On Friday, July 18, I drove from NYC to Starlight, PA to attend visiting day at Camp Starlight on July 19. I was with my son, Jacob and we pulled up to the Starlight Inn, where i had reserved our room. I was shocked to see rubble where the Starlight Inn had previously stood. I drove over to Camp Starlight to drop my bags for the following day in the office. While there, I asked Kelly, the office manager, about the Starlight Inn and she told me that the establishment had burned in February, Knowing that I needed to be within walking distance of camp, she suggested Brookside Guest House. She knew that the Starlight Lodge was already fully booked. ||||As someone who observes Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath), I am prohibited from driving on Shabbat; burning is one of the categories of work that is forbidden on Shabbat. An automobile engine works by burning gasoline. Turning on the ignition and stepping on the accelerator causes it to burn. It is therefore forbidden to drive a car on the Sabbath.||||Knowing that I needed to find a place before Shabbat began (sundown on Friday), and that I needed to be within walking distance in order to get to visiting day and see my youngest son, I drove over to Brookside B&B Guest House. Unfortunately, the person who answered the door shared that they are no longer renting rooms; I even offered to pay for extra nights as I felt desperate, but the answer was a firm no. ||||In a slightly panicked mode, I reached out to Starlight Lodge. Andrea was very kind and offered to try and find a place for me. Unfortunately, there was no place within walking distance. As Andrea was already completely booked, I asked if we could use the restroom and then park in her grass parking area and sleep in our car. While not ideal, I felt that it was the only solution. Sadly, I explained to Jacob that i had to make the agreement to sleep in the car, but we had a restroom and a safe place to park our car. ||||As I pulled in, I was filled with slight trepidation, but thankful that we would at least be in a safe place for the night. Andrea came out to meet us, and with tears in her eyes, told me that she had spoken with all of the guests and decided to make an exception, she would allow us to stay inside. I began to cry as I felt such a sense of gratitude. One of my patients often tells me that there are people who are put into your life who act as your angels. That could not be more true; Andrea and Bill are my angels. They allowed us to join for Shabbat dinner, set up cots in their fitness center so we would have a comfortable place to sleep, and even invited us to join in their incredible breakfast. This allowed us to have an amazing visiting day at camp. Then, they made up a room for us after Shabbat so that we were able to stay on Saturday night, which allowed me to drive in the daylight. ||||I cannot express how amazing Andrea and Bill are. They are truly angels who went so far above and beyond in order for my son and I to be able to both observe the Sabbath and enjoy visiting day. You will never find a more perfect...
Read moreJerry & David have created something truly special with the Starlight Lodge. Our two night stay was such a pleasant experience and exceeded our expectations.
As other reviews have mentioned, this will be the cleanest place you will ever stay. I honestly don't understand how they get the rooms so clean. They even surpass the cleanliness of my grandmother, who I always presumed had supernatural powers.
The lodge itself is gorgeous, with wall to wall wood and many nooks and crannies for you to relax in. On the 1st floor there are several comfortable chairs and scores of books to choose from if you didn't bring your own. The second floor has the kitchen, which was AMAZING. Fresh farm eggs, locally grown tomatoes, etc were all of the highest quality and presented perfectly. It's where we first met Jerry and David and you couldn't ask for two nicer hosts.
There is a long balcony on the 2nd floor with plenty of seating to enjoy the view. There's even a little basket of blankets to use if you get chilly. It's those kinds of little touches that make the Starlight Lodge such a great experience.
Never made it to the third floor.
My one nitpick complaint is that the bathroom in my room could use a 2nd shelf for toiletries.
It's about 20 minutes from Frenchwoods, which is the reason we came. There may be places closer, but definitely not better. Loved our visit and are already planning on going...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about the Starlight Lodge. We had been camping on what turned out to be a very cold and rainy weekend - and found a room at Starlight last minute. From the second we walked in, we felt at home and everyone went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and that we had everything we needed.
One example of many: When Andrea heard that we were getting cold while sitting on the front porch and were thinking about making a fire, she went out on her own and started building a fire for us in the fire pit! We didn’t even ask. She is just that considerate!
The house is BEAUTIFUL, the view from the front porch is absolutely stunning and the hot tub in the woods is heaven on earth.
Oh and the breakfast! And the homemade muffins and breads!
We only stayed one night but me and my friends can’t stop talking about what a wonderful, heartwarming experience we had. We will definitely plan future trips around making sure we can drop into starlight lodge again for a relaxing, fulfilling stay.
Thank you, again, for...
