I had a State Parks Policeman pull up to my campsite around 2pm one day, in an obviously State pickup truck, with a light bar and the words "State Park Police" printed large on its side. A burly man in his 30s hopped out, and in booming voice shouted "I'm a State Parks Police Officer, and I need to talk with you!" I was sitting in the cab of my pickup truck, playing Clash of Clans while the phone charged, with my 'old person' readers on. So I looked up, and calmly said, "I see that. I can see who you are," while holding the phone in my right hand, truck door open, and remaining seated. I noticed his sidearm, his thick body armor, and I gave him my full attention. Apparently I had exceeded my yearly limit on the number of days anyone can stay during a 12-month period. I was wrong to have thought I could have bought more. But for an easy 10 minutes this armed man yelled at me - after telling me he wasn't going to make me move out - loud enough for anyone with ears to hear. I asked a friend about this later, and she said he was trying to provoke me. But after he left, I stayed in the truck and played that game, for about 2 hours. And you could have heard a squirrel fart on the far side of it. During those hours people walked by, on their way to the restroom, and walking their dogs. When they passed each other in front of my truck they silently mouthed the words "Hello!" and "Hi!" to each other while passing. I was wrong to buy additional days to park my trailer. My wrong was an infraction. I feel very grateful it wasn't a low-grade misdemeanor, because I'm afraid of how he might have reacted to that kind of violation. I've had a thin blue strip of tape on the rear window of my truck for a couple of years now, just below a star in a red-bordered white rectangle, that I've had there a lot longer. They were there long before this interaction. The star means I have one immediate family member on active duty in the service. The thin blue line means I support our law enforcers. Both the tape and the star are still there. Otherwise, 2 stars. Lots and LOTS of ticks; showers are ONLY for those campers who bought inside the full-hookups section; and you can't park outside of the dirt pad in your campsite parking area, on the other dirt. That and little cell service, and no WiFi. But until the rogue Parks cop, it was worth the price. Now, I'm afraid to ever...
Read moreSecond time camping at San Simeon Creek Campground, first time camping in the Washburn Dry, primitive camping section of the campground. We are on our last of a seven day stay in our Class C motorhome. The drive to the campground was asphalt paved until the last section leading to the camp area which was decomposed granite. All portions of the roads were good and would not have any reservations driving a Class A, B, or like ours C to camp sites. It rained several days while here and the roads maintained safe drivability coming and going.
The bathrooms were vented little huts with non flushable toilets that were clean and maintained every day. There are no showers back here but you can drive down the hill to the non primitive camping and use the coin operated showers there.
We felt very safe here because the rangers drove through the camps every day many times checking things out.
There are plenty of dumpster around camp area to throw your trash away and they empty every Monday morning around 7:00 AM or so.
We had no interruption of our Verizon internet services at Washburn Campground which was a huge plus for us.
The morning sunrises and afternoon sunsets are great!
The only item we would like to see changed is the generator operating times. Right now its 8:00 pm to 10:00 am quiet time. For us the 8:00 am run time would be better at least in the winter time to heat the coach.
There is also a $10.00 dump fee at the dump station, and at the time of writing this review the water to flush tanks and hoses was non operational. You can still dump just cant rinse tank or hoses. There is a fresh water fill just outside dump area thats still operational.
All in all this is a great camp experience and would come back...
Read moreDo you know what is incredible about this campground, the LOCATION....
So here are the cons : filthy Porto potty style toilets that are spread out very far from each other so they are always taken up if you have to use a toilet and its occupied good luck gettingto the next oneand good luck that it wont be occupied, ground squirrels everywhere ( and they are hangry) , there is ZERO privacy( usually when people go camping it is to GETAWAY from the world), dirty filthy and sticky picnic table was in the camp spot provided, the campground says the beach is a half mile walk( No..it is more like almost one mile one way down hill and the trail is walking alongside the road you have to traverse to get to the uphill camp...then..after you enjoy the beach...you have to walk that mile back uphill) It also feels cold and damp due to coastal climate in the evening( bring hoodie/ pants/ blankets) The PROS.. like I said..the location is amazing, sure..you have to go everywhere in your car to get to most local attractions unless you bring a bicycle...a mountain bike is highly suggested due to rough terrain. The stars can be seen in the night sky it is captivating. The beaches are gorgeous. Please be aware of ticks in the grass for the health of your children...
