I am so happy that I stopped at the Cape Motel for the night. Located just a few miles from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, it is also just a short drive to several beaches, as well as the historic Cape Charles district.
The motel has been recently renovated by the new owner, who created a down-to-earth, coastal, farmhouse vibe that made me feel right at home. The room was super clean, with a incredibly comfortable bed, high speed internet, and tv.
They were dog friendly as well, which is a huge bonus for me. And the hard flooring in the rooms made it feel that much cleaner, especially since they accommodate pets. There is nothing worse than an old dirty carpet in a hotel. There was a designated dog walk out back, with plenty of space, and bags provided for clean up.
My visit was in the off-season, but there seemed to be a few places to eat in the area. I opted to hit the grocery store, just five minutes down the road, and used the microwave in the room to make my dinner.
I was travelling alone, so the only thing that made me a little unsure at first was not having a deadbolt on the inside of the door, but I got over that pretty quickly. The staff were very warm and friendly and were onsite, and once I settled in it felt very safe.
I was sorry that I didn't get to enjoy the pool or the firepit during my stay. It was raining, and the weather was still pretty cool, but they looked like great additions to the property. I would definitely...
Read moreI stayed here for two nights with my three young children while visiting Cape Charles. We liked this motel! My boys loved, LOVED the bunny, turkey, and chickens. We liked the pool. I liked the picnic tables for snacks and meals I had packed. It’s off the main road and safe; I was able to open the door and send the kids out to run and play. I thought it was very family friendly. The room was small but very clean. It is new and tidy.
There are a few things that made this not 5 stars. These are things that pertain to us as a family with small children and realize these might not be issues for others. Nonetheless, we would like to visit again. -Many of the other guests were smokers. They were outside, as there is no smoking in the rooms. People were smoking at the pool and the outdoor common areas. -I requested a change of bed linens during our stay because we are a messy family. I asked for a linen change and the cleaning crew said they did not change sheets. I asked for a set of sheets so I could change the sheets myself but was told that wasn’t possible. (The cleaning lady did eventually give me sheets, after I remade the beds with dirty sheets). -There is loud music playing for most of the day at the Container Bar. Again, this might be very appealing to some! But I am reviewing from the point of view of a family.
My children are begging to return, and we...
Read moreWe spent a quick overnight here and we were so impressed with how this 1960s motel was renovated and preserved. It’s definitely a no frills place but the room was exceptionally clean. The bed was extremely comfortable with micro/fridge, 2-seat dinette and small desk. We had Room 16 (King bed). The bathroom had original tile/tub but fixtures have been modernized and it was very clean—but definitely not ADA if you are in need of that ||There was little to no road noise and the back of the motel was parallel to a corn field. The pool was open and clean. This is a pet friendly facility but were weren’t expecting four dogs to be in the small pool along with us. But whatever.||The only consideration I would recommend for the hotel owners is to add a second method of security. The door had a simple old school door knob and key but there was no chain nor hotel safety latch—anyone could easily pick the lock or enter with a master key etc||Overall, it was a simple stay at a great price over the 4th of...
