Sharing the review I left on Airbnb for our stay at MSC on Labor Day Weekend along with the owners condescending response. The response contains falsehoods (we never once communicated that the property was beautiful & gorgeous?)
I had zero intention of leaving this review here - but I was promised a free night for future use due to a water outage we experienced during our stay. The owner provided us with a code, that now appears to no longer work. Our code appears to be deactivated after my review was left on Airbnb. I stand by my 3-star rating and had hoped to give MSC another chance - but after the owners response, we will not be returning.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Thom's place provided what we needed for a quick mountain getaway. If you are someone that prefers "modern luxuries" for your vacations then this may not be the best place for you. Yes, the cabin is a bit dated, but what it lacked in appearance, it made up for in views & serenity. During our stay, our water stopped working but Thom remained responsive throughout the entire process while they worked quickly to correct it. As a "thank you" - they invited all guests to the pavillion for a hot dog cookout - VERY nice of them. Aside from the water hiccup, the only thing that could use a bit of an upgrade is the Wifi as it consistently kept going in and out the whole weekend. Again, if you are looking for a stay where you can really disconnect for a bit, then Thom's place is perfect for you.
OWNERS RESPONSE: We're quite surprised by this review. After speaking with Drew and his quests, they never mentioned the cabin being dirty or dusty. They actually complimented us on the cabin and property being perfect and gorgeous. Our cabins undergo a 5 step process before each quest visit. Most of our reviews compliment us on being "squeaky" clean to use their words. If there is an issue, we usually resolve it immediately. We're apologize for missing something if it was dirty. Reporting us to Airbnb for the water pressure would be appropriate. Hopefully, Drew and his crew find accommodations that better suit their needs going forward. Authentic mountain cabins with gorgeous views, heirloom antiques and received 30 5 star reviews many complimenting our cleanliness apparently isn't a good fit. We aren't for everyone, and...
Read moreMountain Springs Cabins is an absolute delight! For outdoorsey types, it is situated less than 8 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The spouse and I went hiking several times during our visit, and everything we wanted to do was fairly close to the cabins. For foodies, it's just a few miles from downtown Asheville, home to some amazing local restaurants. Of course, we tried several of them, and they were all really, really good. For those who just like a quiet place to sit and relax, MSC is perfect. I loved just listening to the stream that runs through the property... and hearing the roosters across the stream. We stayed in Mockingbird cabin, which is adults-only and has a jacuzzi tub. The tub is exactly what you would need after a long day of hiking. And since I love to cook, having a kitchen in the cabin means you don't have to eat out every single day for every single meal. Much healthier - and cheaper! There are a couple of grocery stores within about a 10 minute drive, so we could run and grab something, if we needed to. We drove from home & brought everything for breakfasts and lunches with us, along with cooking 3 dinners. The cabins are well stocked with plates, cups, pots, pans, etc. If I were to suggest to someone thinking about staying at MSC who can bring extra things with (and not have to worry about airplanes and TSA), bring aluminum foil (handy for the grill), a sharp chef's knife (I like using what I am used to using in the kitchen...it is safer that way), a cutting board, extra zip-top bags (handy for storing leftovers, bringing on hikes, etc.), and maybe a non-stick or cast-iron skillet. The staff is super-knowledgeable about things to do locally, restaurant recommendations, hiking trails...they were just the best. How I can describe MSC is summed up by how we spent every morning...we woke up to the sound of the rushing stream, fixed a bowl of cereal & a cup of coffee, walked out onto the porch, sat in the porch swing, and just enjoyed the sounds around the cabin - including those crazy roosters - while we ate breakfast & figured out what we were going to do that day. We'll...
Read moreZERO STARS! BURGLARY, VANDALISM, AND FILTHY. We (my wife and 5 year old son) stayed at Mountain Springs Cabins in Candler, North Carolina for our summer vacation. At more than $270 per night I believed we were going to be treated well and have nice accommodations. It began with us entering the cabin and having spiders all over the inside of it. 3 in the bathroom sink, many in the shower, cob webs all over the living room with countless spiders everywhere (see pictures below). They were all shapes and sizes too, orb weavers, wolf spiders, and I think a brown recluse. I understand we are in the woods but the place was filthy to say the least and at the price I paid it should have been in much better condition. The beds were terrible and the furniture is extremely old and dirty. The kitchen is terrible. The refrigerator ruined a lot of our food and the oven definitely doesn't cook evenly. Unfortunately when we woke up on our last day at 3AM, we had found that a rock was hurled through our passenger side window and caused extensive damage to the door as well as the interior of the vehicle. Then our belongings were taken from the vehicle as well. We were leaving at 3am for our drive back to Florida. I called the cabins to report the incident and what had happened. No call back or email from the owner or boss. At $270 a night (we stayed for 6 nights) I thought there was something they could or should have done. I tried to call corporate (probably 12 times, multiple messages and emails from both my wife and I) as well as the owner and have not received a call back or any notice from them. Definitely will return to North Carolina in the future but most definitely will not be staying with Mountain Springs Cabins. I added pictures to show I was serious about what I said. There is still much more with the conditions of the cabin but it's aggravating enough that I will...
