IF YOU'RE HESITATING, STOP. BOOK A CABIN. YOU WON'T REGRET IT. The cabins are stocked with everything you could need—extra paper products, kitchen equipment, a fridge, plenty of sunlight, and my personal favorite (as someone who’s always cold!): soft, cozy towels, blankets, and throws. The cabin was clean and comfortably furnished. The owners, Mark and Ester, are absolutely wonderful people who clearly care deeply about the property and go out of their way to keep guests happy. I discovered Ash Grove Cabins through an online forum while searching for affordable vacation spots for the summer. I’m a North Carolina native, but currently attend school out of state in a big city. My boyfriend and I were looking for an escape from our hectic routines, and with his birthday coming up, we wanted to celebrate somewhere special. I started my search knowing we wanted to stay in-state or within a day's drive—and Ash Grove Cabins turned out to be, hands down, the best choice and the most peaceful getaway. We stayed in the Woodspirit’s Retreat and loved it—there were fun little faces hidden throughout the cabin that we kept discovering. When we chatted with Mark, he gave us some tried-and-true restaurant recommendations covering just about every cuisine you could crave. We enjoyed walking around the town of Brevard, taking in the local art and stopping by some cute bakeries. We even stumbled upon a space-themed coffee shop tucked into the corner of a supermarket parking lot—it made a fantastic dirty matcha and had excellent service. Convenience stores and gas stations were nearby (gas was cheap, which was a bonus), and we also found a great local farm stand with incredible beef and raw honey. Be aware that most places in the area close by 9 PM—but that worked out perfectly for us, as it encouraged us to wind down and enjoy the cooler evening temps. We appreciated the coffee maker in the cabin, and we loved that guests are encouraged to leave any unused pantry items to help reduce waste. We left behind a new container of Folgers coffee for the next guests. The cabin was truly equipped with all the essentials. One day, we got a little lost trying to find our way to Penrose, but some friendly folks at a downtown Brevard coffee shop kindly pointed us in the right direction. Overall we had such a pleasant stay and wouldn't hesitate...
Read moreMarc and Esther truly care about their cabins, and camping. Everything is so clean and well maintained. These are truly a wonderful place to stay one night or 5 like we did.
First off we had Iris which is the farthest site away from the parking lot, when they say 200 yards they mean 200 yards, and don't forget downhill. So even though we were sweaty after unloading all of our stuff we were absolutely in love with the camp site. They level and mulch the entire site regularly and it shows.
The Bathhouse was very clean, and well maintained. They also have a nice area to wash your dishes. They also have trails that you can go adventuring on as I and my girls did and we had a blast not one piece of trash or garbage was to be seen anywhere.
The rules, were well enforced and well followed by all of the visitors while we were there and it was very nice, quiet time is from 2200 to 0800 and they mean it(which is awesome because the last thing I want to hear when I am camping is music or radio). They recycle and expect us to do so as well which was appreciated.
The bad: YOU ARE IN A RAINFOREST, I repeat YOU ARE IN A RAINFOREST. They get 70 inches of rain a year, we did not believe them, expecting it instead to be a sort of brag, it was not. It rained every night but one. So make sure you bring a Tarp for a lean-to over the picnic bench, and have someway to keep your chairs, and campfire dry until you need it, and make sure you know how to waterproof your tent or else you will...
Read moreMy husband and I camped with our 2 dogs recently. The check in was easy and they were both so very friendly and welcoming. We stayed at the tent site Iris. It was a beautiful spot. We did have a little trouble fitting our 10 x 14 tent into the area provided but we made it work, no big deal. I will say that the walk down to Iris was a little steeper than we realized but it was a nice work out and we didn't mind. We did really enjoy how private the site was. It was very quite and we could hear the water from the stream located below. The bath house was clean and warm.
The drive in to Brevard was short and beautiful. Great location for all the waterfalls that we were interested in seeing.
The only things I would change is I didn't care for the orange tape that lined the perimeter of our site, I understand why its there but it made us feel like we were staying somewhere that was under construction. Also, we bought our fire wood from the campground on our first night and we didn't realize the wood was damp so we had a really hard time getting a fire going and staying warm, so make sure your wood is dry when you guy it.
With that being said, we had a fantastic time, we would recommend this to our friends and we...
