Great place to camp, limited cell reception, but the entrance to the park has like 2 bars 4g with most carriers. The fishing experience is actually pretty good, I caught 3 different trout on the river before the barrage of tubers came, and it is perfect for fly fishing, FYI. Biking experience is nice, you can head out on many bike friendly trails or just breeze through the slight slope of the campgrounds. Plenty of food and supplies just outside of town, so your covered for that swimsuit you forgot! No hookups for regular campsites, so be prepared for generators and if a prolonged stay, a water trip for your camper. Our family made this a go-to for a number of years because this place is reliable, even in this covid-19! Stay safe and happy camping!

This was such a good time. The cleanest camp grounds I have ever visited. The staff was amazing and the sites are spacious. We were in the White Oak loop. We can't wait to return. The place is close to all types of fun and unique things to do we couldn't fit them all in. We will be returning! Also, if you attend church there is a historic church a short hike away that welcomes campers! Super cool! We also got to see our first bear there. The staff handled it like pros with a response of bear horns and spray. Each loop has a host who is trained for situations like that. Just another reminder to keep a clean site and keep your food in coolers in your truck or car when not using them or sleeping. We can't wait to return!

Awesome campground, lots of sites but only 30 with electric. Makes reservations difficult but such is the case with most federal campgrounds. Have stayed 4-5 times and having the river and a running trail right out your door is awesome. Walking down to town is a couple miles, nice walk with dog. Quite. Have not looked at restrooms/showers but my wife said their fine. Very quiet place with little cell reception if any but not their fault. About 20min over to Dupont so not bad, lots of trails around, maybe 15min up to Pisgah Inn.

Our camping experiences at Davidson River date back for over thirty years and have all been remarkable......except for our most recent overnight stay on October 20th, 2019. We were harassed about vacating our camp site 20 minutes PRIOR to the actual check-out time, although we had been approved for a 1 to 2 hour late check-out on that very morning. ||||We had reserved two nights for Saturday and Sunday (October 19th and 20th) but wound up only staying on the 20th because of rain on the 19th. Due to the fact we missed out on one night's stay and we wanted a little longer to enjoy our time there, I made a phone call to the front gate around 10 o'clock in the morning on the 21st - our check-out day - inquiring about check-out time and asking if there was anyway to have a late check-out. The lady that answered the phone told me that 12 noon was the actual check-out time but that she would ask the manager, who was there with her, about a late check-out. She returned to the phone and asked me how much longer I wanted to stay. I replied that an extra hour or hour and a half would be nice. I was told that would be fine but that if we stayed past 2 pm we would be charged for an extra day. ||||Then, at 11:40 am, a lady and gentleman arrived to our camping site on a golf cart saying that check out time was in 20 minutes. (One of the hosts at the campground later told me that this lady's name was Rebecca and she was an assistant manager, but I cannot confirm this.) I replied to the lady on the golf cart that I had just talked to someone at the front gate earlier that morning and had been told we could have a late check out. The lady stated that she was the one I had spoken with earlier but that she thought I had "extenuating circumstances" - which I had NEVER stated and she never asked! The lady went on to say that we had 20 minutes to clear the camp site, while gesturing multiple times with her hands waving about toward our tent, which was still set up. I told her that as soon as my husband returned from the restroom we would begin to vacate our site.||||We checked out at 1:10 pm, within the time frame that was initially approved that morning. We did not see anyone waiting at the gate for check-in at that time. This was on a Monday and the campground was overflowing with vacant campsites.||||If we had been told that a late check-out was not possible, we would never have had this issue and we would have checked out promptly by 12 noon. However, to have been approved for a late check-out, then to be approached 20 minutes PRIOR to the normal check-out time, and in the manner the lady talked to me (rude), is disappointing and unacceptable...

I grew up going to this campground many years and have tried going twice as an adult. The campground itself is really in a great location and very cool. The problems with it are it's become too well known and has lost much of it's appeal for me now. The prices are crazy now and you have to book months in advance to even have a chance of getting a spot, and I'm talking just tent camping. I was charged $64/night for a double tent spot I booked 3 months in advance and even that early most of the days were booked. I didn't even need the second tent area but that was the only one left available so I had to pay the double price. Still $30/night is quite expensive for a spot of dirt to put a tent on. There is very little privacy because every spot is booked and many families come with kids they let scream/yell and ride back and forth on bicycles in front of your spot. I completely understand to expect kids and all that, but it just really takes away any sense of privacy here. Not to mention the adults that come get hammered and can be extremely loud. Again I don't expect total silence or privacy, but it's gotten out of control since I was a kid. One of the biggest issues I have with this place is the firewood. They don't allow any outside wood and you're not allowed to cut any yourself, so they force you to buy their wood bundles. I understand their reasoning, but they charge INSANE amounts for the wood. They charged us $9 for each bundle, and there's only about 4 pieces of already split wood in each bundle that are about 1 foot long. I split the wood even further into smaller pieces to try and extend the use, but expect to spend $20/night on wood if you want a fire that lasts even from sundown to 10pm. That's just wrong and they know you have no other choice if you want a fire, which is always part of the fun with camping. This place was fantastic, but now it's just a spot tourists book up all year and with these ridiculous prices, I'll just go somewhere else. Very sad because of how much I loved going here growing up. If you don't mind the price mark-ups, no privacy, loud neighbors and can book WAYYY in advance, you'll probably...
