June 1st 2024 We were so thrilled to join our son Michael and his Beautiful Bride at this gorgeous location for their Wedding. Michael and Elisabeth discovered Deerwode Reserve about 3 years ago, and have returned many times with their dogs. They were engaged here last May and spoke with Scott and Dionne about having their wedding here in the new Venue that was under construction at the time. There could not have been a more perfect location for this special day. We were lucky enough to be joined by friends from near and as far away as Norway, and by family from near and far, 12 family members coming from Australia. We had 65 guests staying on the property, and many more joining us on Saturday for the wedding. This was an amazing 4 day event. Rehearsal dinner Friday night in the covered outdoor space was perfect for 70 guests. A great time was had by all. The Wedding on Saturday was held outside by the lake, what a beautiful location. We were so excited for Michael and Elisabeth to be the first wedding in the fabulous new Venue that Scott and Dionne have created. Every attention to detail has gone into this beautiful Venue. The bridal suite is elegant, a relaxing place for the bridal party to get ready for the special day. The indoor reception area is spacious and beautiful, and when the large doors are opened it brings a whole new dimension to your wonderful evening. With fire pits, outdoor seating, & fairy lighting, it was just magical. Our guests enjoyed this area and making smores. There is also a state of the art commercial kitchen attached to the event Venue. Sunday completed our big weekend with a Sunday Brunch set up in the covered area. We cannot thank Scott and Dianne enough for all they have done to make this such a special weekend for our family. They worked tirelessly setting up tables and chairs. Beautiful chairs down by the lake for the ceremony, and looking after our every need. They have truly created a special piece of paradise in Deerwoode Reserve. The beautiful setting of 175 acres for all our guests to relax and enjoy, beautiful gardens, lakes for fishing and kayaking, hammocks for relaxing, and hiking or strolling through the bamboo forest. The accommodations are perfect, very clean, and lovely. They have every thing you could possibly need for your stay. We could not recommend this Venue highly enough. Everything was perfect. It is now our go to family get away spot, and we feel like Scott and Dionne are now a part...
Read more“Serenity” 5 of 5 starsReviewed June 14, 2012 My wife and I recently stayed the weekend in Deerwoode and I loved it so much I felt like I had to tear myself away when we left. We got a room in the lodge - "The Deer Room" - which like the rest of the buildings are adorned with original paintings of the owner's wife. Our room was very rustic with heart pine floors, panels, and ceilings, clean as a whistle, and well appointed with the necessities, but by no means the luxuries. You wake up in the morning to the sounds of nature in the cool crisp morning air and you can hike, fish, canoe, and generally relax like no place else in a sumptous 175 acre wildlife preserve. The lakes are teaming with fish almost like fishing in a barrel, and my wife and I hiked around the entire property which borders a long stretch of the French Broad River and included a dense bamboo forest as well as ascending to the summit of Sugerloaf Mountain. Trust me, we had no trouble sleeping that night!
I should also mention that amazingly you can be right downtown in Brevard, NC, a charming and quaint mountain town in five minutes from Deerwoode. We had a lot of fun with the local shopping and locally owned restaurants. I have to mention that at age 56 I have eaten many hamburgers in my time, but the New Orleans Burger at Jordan St Cafe beat them all. It was a purely delightful slobberfest which I had to mash down with my hand in order to be able to fit part of it in my mouth. I had to "assume the position" as instructed by Guy Fieri with both hands on the burger by necessity and with elbows out and pointed up to keep the juice from running down my arms.
I promise I will redo that weekend many more times in the future. The owner, Bill, is a friendly and engaging host and makes sure you are comfortable and satisfied with your stay. He has run this facility with love and care for 46 years and even planted an estimated 30,000 trees. It is inconceivable to me how they maintain Deerwoode in the amazing condition it is in but the whole place is easily accessible and they maintain overlooks on the river and on all the ponds.
For total decompression combined with shopping and dining in a peaceful friendly village, you can't beat Deerwoode.

Read moreOur group of 10 stayed at Deerwoode Resort for a mini-reunion of friends from High School on May 25 - 27. Manager Matt Mayes worked with me via phone and we took the main lodge - Coyote Lodge - for 4 of our needed 5 rooms and the cabin right next door to the lodge for the 5th accommodation. Coyote Lodge has a huge open area downstairs with a beautiful working fireplace with rocking chairs surrounding it, plenty of tables for dining, a kitchen and the 4 individual rooms with individual baths for each - two upstairs and two downstairs. There is also a front porch with plenty of seating. The Mayes family could not have been more accommodating ~ they are multi-talented, love their resort and pride of ownership is apparent. Matt greeted all and made us all feel so welcome - in addition he made fires for us in the huge fireplace downstairs in the lodge.
Matt and his brother, Andy, play music and sing in a kind of spontaneous jamming often on weekends. Our stay was on Memorial Day weekend, so they played on Saturday night outside the huge gym and game room building (another benefit which we used) and some of their friends were invited. Matt invited one member of our group to bring his guitar and he joined in with them. Deerwoode is such a serene rustic beautiful resort on 175 acres on which the family continues to reside. Matt's Dad and Mom built the lodge and many touches of art are in the cabins by Matt's Mom. The resort is a true gem in the North Carolina mountains. All in our group were very happy with our accommodations and we would definitely stay here again - equal to the lodging is Matt's professional, warm outstanding service. What a terrific place for our small group of good friends to reunite! Room Tip: If your group includes eight people, the Coyote Lodge can be taken for...
