Frontier Drive-Inn||This place is fantastic. The attention to detail, from the towels, sheets to the decor are outstanding.||My daughter and I took a little road trip to Sand Dines NP then up to Salida at the beginning of November 2022. Found this place and since it was near San Dunes thought it would be a really cool place to stay. It definitely was, BUT it was cold…16 degrees to be exact. The yurts have pellet stoves which are great until the pellets run out. I should have filled up the entire hopper with pellets, but didn’t and was awoken twice during the night because it got REALLY cold when the pellets ran out. I’m not familiar with pellet heaters so that was an error on my part. ||The place is a little remote and we were the ONLY people there. There is no security gate so anyone could drive in and there was no staff around during our stay. Probably due to the time of year. ||The placement of the yurts is nice especially if you are traveling with other family/friends. The yurts are arranged in a circle with a nice fire pit in the center where you can hang out by a cozy fire. Each area has its own set of restrooms close by. Bathrooms are modern, CLEAN and heated and have a keypad entry and lock about 10 seconds after you enter. There are plenty of sinks and showers for several people at a time. We actually considered sleeping in there since it was heated. ||Sadly we arrived after dark and left the next morning in the dark, (when the remaining pellets ran out) so really didn’t get to see the entire grounds. I think this place would be great fun in the warmer months when they show movies. ||Our yurt was street side so we did hear the occasional traffic through out the night. You are out of town a ways so you can see thousands upon thousands stars. We did see the moon and Jupiter through the top of our yurt.||We did not visit the snack area and since it was dark and cold, did not venture out to find it. ||Original neon sign is definitely a cool feature.||Suggestions…|Extra blankets just in case someone like me is unfamiliar with pellet stoves or for those brave enough to visit that late in the year.. The wool cover on the bed was not enough. Luckily we had a small fleece blanket that we brought in from the car an used the bath towels the Frontier provided.|| With all that being said we LOVED it and would absolutely stay here again if we’re...
Read moreI don't often leave reviews, especially ones with more than a few words, but I felt I must for this place. This place was everything I expected. It is four hours from Denver so we made one stop on the way – to make a mini road trip out of it. We started hanging out in downtown Breckenridge to explore the shops, scenery and eateries and found a place in Vail at a fairly reasonable price since it wasn't yet ski season.. We then drove down 285 through a beautiful pass and through the town of Buena Vista (i.e. beautiful view). The golden leaves alone kept your attention the whole time but we also saw three Moose along the way.
Make sure to arrive early enough to grab a dinner in the small town of Center (unless you plan on cooking at The Inn – which you can!). There are also two restaurants in Center that close at 8 PM. Once there, unload to check out your beautiful surroundings. All units are amazing but we really enjoyed the shed in the latter part of the outdoor-movie-viewing season because the windchill was a tad chilly at night. But we ensconced ourselves underneath the corrugated roof of the shed and we were well-shielded. If there are kiddos they can stay warm watching the movie through the glass windows with a great view of the screen.
It was well worth it to visit this unique experience that you can truly find nowhere else but the Colorado frontier. I could definitely see myself coming back once every few years. I appreciate the amazing staff that were so helpful during my stay and willing to accommodate my physical disability!...
Read moreThe idea is fun but the execution is absolutely abysmal. There is no staff on site. Apparently we were supposed to receive a message with our room number and a key code for entry, but that was never sent to us. When we arrived, we simply had to wander around the site trying to find someone to help us and were fortunate to find another guest kind enough to give us the number that had texted them their instructions. There was not a single employee in sight nor was there any sort of phone number posted to call if you had trouble. When it came to the movie, they won't tell you the movie ahead of time but give you a theme. The theme for our weekend was Space and Bots so we came excited for some kind of sci fi type movie. When we got here, the theme they had posted was totally different and was not at all what we had wanted or expected to watch (the website still says Space and Bots, btw, so I guess they dont know how to read their own website?). To top it all off, our room stayed at a sweltering 85 degrees despite the temperature outside being in the 50s, the fan being on full blast, and the sliding door being open the whole time. And yes, we checked to make sure the heat was off. Overall it was an absolutely miserable stay and we will not be coming back or recommending it to...
