This was our first time camping at Riffe Lake Campground. We stayed from August 11 thru the 15th, 2024. We were in site T9, which was a peaceful, private site. All the tent sites on lower loop were very private. The grounds were very family friendly, and quiet time was observed by everyone. ||Close to the lake; a small trek, but not bad. Bathrooms/showers clean and nice...even the porta potties! Access to wood/ice avail 24/7. The staff? Very friendly and helpful. The store was closed half the time we were there, (closed sun afternoon, mon and tues) but staff was usually avail to help us with anything we needed. ||We didn't take advantage, but there's places to play volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, and they have a small "bandstand" type area for concerts, etc. (None going on while we were there).||There were plenty of fishing places besides Riffe Lake, which my grandsons thoroughly took advantage of every one, from Swofford Pond, to Lake Mayfield, to Riffe Lake. Lots of wildlife...even seen several deer. ||My only complaint, and why I didn't give it 5 stars? Our site, as private, big, and nice as it was...there was only a small tent area...prob fine for a 2 man tent. But we had a 4 man tent...and a small part of our tent hung over a drop-off. ||Yes, there was plenty of other places on our site that we could have put our tent, but other than that small tent pad, the rest of the site was covered with good sized rock...which wouldn't have been comfortable to sleep on, even with our sleep pads. (But we scoped out the other tent sides on the lower loop and found a few where we will stay at in our next visit).||Overall, we had a great time, and can't wait to come back! I would recommend Riffe Lake Campground to anyone who wants a small, private, and safe...
Read moreFirst off the staffs were very friendly. Shower and bathroom by the office are decent. It is missing two stars for two reasons:
I reserved a site that is supposed to have a 30A outlet but only a normal household 110V outlet was available. I drive an EV so it is a big deal since we planned to visit mount rainier the next day. A 30A outlet would give us enough juice to continue our trip without detouring west to Centralia. We had it plugged in all night anyway and it was able to keep our AC running but without actually charging the car. I know it shouldn't be a big deal for most of the people but it was the only site available and I wouldn't booked it if I knew a 30A outlet is not available. We ended up driving back to Centralia to charge and decided to just go home because it was already late.
The site is mainly gravel and it was very dusty. We were right next to a turn with vehicle going in and out very often. With the wind blowing at us and with everybody having fire around dinner time, there was already a thin layer of dust on basically everything in our first 30 minutes there. Fortunately we had a tent attached to the car and we slept inside the car. The next morning I even found a thick layer of dust on my windshield and it didn't go away until I went up to highway speed.
Other than the reasons mentioned above we think everything else was good. I mean if you don't care about electricity and air quality, this location would be pretty good for you TBH. I see some people complaint about the neighboring noise. Yeah we heard people chatting loudly late around 10-11 pm but since we slept in our car we didn't hear anything afterward. I am sure it would be much quieter if I didn't go during...
Read moreCheck in was super easy and the staff was nice. Campsite was clean and picnic table and fire pit were in good condition.||||The prices in there store were comparable to those in our town (with exception of the ice cream). They definitely don't price gouge unlike most campground stores. Store also had useful items, not just novelty junk, which was a huge plus. Bags of ice and firewood costs were extremely reasonable. Had ice cold pop and sunburn cream, both which turned out to be necessities.||||Campsite was clean and so were the Portapotties and bathrooms. It was also quiet at night which was a huge plus. Staff was around if you have questions or concerns. Also felt safe staying there, which is again a huge plus.||||Don't get the Riffe Lake campground confused with the MossyRock park run by Tacoma power. This place (Riffe Lake campground) is much more family friendly and quiet. There is not boat access and it is a steep walk down to the water, just be aware. They do rent boats and kayaks if you didn't bring your own. Very short drive to Stofford pond for fishing.||||Had multiple black tail deer sightings, several just walking carefree through the campground. Was an amazing sight to see. Also was a great place to see eagles. We had lots of close sightings of eagles right over our campsite, which was super cool. Plus for our trip there were no mosquitos (July 2021).||||Plan to stay here again and highly recommend it for anyone camping in the area. Not a tourist trap, it is a nice honest family owned/ran...
