We drove over 7 hours from western Arkansas to pick up our granddaughters who were traveling in from Ohio (our halfway point) to bring them back for the summer. We have always stayed in Pudacah at a Marriott property, over the years, but decided to stay closer to the lake this time. Our meeting point is the Love's Travel Station, located maybe a 1/4 mile from this property in Calvert City. I started searching for places to stay and decided on this property due to its reviews and its inexpensive price per night. My husband and I are Marriott Rewards Members, and I knew that the stay probably wouldn't compare to their properties, but I really enjoy a "Mom and Pop" place and decided "why not"...
(1) Checkin--extremely nice, sweet Lady with tons of information about the local area. She and I had a great conversation sharing information about our travels and grandchildren. She suggested the restaurant on the same property for dinner (J-Macks BBQ) and it was so good! Check out their page, awarding winning, and they ain't lying... it was that good! FYI, go early because they may run out of food and when they do,, tough luck LOL--they close at 8 p.m. on Fridays). (2) The Room-- it was huge! The property is definitely a "motel court", guessing built in the 50's or close, could be earlier but not sure. One can see it's been remodeled over the years, but still has the charm we expected. Our room consisted of 2 queen beds and they were high off the floor, which I love. I'm 5'9 and when sitting on the bed, my feet were about a foot above the floor LOL. Both beds were as comfortable as any Marriott that I've slept in and that says a lot! The linens were clean, fresh, and comfortable, as well as, the smell of the room and carpet. (3) The cooling and heating unit--- the location was kind of weird, close to the ceiling on the back wall. Don't get me wrong, it was a newer unit and worked like a charm, just hard to set the controls due to the height off the floor, but wasn't a problem as my husband is taller and was able to push the right buttons. (4) The bathroom--This is where you could see the age of the property. The shower was a "step-in box" with a curtain. The base was maybe a foot tall, yet the actual size of the shower space was large and had grip bars on the outside and in to provide help if needed. It had several shelves in the back corners to hold products you might have, but the only problem was that the shower head was located next to the curtain in the front (probably due to remodeling over the years). The pedestal sink was a little wobbly, but the toilet was a major flusher which is always appreciated. The newer soap dispenser unit, which was mounted on the shower wall, was empty, but we always bring our own products, and didn't cause a problem for us. The bathroom tile floor/shower floor was clean even in the corners. Yes, I always check! (5) Although we stayed 1 night, there were plenty of chests in the unit to place clothing for longer stays. (6) There were chairs outside our unit and we appreciated them so much as we were able to enjoy the weather and relax during the beautiful sunset/sunrise.
With all of that said, I gave the property 4 Stars and we will most definitely be returning in August when we take the girls back to meet their Mom. One more thing... we ate breakfast at Calvert Cafe, not a long drive at all from this location, and it's a must.. was absolutely delicious! Huge portions and great prices for the 4 of us ($32 + change) and that included drinks! I had the "Double" which included 2 pieces of bacon (not that thin stuff, thick and crisp), 2 eggs, country potatoes, and biscuit/gravy--$5.99! The pancakes are HUGE.. start with 1,...
Read moreHubby and I booked one night at Wingfield after deciding we were done driving for the day. Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we expected better. ||||We like the old-fashioned style motel because you can park your car three feet from your door, and we have no complaints about staff or cleanliness. But this little motel is very bare bones basic in the amenities department. ||||Our king room had two nightstands and two dining room style padded chairs, but no desk or table for utilizing laptops. Laptop ended up being irrelevant because wi-fi is nonexistent. The speed is like dial-up internet. Wingfield Inn is in the middle of nowhere, and we couldn't even connect to Hubby's phone hotspot.||||There were two total lamps in the entire room - no ceiling lighting, no closet light. The bathroom had a light, of course, but no exhaust fan. There was no floor space for stashing luggage, so we had to utilize the closet. But we couldn't see inside the suitcase in the dark. ||||There is no full length mirror, and no mirror at all except for the tiny one high above the sink. You couldn't get dressed here for an event because you can't see what you look like.||||Despite the shower having three separate dispensers on the wall for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, there are no toiletries provided except bar soap. All the dispensers were empty. There is no tub - just a shower stall. Water pressure was fine, but the faucet is the older kind where you have to turn two separate knobs for hot and cold, so it was tricky finding a comfortable temperature. ||||There is no iron or board and no safe, and there are no blackout curtains - only slat blinds. The room did have a microwave, mini-refridge, hair dryer, and radio alarm clock. In-room coffee service was provided. ||||Breakfast is included in the room rate, and we were told that waffles are served, but we don't get up in time for hotel breakfasts. Check out is noon.||||The bed was comfortable and sleep was sound after the kids parked on lawn chairs outside the lobby finally quit talking after midnight. The room wasn't soundproof. The AC worked well.||||The room was spotless clean, except for the dirty plate left in the microwave. The staff did its best to make us...
Read moreI have driven by this place literally hundreds of times and never thought to stay. It is an older motel, and a little quirky, but has recently had a few updates. I stayed here for three reasons: Location, Price, and the positive Google reviews. Checking in the very friendly owner invited me to help myself to a cold bottle of water from a mini fridge next to the counter. I pulled one out, but it was still warm--having been recently restocked--but I thought nothing of it. He noticed it didn't look cold, so he stopped what he was doing and got me two more cold bottles from the fridge, one for each person in our party! A simple thing, but these folks want you to feel welcome. Room was clean, beds were comfortable, shower was hot, price was amazing especially on a holiday weekend where most hotels in the area were twice the price. Right up the street from the lake, it is a very short drive or a long walk to the beach and dam (maybe a mile?). Plenty of boat/trailer parking. Super friendly staff. I love to support small businesses and this place did not disappoint. This is my new go to place in the KY Lake area....
