Very well maintained recreation area. Nice campground on the east side of the creek with tent sites and electrical sites. There are a couple of original log cabins there. Guest cabins and the office are on the west side of the creek. Cabins are very clean but dated. There's a screened-in porch on each cabin overlooking the lake. Bring a chair, nothing comfortable there. Beds are okay. Kitchen has most everything: coffee maker, toaster, microwave, small electric stove, full size fridge and most needed kitchenware. Nice playground that you can get to from the campground by crossing a footbridge over the creek. The lake is a scum pond, smelly green and stagnant. It is scheduled for renovation. It sort of spoils the atmosphere. You'll see many herons, hawks and owls. The stars are mind blowing at night. Each of the 2 cabins have a fire ring and picnic table. A parking space is right next to the cabin. There is no fire wood to buy, but there is a giant brush pile from which you can scavenge for wood. They'll lend you a hand saw at the office. The park is is about 20-25 minutes from Broken Bow, where you can get most anything. Limited items and fuel are available at Merna, about 15 minutes south. There is an unattended gas station at Anselmo,7 miles to the west. The road between the area and Merna on Victoria Springs Road is beautiful. Calamus Reservoir is about 45 min to the northeast. It is worth the trip. I plan to camp there soon. The Nebraska National Forest is also about 45 minutes to the Northwest. The park, forest and reservoir all require a state park permit. Cell service is sketchy. Verizon service is 1X at best. Sometimes one bar of 3G. But this isn't the place to be if you want connected to the office. If you use Google Maps to navigate, you'd better download a section of the map ahead of time while you still have 4G in Burwell or Broken Bow. And if you're from the city, be polite and wave at others (simple raise of a couple of fingers off the top of the...
Read moreWe arrived on Tuesday afternoon to find a beautiful, shady, green, tree filled campground. The lawns were recently mowed and not a speck of trash anywhere. The electric sites are very spacious and lovely. We were the only RVers when we arrived. Very quiet except for the farm trucks going by on Victoria Springs Road and 21A. God Bless those farmers! We waved at many as we enjoyed our shady lawn. We will explore the historic log cabin and 1876 schoolhouse one day and stroll over to the pond. The pond is pretty green with a duckwerk infestation but that's fine. We don't plan to wade in it. We may take out a paddle boat one evening. If you are looking for a quaint, Sweet little park... this is it! Our only criticism is that the shower push button must be held in to keep water flowing. It shuts off immediately when released. That makes showering a trick 😂 Don't let that stop you from enjoying this nice little oasis in Nebraska Sandhills. Check out quirky little Taylor and it's "Villagers" while you are near and The Sandhills Scenic Byway Center in...
Read moreI would love nothing more than to give this place more stars however there was not much to see. We did not see any "Springs" we saw a nice little Creek and a little Lake but those were completely covered in algae. I don't know if there were any fish because of the amount of algae that was on the surface of the water and despite trying for over an hour we did not have any bites, even when trying different bait and lures. Offices were closed (closed Wednesday and Thursday) so we could not rent a paddle boat (which you cannot take very far because they have it blocked off into a little lake instead of going down the stream). The only highlights to our trip out there were getting to see the original log cabins and old school house but unfortunately you can't see into the old school house very well because they have steel mash over the windows which I understand is for security but you can't go in the school so it would at least be nice to see into it. I would love to see this place improve...
