My wife and I recently stayed here in cabin #18. The front of house is stellar but the housing and camp grounds lacks.

My wife and I was passing through town on a road trip and decided to stay here. The two ladies who checked us in are very nice and wonderful ladies, they called us a few hours prior to make sure we would make it for the 4pm check-in time. I gave them our updated arrival time and they were eagerly waiting for our arrival.

Upon entering the camp grounds you notice it's a little run down, and the roads are very rough. The A/C was blowing dirt over the beds, the ceiling was bowing down in spots, and the futon/couch had next to no padding on it. There is no maid service, which was fine for us as it was just the night.

I gave the rooms a 1/5 due to the decrepit nature of the cabins.

3/5 on the service solely due to the ladies behind the desk. Y'all are rockstars.

2/5 on the location, it is in the middle of no where but it is located right next to Spider Mountain. If you want to mountain bike then the location does not get better than this. Outside of that there is not much, we went and did the longhorn cavern tour, and I do recommend that. It is 68 degrees year round and it is a very easy cave to explore.

Side note: There is no cellphone coverage in this area so plan accordingly, download maps for offline use or whatever you need to do. The lodge does offer WiFi however.

Overall 2/5, this camp has AMAZING potential, just needs some reinvesting and a little TLC on the...

We are just broken hearted and disappointed. I’m scared to ever try and go here again.

We saved up, and planned for months to bring my sweet boy out to ride mountain bikes for his birthday. He has been so excited he could hardly sleep! The lodge called the day before while we were just starting our 4 hour journey down. They could have saved us many tears, and the completely crushing sadness and frustration we feel now, but instead they compose to not simply mention the bike park was going to be closed. That it was pointless for us to come. It was supposed to be open, but the lifts broke, which we understand is out of their control, however, when they were on the phone, it could have been mentioned, that the park they lodge for isn’t open! Instead we spent 8 hours in a car, for absolutely no reason. My son’s birthday is completely ruined, he’s sat around wearing his new bike helmet all day, silently trying to be strong and grateful for the effort, there’s nothing I can do to fix this. My mama heart is screaming seeing the disappointment and failure. We took work off, took them out of school, and all could have been avoided, had they simply mentioned it while they were on the phone with me the day before. The website didn’t mention it till the next day. You hurt my baby. We’ve spent the entire day in tears. Further, the lake is completely dried out, no lake activities, no bike activities, no one around, it was the absolutely worst experience that has left us completely...

My soon to be and I started our adventure at 4am. We drove five and a half hours to check out several venues to have our humble wedding. We visited three possible locales, one of which was the Thunderbird Resort.

It almost seemed like fate, our wedding ceremony was set and just a short drive away we would spend the first weekend as Mr. And Mrs. on Lake Buchanan. We arrived punctually for our meeting with the owner who happened to be running behind, nevertheless, we explored the event center and the very cabin we would be renting. My lady fell in love with the place, "we found it," she whispered.

We departed from Burnett feeling excited for the big day, and waiting anxiously for John, the owner, to phone us with his quote. But there wasn't a quote... You see, John has a particular client that just so happened to book the exact same cabin and event center that we were asking for the previous year. He told us, "let me give them a call and see if they want to book it first." So John decided to give first dibs to the resort to someone who wasn't actively seeking it.

We didn't get it.

John called us back to give us the unsettling news that we were dreading... His other client booked it. A client who has booked only once with the resort.

Thank you John, thank you for the tears on my shoulder as I write this scathing review of your lack of ethics. Here's some advice, chasing the money is your own prerogative, but I will sit and write on every review of your resort, what a...

Thunderbird resort is a top notch operation, at a nearly absurd value. The cottage I stayed in was clean, well appointed and conveniently located to one of the hottest new attractions in Texas, the Spider Mountain Bike Park. The two bedroom, two bathroom cottage I reserved was located next to a volleyball court and had a porch, was close to the lake, had plenty of windows and had utinsels, plates and anything else you might need to literally live here! These cottages are a Bike-in, Bike-Out out destination, as the two most gnarly trails (so far) Stinger and Sticky Icky dump out right in front of ThunderBird Lodge. Pro tip: having a cottage to hang at is a game changer while mountain biking. Now if your family wants to take a break, eat or watch TV they can and you can get back to shredding. Even if you don't plan to stay and just use it to go to the bathroom and eat, it's worth it. Also, since Spider Mountain is fairly remote another pro tip is that the lodge office has a selection of drinks, snacks and gear, so before you scout out the surrounding area, check out their office. The only real downside that I can think of is that the water smells very strongly. So be warned. I would HIGHLY recommend bringing your own drinking water unless you like strong smells, and if that is the case, you're all set!👌 In conclusion, my entire experience with Thunderbird has been amazing and I can't wait to come back.
