The lodge itself is beautiful and the views are amazing! The owners are very nice, but the lodging service was so-so. We stayed in the honeymoon suite, which is separate from the main house. We enjoyed privacy and a roaring fire, plus more gorgeous views.
When we arrived, however, the suite had dead ladybugs throughout the suite on the floor, some mashed into the bathroom floormats. Apparently, they had sprayed for ladybugs earlier that day. No one swept them up. In fact, there was no housecleaning at all while we were there. I would expect this at a VRBO, but not at a B&B. We didn’t use the oversized tub, because we didn’t feel comfortable that the jets had been sanitized.
We purchased the elopement package, and thought that included coordination of the wedding on the day of the ceremony, but there wasn’t much coordination. We had to move outdoor furniture to make space for the ceremony – something I think the owners should have planned out and done ahead of time. The bouquet and boutonniere were given to us right before the ceremony, so they were missing from all the pre-ceremony pictures. Champagne and glasses were set out on a table for after the ceremony, which we didn’t have time to enjoy. We had to rush off to Asheville for our lunch reservations and rather than putting the champagne in our room, they asked us to take it to our suite ourselves (by car),. We expected more service for what we paid for the elopement package. There were no special touches in our room the night of our wedding, which if it were our B&B, we would have done.
On a positive note, Darla provided excellent breakfast service – her cooking is tasty!
In a nutshell, the location is outstanding, breakfast is worth it, but don’t expect five-star service. Also, the area of the house downstairs (pool table, treadmill, media room) advertised for guests was occupied by the owner...
Read moreBeautiful place , amazing view ! We stayed in the gooseberry room. Our host was amazing and very welcoming.... however, there was nothing in the print that mentioned the owners stay in the lodge. It stated innkeeper but we didn't know this was also their residence. I felt as if I was walking around in someone's home which ruined the feeling of an alone getaway. First off, one of the main attractions other than the view was the hot tub in the room. When we arrived in our room we were greeted with a printed letter with what we can and can not do. There were limitations on the hot tub,( one cycle turning jets on only one time..also alcohol prohibited). The game room and quiet time..... The television was outside of the room, shared with whomever stays in the room beside us. Along with the TV, was also the microwave , refrigerator( no leftover resteraunt food allowed to be stored in refrigerator) and also a camera set up that we noticed. Very uncomfortable.....
Game room.... sauna sits along side of treadmill, shuffleboard and everything else with no privacy. We went to play pool and the Cueball was missing which was disappointing. Overall for the price we paid...I felt extremely limited. If your looking for an amazing view and total relaxation knowing the owners stay...then this place is for you. However, if your wanting to feel alone and free and full enjoyment with your partner...this is not the...
Read moreAbsolutely beautiful Wildberry Lodge with a stunning location, friendly owner and staff, and amazing food. We decided to splurge for our 30th anniversary, so we stayed in the Blackberry Suite. The king bed was comfy, the sitting room was nice, we even sat some on our private balcony. The bathroom was very large with lots of counter space. We never turned on the TV once while we there. The three breakfasts were all delicious and were all different. We ate them on the large deck enjoying the view. I highly recommend getting back to the lodge in time for the sunset. We brought back a pizza one night but it was still a bit too warm for sitting outside, so a staff member graciously cleared a table by a large window for us to eat. We then moved outside as it cooled off. The roads approaching the lodge are narrow and twisty, so it does take a bit of time to get there, but we liked being away from Asheville. I will admit that we did have a couple of issues with the very steep driveway in our Prius, but I figured out that you had to get a good start at the bottom and just keep going, but not too fast, as there are a couple of ridges in the road that I needed to slow down at with a vehicle likes ours, without a lot of clearance. That being said, the steep driveway was a small price to pay for the most spectacular views. There are even some nice trails going up the mountain that you can walk on. We saw some nice...
