I’ll start off by saying that I’ve gone camping mostly in NH since I like to hike in the White Mountains. I prefer to stay in “mom & pop” type of places because of the hospitality and because I like to support small, private businesses. This is was my first time in VT and wanted to stay somewhere more secluded for my kids to enjoy the peacefulness of nature and the Green Mountain Campsite seemed perfect... well it wasn’t the experience I had hoped. When I first arrived, I stopped by the front desk where I was greeted ( if that’s what you can call that) by a guy. My friend had already arrived and he simply gave me a map and sent me on my way. Not friendly at all and dismissive to the questions I had about the campgrounds stating he had talked to her even though we had rented two sites. ||The place, overall, is okay... nothing special. No WiFi available, except in certain hot spots. The bath area was clean and it was nice that there were two pools, but the play yard area was small and very raggedy. ||The WORST of my experience and the reason why I decided to leave a day early, was due to my distasteful encounter with a Joanne (who is the owner). I had just finished coming out of the showers when this lady stormed at me to tell me that my son had forgotten to flush and that it takes 3 seconds of holding down the lever for it to flush properly. Okay. I completely understood and apologized and went to speak to my son. As I walk around the corner, she comes at me, again, screaming that there was urine and that HE HAD to clean it and pointing at him on front of everyone. Okay. I tried to be more understanding but asked her how she knew that since there were others in that area. Nonetheless, I apologized again and said I would have him clean it. As I turn around, I hear her mumbling all upset. At that point, I had enough and told her how distasteful, rude she was, and how uncalled her behavior was towards a guest. I have never had such upsetting encounter like this before and would not recommend this place simply because of this encounter.||Update: the owner came to our camp site in the middle of night completely intoxicated, screaming, demanding we leave his site because he was upset over the review (was leaving in the AM). Kids were crying and terrified... worst experience to date! If you have a family and children just be warned that this man is...
Read moreA lovely, beautifully located, spick and span campground owned and run by two wonderful human beings (the owners) is how I would sum up our experience at this campground. We had the tenting experience here and I have to say - it’s Tenter’s paradise. Tucked under the thick layer of woods, carefully carved out sites with ample open space and a lot of activities for kids - to me it makes quite effortless and easy to choose this place again for our next camping trip - especially when you have kids in your party. Gary and Joanne - The Owners, take it personally and go an extra mile to make sure there is no people-over-people scenario , you get what you want - while they take care of your last minute requests. Both the owners are very simple, sweet, helping and ones who will make sure that the campground rules are followed strictly. Its the discipline and rule following too of theirs , that makes this place a great one for family camping. Overall, a superlative experience here with some indelible memories. Thank you Green Mountain Family CampGround team for offering us the richness of the camping experience and leaving us with the sweet taste. May God Bless you and you grow in...
Read moreWe found this campground to be a nice "home base" from which to do several days of exploring in the Green Mountains region. The campground felt safe and was quiet during our stay. There seemed to be a healthy percentage of permanent or long-term residents, and everyone met the description of "good campers". ||||The owners, in their first two years of ownership of the campground, are obviously working hard to make some refurbishments. They're not the type to tolerate disrespectful or destructive campers, which is a big plus in our eyes when we're researching potential stopover locations. ||||The town of Bristol, just down the road, is just beautiful and has basic supplies, galleries, crafts, etc. Middlebury is also close by and made for a lovely afternoon of shopping and sightseeing. We also did day trips from this campground up into Shelburne/Burlington and Stowe/Smuggler's Notch...for a unique and fun trip, consider taking the picturesque and winding Route 17 to the northeast across the state. ||||We'd definitely stay here again. It's a great spot for a traditional, low-frill camping experience, and our children and us enjoyed...
