During our week in Springfield, IL  we camped with our RV at the Double J Campground in nearby Chatham.  This @Good Sam rated location was seriously awesome and perfect for our family.  They had a great swimming pool, open late, that my daughter and her friend enjoyed and a really fun miniature golf course that kept my teens busy for hours.   Our site had full hook-ups along with a fire ring and picnic table. We also had free Wi-Fi and cable TV at our site.  One of the reasons we thought this campground was so amazing was all they had for people to do. You can see this huge area with tons of outdoor games, sports area, playground and more. They have several outdoor games under a roof area so you can still have fun even if it rains. Check out this pavilion. It’s perfect for group get togethers. And the playground was a favorite with kids of all ages.   Scout, out dog, loved the brand new 2 section off-leash area dog area where she enjoyed playing and meeting new friends. The grounds were kept so clean. I can’t imagine how many hours they spend mowing the grass and keeping the gravel roads so pristine.   Even though we travel in a class A motorhome, sometimes we need to use the campground bathrooms and showers and this one was so big and super clean. We also enjoyed the laundry room to make sure we hit the road again with clean clothing. It was well lit and had plenty of machines so multiple families could use it.   If you’re looking for a campground near Springfield that has so much to do, our family highly recommends Double J Campground! We promise you won’t be disappointed!   #springfield #Illinois #campground #review #RVing #camping #doublejcampground #summeradventure2023 #travel #goodsam #campingworld #familytravels #touring #traveling #pineforestadventures

Double J  Campground Chatham Illinois: This is a very clean and obviously well maintained campground.  It's definitely big rig friendly with many pull through sites. They are open year round and have 120 full hookup sites available.   The campground is close to a number of interesting places to see including the famous route 66 and the Lincoln museum. The office has a variety of things available to purchase along with free local guides or books and movies you can borrow and more. The folks that work here were all helpful and friendly. Amenities include a laundry facility, bathrooms, pool, mini golf, shuffle board, playground, Wi-Fi, and a very large dog park broken into two fenced areas. Our utilities (water, 50 amp electric and sewer) were all stable during our stay.   The sites are all gravel and level with nicely spaced grass areas between them.  Each site also has a picnic table and fire rig. The WiFi was typical of most campgrounds, in other words, slow. The only real negative is that you are very close to a major four lane highway.  The pool being the closest to it can make talking a bit tougher then one would like.   If you're in one of the first few rows of sites it can also be louder then you would hope for but not obnoxious, as expected sites further back have the sound drop off. All in all we would be happy to stay here again when in the area.

We have been camping for many years, and have been to countless campgrounds. Never have we experienced such disrespect and disappointing customer service in all of our camping adventures. I see the 5 star reviews, and I see the one star reviews. I've come to the conclusion that if you don't have any issues or problems that arise then you would have no idea the male owner and his wife have explosive tempers. It was one of the worst displays of unprofessional ism I have ever experienced. It rained a short while and all the runoff came to our campsite, because it was clear we were in the low spot of the campground. All the campers around us were dry and enjoying campfires and sitting next to their campers. We were in a foot of water and our firepit was completely submerged. It was 7pm at night and we called the front desk to ask the owner to come out and take a look at our site and see if we could get a discount for the evening since $50 a night for the only flooded site on the grounds was unacceptable. He marched down and literally LOST HIS MIND. He called the sheriff on us and behaved like the Karen of campers screaming "they are threatening me!!!" nearly hysterical. When we asked him what we threatened him with, he later said, "you threatened not to come back." Well you left THAT part out when calling the sheriff, sir. He then fabricated an accusation that my fiance was drunk, when it was absolutely the furthest thing from the truth. I am sure he will have some response to this review and twist it just as I have read all the other negative reviews and saw him throw the blame back on the campers. When you own a business, you make things right. His choice was leave or move. At 7pm at night. After the sheriff arrived as we were packing up to leave, you could clearly see they thought he was nuts but had no choice but to stand guard until we left the grounds. The officers were very professional and we greatly appreciated that part. He also reneged on giving us a refund. We will be sure and tell everyone who we know that camps never to camp here. Never returning there is not a "threat", sir. It's a promise. I will also be sending a report to the BBB. Update 1/2021- reply to your untrue statements. NO ONE was drinking at our campsite. I guess we can add liar to your review. The only threat made was we would never return. That isn’t a threat. It’s a fact. Actually our neighbors campers told us that they thought the owners acted inappropriately and the police told us the same. They have responded to complaints their before and know the owners well. Too bad for these owners that they don’t know how to be truthful and handle...

I just spoke to an unbelievably rude individual when I called this campground. I assume she's the owner because I would hope that an employee would not be working long if she handled potential customers in this manner. I called to simply inquire about how I could pay for a campsite so my children and I would be allowed to come onsite and visit my parents, who are currently camping here, and swim. I recognize the current Order from our Governor but was trying to find a way to legally register as a camper in order to visit. Before I got through my first sentence, the woman who answered interrupted me and loudly said NOPE! She then proceeded to very abruptly tell me all about the rules for visitors and explained that tent camping wasn't allowed. I then tried to explain that I had gone on their website and was trying to register for a camp site with a pickup truck. Before I could even say the word "truck", she again loudly said NOPE! and rambled on more information about how that wasn't allowed and you have to have a camper and on and on. When she finally stopped talking, I asked for clarification because their website clearly allows a pickup truck to register for a camp site and I tried to explain that we were simply trying to find a way to visit my parents but to no avail as I was so rudely interrupted for the 3rd time as she explained to me how a pickup truck can be equipped to be a camper and after more ranting about that and the Governor's Order, she finally ended her statement with "I'm not going to risk my life so you can come swim". I admit, at this point I was very upset at the manner in which this person was treating me but this statement did make me laugh. I realize tensions are high with the current situation but hysterics in a business aren't helping anyone. To clarify...I wasn't trying to skirt the system. I wasn't trying to sneak my kids in to swim even though my parents could have technically registered my kids as campers. I was trying to legitimately pay $50 for a camp site so my children and I could visit with my parents who are here from Florida for 5 DAYS. Had I been treated with some decency and had my questions simply answered, I would not be this angry. The manner in which I was spoken to was...

If i could give this place 0 stars I would!! Being brand new RV campers we were looking around at different campgrounds to possibly attend. We decided to take a drive to visit and just look around the site. We were wanting to make sure this was someplace our family would be comfortable. My husband has anxiety and unable to travel great distance so this was going to be a great option. First of all let me say as a buisness professional, I have never been spoke to in a manner as I was. There were no signs stating that it was private property, no signs stating that all guest must check in, nothing at all indicating that you couldn't drive threw to take a look. We followed the marked trail, followed the one way signs, etc. We were flagged down by a lady on a golf cart. We figured she was going to stop and just see if she could help us etc. Boy were we wrong!! I don't know who she thought she was, but from the beginning she was rude! Saying we were on private property, and cannot just drive where we want to. Saying we were driving over her grass and causing property damage....WHAT?? Never in my life has someone approched me in this manner, nor a buisness owner. After leaving in great shock, we found out that this also happened to my father in law, and 3 other people we know! Also, found that they are not kid friendly (like they state) as friends of mine had issues with the owners because her kids were riding bikes the wrong way on the gravel lot, mond you the kids are under 6???? Never have we been treated so poorly!! I would never recommend this campground to anyone. Reports have been filed to BBB and SamGoodie as well. So sad as its a beautiful property but ran...
