If you are looking for something fancy, I frankly don't know why you're looking in this part of the desert, but if you're looking for a clean and safe place to rest, with amazingly friendly staff (and towns folk in general), then Alamo Inn is it. I found myself trapped there after my truck went out, and this town and its people truly helped me make the best out of a bad situation.
The rooms are reasonably priced. The owner is very kind and everyone speaks so highly of him. The pet fee was mkniman for my dog, and there's lots of space for a dog to have play time. There are some prickly bits from local plants, so small paws might want booties, but it's mostly gravel/dirt. The rooms were clean and had what er needed.
Theres nothing as far as restaurants, but the Sinclair Glas station has a full Tardis-type store in that I thought it was just a gas station stop, but it's a whole a$$ grocery store, and pretty well stocked for how remote they are. There's also a chicken spot in the store.
A lot of police presence, mostly passive, just sitting on the side of the road... But the road is all there is to the town, so don't come trying to cause mess. They ready.
If you are passing through and need a place for the 3 S's (sleep, sh*t, & shower), Alamo Inn is definitely a great option.
I took off one star because the room is carpeted (personal preference, especially for pet friendly places), and because cell & internet coverage is shotty. The motel does offer free wifi, but likely to to the remote area and the cement walls, it's not super strong. Also, locals advised Verizon works well out here. So if you really need strong cell/internet, consider that. But don't be discouraged. If the scale was 1-10, they'd be...
Read moreStayed here for a week with a group. My personal experience was good enough for a small hotel in a little-traveled town, but some others in my group had issues with their rooms. Some examples I heard about: gap in the door which let in a ridiculous number of insects, backed up shower drains, sewage smell in tap water, broken A/C, hole in the wall that looked like someone had punched it. Couple issues I had were the phone in my room didn't work very well, the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on my door was gone so I had a cleaner try to get in my room without knocking at least once, the decor in all the rooms was very outdated from the 70s, and there was a picnic area with ashtrays right in front of some of the rooms, so if you're unlucky to get one by it, be prepared to breathe in toxic second-hand smoke everytime you open your door and someone's smoking out there. Aside from the cons, pros included free coffee in the main office, new mini-fridges and microwaves in the rooms, daily cleaning if you need it, and an interesting history (I learned that Janet Leigh of Psycho fame stayed at this hotel several times as it was between her house and her mother's house). It's not a bad place to stay for one night while traveling, but would probably recommend a different place for any...
Read moreThis is a locally owned, older, budget motel which met my needs perfectly for an overnight as I was heading home. The price is good, I was comfortable, I was toasty warm on a cold night, I was traveling alone and felt safe, my pup was my traveling buddy and he was welcome too for only $5 additional, and last but not least, all of the staff were so friendly. Vern, I think the owner, is the nicest of people, warm and genuine. He had gone out of his way to help some travelers who had a wreck nearby while I was there. There are VERY few places to stay along a long stretch of road, and I would stay here every time. There is also less than a quarter mile away I think it’s a Sinclair gas station and store with some hot food and great cinnamon rolls. Very convenient for both refilling the tank (and I would definitely top off the tank here if headed north) and getting a bite to eat. There are big green dinosaurs out front, so you can’t miss it. ||Thank you to Vern and the other two staff members who assisted me. You all made me feel...
