Deerfield Inn & Suites — Hotel in Caruthersville

I cannot recommend this place enough, and it’s all because of the staff. No 5-star hotel has staff like the one at Deerfield Inn & Suites. We found this hotel because we were driving through Steele on I-55 the night of the storm of Dec 10th. Visibility was low, rain was too heavy to keep driving to Memphis, it was hailing, and there were tornadoes. We got off the highway to seek shelter and we tried a gas station first and they didn’t want to let us in. We then went to the Deerfield Inn & Suites and they let us stay for a couple of hours at their lobby with our dog while waiting for the storm to pass. The town had no electricity. The deer Ville was the first place I could find off the road during a storm. As a woman traveling by myself I checked into the hotel. When I got to my room that was facing the truck stop I had an uneasy feeling and could hear voices in the next room and all the activity at the truck stop. I removed everything from the room I had not even unpacked a thing I was in the room for literally three minutes. I went and told the lady at the desk I needed to check out I did not feel safe in their establishment. She did not refund my card. I called to speak to a manager the next day who said it was their policy not to refund money. The room was also dark and rundown with two very small towels in the bathroom. My family and I stayed here a couple years ago and this time I was by myself. The lobby has some new upgrades and looked as clean an neat as I remember it. The same man was working and he remembered me! I was surprised since it had been a couple years. My bed had clean new duvet comforters, and I really like the soap dispensers in the bathroom! Never seen those in a motel before, and I like that I didn't have to fight to open a tiny bar of soap. They've added bagels and muffins to the breakfast and that was a nice touch.
