations in Bowling Green. Well that worked out and covered me for Sunday night. So long story short, I spend three nights at the Vintage Inn, the warmest, coziest, nicest place I could have asked for on that snowy weekend. My best wishes go out to the manager (Mike?) and all others who went out of their way to help me. The accommodations were nothing fancy but the room is clean I had TV with the playoff football on for...
Read moreWe was lucky when driving on Hwy 61 from St. Louis back home to West Central Illinois. We got caught in an Ice Storm and the highway at Bowling Green had gotten shut down due to a Semi Tanker Truck jack-knifing and flipping over. We went to the what we thought was the only hotel in town, the Super 8. Luckily there was this little family run motel. Nothing spectacular but it was clean, and I do mean clean because they let us look at it first and we checked for bed bugs and everything. The place looks older but the inside of the room had been redone (paint, etc.) and the town has about everything you need in a pinch, a Walmart, restaurants, gas stations, etc. If you are looking for a 5 star place then this is not for you but if you want a nice clean Warm room in the middle of an Ice storm then this is a nice place to stay. We had no problems with the room, had cable TV, Microwave, mini fridge, bathroom with shower that all worked. Was not far from Walmart so I was able to get food and temporary supplies (toothbrush, grooming items, etc.) to get us through the night. Town even has a nice cafe, didn't get to eat there but it looked nice as...
