My family has gone to Shrine Mont several times with our church. We always have a fun, special time. Although just outside of NOVA/DC area, you feel like you are very far away. The main house has Wifi now, but other than that, there are no T.V.s, and no cellphone reception, which is great. My main suggestion to the management would be to upgrade the lower level restrooms in the main house. ||The rooms for guests are really basic, and we always end up putting the mattress on the floor and then never sleep great, but it is fun all the same. (The double beds seem really small- next time, we will all get twin beds). Everything is very historic. The food is comfort food, and it is delicious! I am not sure what is included if you do not go as a big group, but if you have food as an option, go for it! The staff is always kind and helpful. ||--I would not want to go there if the weather was miserable, but if the weather is good, it is just wonderful there. Hiking trails, a beautiful shrine, a pond, beautiful trees, a bonfire (if your group schedules for it), rocking chairs on the porches, peace and relaxation... Bring a book to read. There are also a lot of things you can see/do for short day trips. We drove to JMU for a visit, took the kids to Bryce Resort for ziplining, many others played golf nearby or went antiquing and to the Route 66 Potato Chip Factory. ||Just a wonderful place to relax. I can't wait to go...

Read moreShrine Mont is a unique place to stay -- not a typical hotel or resort, but a true rustic getaway. And it's perfect for travel during the pandemic. We had to visit family this summer which required a cross-country drive. We felt very safe staying at Shrine Mont. Both the hotel and the cabins have minimal shared airspace with other guests -- and since most of the rooms aren't air-conditioned, the outside breeze coming in at night was perfect. We got our honestlye meals to go and ate outside on a covered porch. The swimming pool was perfect, and this fall the hiking will be A+. This is the kind of place where traffic is minimal and you can let your kiddos roam. Your view of the stars will...
