Truly a hidden gem for people to discover. The campground is impeccably kept, the grounds were spotless and well manicured and bathrooms some of the cleanest you will find camping and free showers as well. Lets start with the sites, most are open so if you desire to be deep in the woods and more secluded this may not be the place for you, but I will say with them being open sites mostly they are very spacious and the amount of grass in the sites is truly a joy, one of the few sites camping you can walk around barefoot and not track a bunch of sand and junk back into your camper! The campground has an ample amount of sites that all back up to the river and the collection of sites down towards the back of the campground have much more trees if you are seeking shade. The pool was more than large enough and crystal clear with plenty of pool chairs for all to enjoy. The river is the thing that makes the campground fun for all ages....bring your tubes or you can rent them cheap enough at the camp store, although a bit shallow when we visited I was able to tube with only having to get up a few times because it was too shallow but the kids almost never had to, not a super long ride but from one end of the campground to the other is just long enough to lazily cruise with a couple of small points where the current picks up to have some fun too! The river water was so clear you could see bottom even at the deepest points! There were only a few activities for the kids but the ones they do have are free, our kids made tie die t-shirts while there and to our amazement it was a free activity and they provided the shirts! Why you ask, because the seasonal campers and weekend campers put their bottle returns in a separate bin so the campground can make money to pay for the activities and provide it to the campers for free which in this day an age almost nothing is ever free so that was a real treat! The band they had Saturday night called club soda was very good and although we did not go dance we enjoyed the music by the fire while having smores with our kids but the turnout from the campground that did go fully enjoy the band was amazing to see! Thank you for an amazing weekend and we will surely be back again someday...
Read moreWe stayed here a couple mths. back on site 87. We got a little flooded from the rain run off. I felt more sorry for the wonderful people on 86 (I think they are "seasonals", they got very wet. The woman offered to help us move some stuff. She assured us, it wouldn't last long. She was right! It was crazy how the water came down. Luckily our fridge we have didn't get ruined. Sat afternoon we went up to visit some friends on Site 119 (can't remember for sure the site # though). We were all shocked by the language and loudness coming from a few campers down along the tree line. The same guy came around earlier trying to recruit horseshoe players. Just to paint the picture, I'm no prude but when someone starts yelling F* me in A, this f*ing washer can suck my balls. Then grabs themselves. While my children were playing near by. This went on from Friday night until LATE Sat night. We ended up going back to our site with our friends and children. The band was good and enjoyed the general niceness of everyone around. The kids got to enjoy a tractor ride. The river was extremely low, so you couldn't tube down it. The pool was nice but chilly. They said the pool was heated, but it didn't feel it. So over all because of the flooded site and the horrible people at the other end of the campgroud, I have to give this a 2. While the owners were very pleasant, they have to know what kind of partying goes on up at that site, and it can't be just a one weekend thing, they had lights and everything they set up. Shame on you for allowing that to continue... Other than those couple of things, we did like the place. Maybe we'll try...
Read moreAbel Mountain Campground is a beautiful location and has clean facilities. Driving through Vermont during early spring my husband and I decided to stop at this campground due to its high trip advisory rating and location. It is located centrally in Vermont to make it the perfect launching point for touring. We originally payed for two nights, then discovered how great the facilities and location were we stayed for an additional two nights. Pros Location is central. Waterbury 45min. Burlington 1 hour. Montpelier 30min. Woodstock 40min. The hosts are helpful with activities in the local area and are considerate of needs. In fact we were staying during Mother's day and they gave each woman a carnation. The campground has nice flat grassy camp spots, no camping on gravel. There is with each site a fire pit, picnic table, water, electric, cable, and some sites sewer. The campground has a playground, picnic pavilion, and communal fire pit. Friday night we were invited to the communal fire. They sale firewood and have a laundry house. The bathrooms are centrally located and well lit at night. These bathrooms were the cleanest for a campground I have seen. The shower stalls each had a changing area attached with plenty of hooks. Also plenty of hot water. Behind the office is a small bridge over the creek with a small amount of hiking trails that look perfect for kids to explore. Cons Cell phone coverage is minimal, but the idea of camping is to get away from technology. Overall...
