My wife and I were traveling from northern Idaho where we live, to Nevada and California to visit friends and family. We needed an overnight place to stay and came across the Sportsman Lodge. What a find! We stayed in one of the free standing cabins and it was absolutely perfect. Clean, quiet, quaint with a kitchen, bathroom and separate bedroom. An inviting porch to sit out and enjoy the peace, quiet and amazing views. The owners Ken and Bonnie make you feel as though you are family and are at the ready to help in any way necessary. There is also a restaurant (The Hitching Post) about 100 yards from the cabin that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner along with a full bar and a few slot machines. I believe the restaurant is also owned by the Sportsman Lodge. This convenience added to our stay. This place is an angler and hunters dream. Nice rooms, plenty of RV parking, and even tent camping areas. There is a nice fire pit with numerous chairs around it to sit and enjoy the evening. The archery range is a nice touch as well. The only issue we had was in the morning when we woke up and realized we had to leave and would not be able to enjoy another day at the Sportsman Lodge. And BTW, the check in and check out was easy, and quick. A pass code is texted to you along with your room number and you use the code to enter your room. Check out is as simple. Our stay could not have been nicer and we look forward to a return trip on our way back home. Our thanks to Bonnie and Ken.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
On our way back home to Idaho, my wife and I once again did an overnight at the Sportsman Lodge. It was even better than our original visit...if that was possible. The owners, Bonnie and Ken could not be any nicer or accommodating. We reserved one of the free standing cabins and as in the past it was comfortable, and had everything necessary to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the surroundings. We ate at the Hitching Post Saloon and the food and service was outstanding, And meeting some of the local folk was an added pleasure. During our original stay back in October Bonnie asked how we liked our stay and of course we both said we loved it and would be back. I remember telling Bonnie about an extremely minor issue in our cabin. She took note and said it would be fixed ASAP. I forgot about this until we checked in last week. Upon entering the cabin I instantly noticed the minor issue was fixed. That may not mean much to some but it showed us a lot. The care and effort that Bonnie and Ken put in this business is noticed and appreciated. Do yourselves a favor on your way through this part of Montana. Don't waste your time looking for a place to stay. Call the Sportsman Lodge for a unique and memorable stay. You will be glad you did.
Another UPDATE And another great stopover at the Sportsman.Lodge. My wife and I cannot speak highly enough about this place and the owners Bonnie and Ken. Our cabin was clean and ready for our arrival and the Hitching Post is the go to place to eat which is also part of the Sportsman Lodge. We have enjoyed our trips and stopovers at the Sportsman Lodge and will hopefully continue to do so on our trips through the area. Our thanks To...
Read moreWe are a military family and were moving from NC to Washington. We had spent about a month cooped up in hotel rooms while visiting family during our move. We were all miserable and tired of each others company by the time we got to Montana. Our first night in MT we stayed at your usual hotel with the typical amenities. It wasn’t bad. But after a month of traveling we were burnt out in hotels. My boys needed to run. My dogs needed to run. I needed them to run! My sanity was quickly slipping away. Our second day of driving the Montana we began looking for another hotel. We had one more day of driving in front of us, and we were all excited. The only affordable place we could find that was pet friendly was Sportsman lodge. So I booked a night. My husband is from New Jersey. He grew up in the city. Country life is not something he has ever experienced. I grew up in Texas. I thrive when I am away from big towns and cities. I am happiest where there is space to spread out, horses sticking their heads out through the wire to get to the grass on the other side, and a small town where everybody knows everybody. The country is where I am happiest. When we first arrived my husband was iffy. It is not what he is used to. The boys and I were absolutely thrilled. For the first time in what seems like forever, they were able to get out and run around. They were able to rough house without fear of somebody complaining. In short, they were able to be boys. My 8 and 9 year old started begging to go fishing. Sadly, we had no fishing gear and I did not have a fishing license. They settled for running around, and going for a walk to see all of the farm animals. For the first time in 17 years I had a peaceful “I’m home” feeling. Despite it not being my home. The rooms were cozy and well kept. I loved the fact that the rooms were all dog friendly. There are blankets that you put on the furniture so the dogs can go on it all without worrying about messing it up. There was urine stain remover because they understand that dogs have accidents. The kitchen was well furnished with everything you’d need to cook. It wasn’t fancy but out of all the places that we have stayed, it is by far my favorite. I can not...
Read moreSportsman Lodge is okay... the rooms are cleanish, and if you're looking for basic accommodations while fishing or hunting, I suppose it's okay. There is no AC, and they haven't even bothered to put a simple swamp cooler in the rooms. The convertible couch in our room could kindly be called "vintage." They have a noisy floor fan and one small window you can open, along with the window in the door, which you better like being open as ours was so old you couldn't close it. That means lots of gnats getting in. They're self check in process seems convenient, until you realize there is no one around to go to for any of these or other issues. My parents, sister, and nephew stayed in a 3 bed room, which was no larger than ours, just had an extra wall and bed crammed in. The small beds were so wobly and bouncy it was ridiculous. The main bed was crammed in facing the large window like you were on display, and that window faced the ice and vending machines. Also, they have set up little bucket ashtrays immediately outside of each room, meaning that they are encouraging folks to smoke right there, right outside your room. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. It needs serious updating in its accommodations to be worth the price, and is just not set up to be a friendly...
