Great safe camp site for the whole family!
This campground is open year long (as long as there is an available site). Pricing is $10 per day for overnight ($8 per additional vehicle) and $8 to day camp from morning till night. There is also a group site that can be reserved. RV's and trailers are permitted although you may need to back in to your spot. There are no hookups however.
The scenery is beautiful with big lush cottonwoods and Clear Creek that runs through the campground. There is a big open field in the middle, perfect for a game of catch or any other activity where you need a large open space. Take a ten minute walk towards the day camp area, cross the creek, go over a hill and you'll see where the creek pools up allowing for a 5' deep swimming area and small ledge to jump off if you're brave enough. You can hear soothing sounds of the creek running through as you sleep.
The weather is on par with Camp Verde weather. We normally get a breeze in the afternoon. Mid-day directly in the sun will get hot if you camp anywhere from April to September. Otherwise it's not too bad in the shade and there are lots of trees to sit under. Night time gets cold, even in early May when we camped here this particular trip. Extra blankets at night will probably be necessary.
You'll find many reptiles sneaking around, as well as lots of squirrels. There are quite a few bugs at night time too, so it's good to have your food sealed if you tent camp. Flying bugs weren't too bad and we didn't deal with many spiders thankfully. Back where the creek pools, we found mountain goats walking along the mountain behind it.
Amenities include a large stone table and fire pit. Wood is available from the host at $7 a bushel. Most ground is flat making for easy tent setup. Drinking water is available from one of the pumps scattered around. It is recommended you bring your own potable water for doing dishes and bathing if you need. Vaulted toilets are also available, and pretty clean for the most part. There's a small convenience store just minutes from the campground. You'll find a Dollar General a little further down the road. Finally, the town of Camp Verde is about 20 minutes from the campground which has a Mexican restaurant and a liquor store.
The host will greet you on your way to your camp site. Just choose an available spot and start setting up camp. The host is nice but will do his best to keep everyone respectable. At the time of this writing, Dick is the host. The camp was pretty much full when we got there but everyone was incredibly nice. My kids 1, 5 and 10 made friends with the other kids in no time. Night time is quiet time although not strictly enforced. Again, for the most part everyone is respectful.
If you have young kids or are a beginner camper, this is a perfect spot to visit nearly any time if year. The creek is beautiful and just about a foot deep near camp. Never had a problem with any dangerous animals and we've been coming here nearly a decade. We find this to be one of the safest campgrounds available considering the weather and...
Read moreWell let me start with we went camping for Memorial Weekend 2018. We got to the camp ground really early. We paid our fee right away. We stayed two nights. The host told us right away no music after 10 PM. We were fine with that till the afternoon we decided to cook our lunch. We had a small speaker (blue tooth connection) keep in mind not loud at all. He came literally running to our camp ground and told us that we need to turn off our music 😡 it was 12 o'clock in the afternoon. We had no choice but to turn it off, and were very upset about that. He sells ice bags on ,Sunday morning I decided to go buy two bags. I went to his trailer and asked him I would like to buy two bags please, He responded sure. While he was getting the ice he commented to me wow it's only 9am and you guys are gonna start drinking 😟 we were getting ready to leave the camp. We were packing our things we had no intention of drinking. The bathrooms were never cleaned. We stayed two nights and not once were they cleaned. The host did put toilet paper but nothing else. To end we will not be returning to this camp ground ever again. I prefer to not be told that I'm a drunk and to be able to go to a...
Read moreMy husband and I do dispersed camping a lot but decided to give this spot/"campground" a try. What a terrible idea that was. The campground allows dogs, and we brought our dog, but other camper's dogs were barking all night. In general, this campground is very loud.
We booked it for two nights but ended up leaving after one. We booked site 8 which we really enjoyed the location of but our neighbors at site 7 showed up at 8pm and were setting up camp loudly for several hours, not to mention they had a large construction style spotlight facing towards our site. It was a large group and we were not next to any group sites.
We attempted to get some sleep around 10:30pm and they were still loud around 3am. We were up at 6am, made breakfast and packed up and left shortly after. This campground is VERY much city camping and I suggest picking a spot off a dirt road and doing dispersed camping for more peace and quiet (and it's free).
I have camped in Zion and Havasupai at designated campgrounds with a similar setup, twice the size, in a canyon, and have never experienced a campground that was this loud with guests who have zero...
