We were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary and my wife had just went through a major surgery and had been cooped up in the house for awhile.|I wanted something quiet, relaxing but comfortable for her.|Postcard Cabins Homochitto hit all those points.|The “cabin(s), are placed in a rural area, each spot nestled in between piney woods separating each cabin giving a nice private feel. |The outdoor space is big enough to have room to move around but small enough to create cozy sitting space.|We enjoyed the fire pit but wrestled with the wood (wet) provided, you might be better off purchasing some from the local stores, we saw some outside a station in Meadville which is less than ten minutes away.|First look at the unit from the outside is not impressive at all, but once you walk inside, that prospective changes.|The finish is comforting and the layout simple. The queen size bed was very comfortable and easily accessible due to steps they have built next to the bed.|We went in the middle of August and we were a bit concerned if it would be cool enough inside, it didn’t take long to see/feel we had nothing to worry about. The cabin stayed a comfortable temperature even at the peek heat during the day.|The bathroom facilities are what you would expect from a tiny cabin, but still had plenty of room in the shower although, there is no sink in the bathroom. You have to wash you hands or morning prep in the kitchen sink.|The kitchen area is small but big enough for two persons to fix a meal.|They have a pot & frying pan along with a few cooking utensils. Eatery for four, plates, bowls, cups etc.|They do not have a microwave or oven so you may have to be creative when planning (we packed a toaster oven).|Also no coffee pot but they do have a kettle with coffee & tea packets with sugar & creamer available if would like to try that. The mini fridge has its limits so an ice chest is recommended.|Overall the visit was what I wanted, quiet & peaceful but still...
Read moreWas so excited for this trip. For starters, we booked with a code through the website for a discount … found out after we booked that we paid twice as much as it was listed on Airbnb. The cabin is in a very poor town with a lot of garbage on the drive and very limited stores. Not an enjoyable ride to get there, quite a bummer to be honest. Felt weird to turn into this faux luxury glamping compound after driving past hundred broken cars and air conditioners in the front lawns down the street.
We were in the last cabin and you could still hear cars, there’s a public road visible from the cabin which was also unexpected. The concept is cool But it’s absolutely not remote, you see all the other cabins and cars very easily. There was even someone else’s house a stones throw from the cabins. Unfortunately it was a bit rainy, the trails were super muddy and any wooden foot brushes were broken. Obviously can’t control The weather but the trails were definitely not well kept or even an update like don’t walk the trails because they’re like an impassable muddy swamp would have been nice.
We appreciated that the fire pit was covered so we could sneak in a fire but there are no grill tools provided. Bizarre if you’re spending 250$ + that there’s not a way to cook on the grill. There’s also no freezer which we didn’t realize after we got some ice cream for the mini fridge. The worst thing is the BEDS. We could not sleep, it was so loud every time you moved and so uncomfortable. Woke up feeling like someone beat us up. It was so uncomfortable we drove back to New Orleans at 5 am!!
Yes The window into the trees is cool, but this was not worth it At all. I was super disappointed and had hoped for a relaxing trip that left us tired and feeling beat up. Wish it was different. Save your money and find a more authentic escape from city. I’ve been camping in a tent on the ground and slept better...
Read moreInteresting "glamping"/glamorous trailer park experience with very little noteworthy. This is basically a trailer park with campfires.
I stayed here with my family for 2 nights.
This is located in small town in Mississippi with a population of 591 people. There's not much in this town. There's the Ohkissa Lake and the Homochitto River. The lake is in a drought right now, so it's way low. There's not much activity to be had there, although the park is very beautiful. The river doesn't have many access points. I took my SUV offroading through the bush and found a spot on the river. Not much to see there.
The Getaway property itself... There aren't "breathtaking" views of the Homochitto river. You have to hike down a trail for about 25 minutes to get to a lookout point with 2 benches. You can see a little bit of the river, but you can get down too close as the bank is quite high.
This place is a glorified trailer park. The cabins themselves are very small mini homes. The floors are disgusting given the materials they chose, it's hard to clean. If you walk around with socks, they'll turn black. There are lots of giant spiders in the cabin as well. The top bunk is really short, so only kids 5-8 can really sleep up there.
There isn't anything really interesting about the property or the town it's located in. If you're looking to relax out in the woods, maybe. It's very close to the highway, so you'll hear the passing traffic.
This property was basically several acres of woods located between the highway and a part of the river. Someone thought to buy it and set it up like a trailer park with the utility hook ups. Instead of trailers, they set up mini homes with campfires and voila.
I can't recommend...
