My husband and I have visited the Estate about 3 times a year the last several years. Albemarle is a fabulous property. It’s a boutique hotel, unfortunately it’s run more like a Hampton inn. There are guests who arrive in large groups and leave the pool unavailable to other guests, this seems to be ok with management as it’s been addressed by many and several times. A group of 6 drunks in floaties, drinking out of champagne and wine bottles (while they are swearing up a storm) makes it less than relaxing for other guests. Their multiple dogs were on pool chairs meant for guests. We did not have our room refreshed for days as the staff was busy cleaning up the filth thus crew left behind. When anyone questioned this gang their response was do u know who we are 🤣. ||We recently booked their top suite for our anniversary. I called ahead and asked if this group is here please move our reservation out a few days. The general manager emailed me and suggested I might find accommodations elsewhere, guess what, I did! ||We are huge Trump supporters and have been great evangelists for Albemarle estate, no more! ||We have had excellent stays and stays that have been beyond awful! Kids running through the halls after midnight, staff didn’t want to get involved. You can no longer cancel after 14 days before booking. If your experience is awful, u are spending 1k a night and management doesn’t care you are our your money. Too many fantastic bed and breakfast’s and hotels to deal with this nonsense. We have stayed at Albemarle about 9 times, we would never consider returning! ||Our last visit we were encouraged by the general manager to arrive a day early. She failed to tell us there was a wedding party . There was no parking. The gaggle of girls cane to breakfast in a boutique hotel in pajamas and staff was a ok with it all,...
Read moreI have a hard time deciding how to rate this as 3 * or lower. Unlike most people that will review here, I've had the opportunity to see inside every single room on the whole estate. The grounds were beautiful, although you had to see it from outside, because every one of their windows looks like they hadn't been cleaned since Thomas Jefferson. I was there for a wedding, the entire estates was closed for our party. I'm sure you can only imagine the cost. The rooms, cheapest is $560/nt, did not feel like they were getting the value for the money. If I'd have spent it elsewhere, I'd have had a hot tub in the room, and all the rooms would have had walk in showers. The biggest thing that was most disappointing, was the manager Amanda(I believe). After Sooo much $$ spent there, she would go around sniffing your cup to see if it was alcohol. If it was and you hadn't bought it from her, she actually dumped it out!! She dumped drinks all evening, even a few that were gotten from her just poured into plastic cups so we could be by the pool, and really made everyone in the wedding party upset. Also, you cannot smoke on the grounds at all. $500 fine. So no celebratory cigars y'all. The remainder of the staff, was great! So, if your staying just a night and are passing through, it would probably be great; indoor theater room, one pool table, great history, 1300 acres, old artifacts and stories, and you won't mind that the shower curtain isn't arched out and rubs you down as you shower. I'm not going to post pictures through Windows or of the rooms,...
Read moreThe estate is beautiful. The winery is fantastic and food at the winery is great. However, when paying over $650 per night I am expecting over the top and that wasn’t the case with Ablemarle. We started in one of the cottages which was very nice. There was a power outage and the cottages are not on generator. They moved us to the pool house. You cannot control the heat in the pool house. You have to call the front desk. We had to have the heat adjusted several times. In the middle of taking a shower the water pressure dropped to almost nothing and the water turned cold. When I reported this, I was asked what time I took the shower because they did have someone working on the water but not during the time I took my shower. Unlike the spacious bathroom in the cottage, the bathroom was tiny. I’m fairly sure the bathroom is not to code. You could not open the door all the way because the toilet was in the way. The food in the restaurant was ok. Nothing spectacular and fairly expensive (surf and turf special was $90). As a comparison we had a three course meal at Harrimans in Middleburg for $99. The breakfast eating area was very sunny and tables situated so that one person had to get sun in their eyes. Evidently the curtains were sent to be cleaned and weren’t back yet. We enjoyed a movie which was nice but $30 per person seems a little excessive. The movies are played using Apple TV. The staff was great. But the overall value just wasn’t...
