Beautiful area, but that probably goes without saying. Lots of bike, hike and horse trails. Trails need to be marked better and the trail head billboards removed or cleaned up as they contain all kinds of graffiti and idle scrawling. Also some trail brochures would be nice too.
The people at the camp office are easy to talk with. The park is very laid back with kids running around everywhere to the point where personal safety could be an issue as the speed limit is not enforced at this campground, and vehicles zoom up/down the rows too fast.
While bathrooms are cleaned, they are outdated. The bathroom stalls and shower walls need a scrubbing or paint job as they are stained or marked with god-knows what. Shower water pressure is doable, but just.
Some of sites share an electric pedestal, and the pedestals seem far away from the parking pads, thus having an extension cord is necessary. The sites in the center to back of the campround share pedestals. The newer area below the campoffice and under the trees do not share pedestals. Sites are lined along rows, so for some campers this could feel too close and personal to other campers, especially for those that value their privacy. The tent section has the most privacy.
Verizon 4G LTE signal was hit or miss. Wifi can be purchased at around 4$/day or 10$ /3days. Speed wasn't much more than 0.70 to 0.79 Mbps, and worse when a lot of people are using the wifi. I found my verizon 4g 1 to 2 bars signal faster than their paid wifi, and felt like I wasted money using their paid wifi.
For Amazon CamperForce the commute is about 6miles one way, along some curvy and slow going rural roads that are loaded with deer, then the 2nd half of the commute is on a state route, which is fast going. The lake, beach, playgrounds and mini-golf course are nice. All and all compared to other experiences at many other state parks this is avg+ or 3 to 4 stars.
Personal suggestions for improvement: Another shower house that is not up against the woods. Speed bumps or some kind of speed calming measures. Another dump station or better laid out dump station. Better wifi service that has speeds in line with the 21st century. A tree or two between sites. Marked trails and cleaned up trail head areas that include better trail info. Kayak and/or...
Read moreA beautiful place to camp, but not consistent. While there was a huge amount of people in the lake in front of the camp sites, with floaties and such, when we go in to swim— we get stopped by the park ranger and get told we’re not allowed to swim... but didn’t go around and tell everyone else? that were... literally in the water? Another complaint is the quiet time. The people next to our site in primitive were hooting and hollering, drunk, until around 2:30A.M. Not once did someone come around to ensure everyone was following the 11:00P.M. quiet time. The people next to us, who also had children that had to hear the nasty things these people were saying, were SO angry also. None of us connect to the wifi, people with golf carts kept riding at night and hitting our tent with their headlights... sigh. The good thing about this camp though, is the employees. Everyone we encountered was so kind and helpful! The store had lots of things for our convenience and the...
Read moreBreaks my heart. This is a beautiful place but the campground has really gone downhill fast. No host. No enforcement of any rules at all. Never see anyone cleaning the sites between visitors. It is like the wild west now. One site rental turns into site for camper, two or three cars, 22-24 ft pontoon, golf cart, trailer for golf cart, tent/s. It is crazy and not an exaggeration! People parking down by the water, people tromping through your site, unleashed pets, locals with their rigs parked in one spot for months/all summer long so you'll never really get a nice site. Basically, summer homes paid for by KY taxpayers. The lake is...
