I go to Vermont almost every year and Groton State Forest area is my favorite for photography and hiking. ||Fruitlands B&B was my home away from home during my October 2017 trip. The charming house is located on the hill ||over the picturesque village of Cabot. The location is hard to beat if you are adventurous or romantic type and ||want to stay in close proximity to the gorgeous Groton State Forest and Vermont's quaint villages, such as ||Peacham, Cabot. That is besides the fact that this area is photographer's dream. ||Jane and Dan are wonderful hosts. I stayed on the second floor bedroom. It is very spacious, quiet and has a ||private bathroom next to it. If you don't mind the stairs, it is perfect. Jane asks you what time you want your ||breakfast and treats you with the pancakes and blueberry muffins you will never forget. She cooks them herself, ||with fresh blueberries from the orchard. They have canoes, and Dan said he could drop a canoe at one of the ||numerous ponds nearby. Unfortunately, I didn't have time for a canoe trip: there were so many other things to do ||in the area and I only had 4 days! I highly recommend Fruitlands but there are few things you will have to plan ||around if you decide to stay in this area. First, mobile service network is a challenge in this rural area. ||Fruitlands is working on installing Wi-Fi and you can use the landline while there, at least. Second, Cabot- ||Danville area has few bakery-cafes serving tasty lunches, but no fine dining. If you like fine dining in the ||evening you will have to drive 35...
Read moreIf you want to get "away from it all," this is a great place to visit. It is a working farm in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. The only livestock are about 10 guinea hens that live on the farm and walk around eating larvae all day and a couple of chickens. The crops are blueberries, raspberries, apples, and pears.||||I stayed in the Alcott Suite, which is really a very large room with a divider between the bedroom portion and the living room/kitchen portion. The kitchen is fully equipped in case you want to cook yourself. Breakfast is included and it consists of two courses. The first is fruit (naturally) and the second varies from day to day and includes French toast, pancakes, and omelets. It is quite tasty.||||The hostess is Janet. When we first arrived she was very shy, but after a day when she got to know us, she was very talkative, telling all about the local area and places to visit, as well as the history and government of Vermont, which she knows very well. We definitely enjoyed talking to her. Dale was mostly busy with maintenance so we didn't talk to him much.||||There is no cellular service anywhere in the area. The Alcott Suite has a DSL cable, so if you have a computer with an RJ45 port, you can get high-speed Internet. I bugged them to go buy a WiFi router. A perfectly adequate one is only $30. Hopefully by writing this here I can embarrass them into doing it. That would make the place absolutely perfect. But if you are trying to escape civilization, maybe you don't need connectivity. That is the only flaw in an otherwise...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming bed & breakfast in Marshfield, Vermont and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The B&B, nestled in the Vermont's serene countryside, offers easy access to some of best tourist spots and hiking trails in the area. The hosts Dale & Jane, were absolutely delightful. They not only run the B&B but also manage an impressive farm where they grow apples, & berries. Their warmth and hospitality made the stay even more special. They take pride is using their farm's fresh produce for the homemade breakfast they server every morning and it was one of the highlights of my stay.
The room itself was cozy and inviting, complete with its own portico where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The added bonus of having a kitchen made it feel like a home away from home, perfect for longer stays.
Overall, if you are looking for a relaxing getaway with access to nature, great hosts, and delicious food, this B&B is a hidden gem in...
