We had an amazing time staying at the Royal Gorge Yurt for two nights. The yurt was very clean. Each yurt has a private patio with a propane grill, which was clean and good quality. Also there was a patio table and chairs, trash can, propane fire pit and adironak style chairs. Inside the yurt were Keurig coffee makers. I recommend bringing a gallon of water for this and you’ll need your own K cups. The bathrooms were near the main road. There were porta potties closer to the yurts, but I always walked up to the building. Those bathrooms and showers were clean. There are large covered areas to hang out with a bigger group of people that have tables and chairs, rockers, horseshoes and corn hole. There is a “trail”, but I wouldn’t recommend it for small children or dogs. There are a lot of cactus right in the pathway, and some narrow paths/steep edges. Otherwise it does have nice views. It was August when we stayed so it was very warm inside the yurt during the day but it cooled off during the night with the windows open and provided fan in the yurt. The staff was helpful when we had an issue with the fire pit and quick to respond. If you book rafting or zip line through them, I believe you get 15% if staying at the yurts so we booked in person to get that discount. I had read a review about not being able to swim in the river. The current is strong, as the rafts go by this part of the river. However the swimming is at your own risk. There is a shallow part near the beach that you can wade in. It is easy to tell where the current begins. My kids had fun! We would absolutely stay in the yurts again. Blue heron felt private and had a great view of the river. This experience was everything we were hoping for, and would love to come...
Read moreOur 1st family trip to Colorado and we decided to stay here. We initially looked at the yurts, but with the daytime highs in the 80's and 90's we went with the airstream.
1st of all location. It was freaking awesome. The view and sound of the river was great. In the daytime 50 highway gets noisy, but it's a highway, expected. At night there is hardly any traffic and it's a peaceful as can be. You'll see the scenic train go by several times on the other side of the river and it's a cool sight to see.
The airstream. We stayed in Airstream One and although the price is up there, it was worth every penny if you have the money. It had all the accommodations you need with AC, toilet, shower, kurig, plenty of seating and the beds were good enough. The airstream had a good sized fridge and freezer, stove and microwave and the outdoor area had a grill and having the gas fire pit at night was awesome with the sound of the river.
The facility. It's rad. There are a couple beaches you can chill at. One you can get in the water and hang out And the other you can sit at but in the afternoon rafters are entering or departing although that's fun to watch. There are 2 trails (easy trails) with one that parallels the river and I'm pretty sure goes right to the royal gorge. We did check the showers and bathrooms the folks who rent the yurts use and they were clean and we would have had no issues using them if we rented a yurt.
Our family's of 4 loved it and will be back. Highly...
Read moreWe just stayed with our friends at the Yurts (The Red one!!) last week! It was so nice!! not only are the Yurts super cool, but it was beautiful! It was super relaxing sitting by the river and watching the geese. Good news, there were no rats or mice! It appears they have really taken care of this issue! Actually, we didn't even really have very many bugs/pests at all. The Yurts were very clean with plenty of room for 4 adults! We ate all of our meals except one at the Yurt while we were these (3 nights/days)
We did have an issue with our patio lights, Keurig, and fire-pit, but all 3 of the minor issues were resolved in less than 30 minutes of us telling someone (Chainsaw Dave)! I really can not say enough good things about this place.
Only real complaints were: Bathrooms- closest to Yurts are port-a-potties. Honestly, they were SUPER clean, didn't stink- pleasantly surprised! Tip: bring your own TP and it makes it that much nicer!! There is a train that comes through a few times a day. Most times is nice to see all the people exploring the Royal Gorge (we did the train and really enjoyed it!), but there was a day or two where an actual working train came through early in the morning!
Lastly, I know I mentioned it above, but HUGE THANK YOU to Chainsaw Dave for getting our issues resolved so quickly! You customer service and attitude was wonderful! We appreciate your help!! Hope this review helps you to pull the plug and enjoy this...
