My wife and I have stayed in a lot of places over the years. We've seen it all from good to bad. We are getting more picky the older we get though. lol. So yeah, we usually start with a lot of research and try to find a place online with a lot of good reviews (which can be a challenge sometimes). Then we have to try it out ourselves. You always have to try it once to see if the reviews are really on point or not. Most of the times the reviews are pretty accurate. All the good reviews for this place were right on point. So, we too, loved Heritage House. We had never stayed in this area. I was looking at google maps to find a good break point for a long drive. Usually there's nothing good around your perfect 'half-way point' on the map but we got lucky with this place. We prefer B&B's (over hotels) when we can find good ones with good prices - and when we need them to be on the map at a certain place. Well, this one has to be one of the nicest B&B's we've ever found and at such a great price too. This couple did a fantastic job remodeling this farm house. One of my former businesses was house remodeling and these people have reached perfection with this old house. And of course I tend to notice the tiniest of details when it comes to quality or lack thereof. This was a quick stay for us, but I'm quick to notice stuff if it's off. Actually, when I noticed how nice the place was, my fun little game was to look closer for imperfections. Couldn't find any. So it goes without saying that we'll definitely be staying again when we drive back this way next year. Since this one was just a quick stop-over for us, we didn't get to see much of the surrounding town(s) so can't speak to that in this review; maybe next time. We arrived late (like 10 or so) but everything was laid out for us to check ourselves in. We also had to bug out early so we didn't even get to meet or spend time talking with the owners. They have a young baby and have to retire by early evening for obvious reasons. I have to tell you though - the owners were so nice on the phone and via texts. It was so great of them to make our quick stay so effortless. And they left us vouchers for the breakfast bakery a mile down the road which was absolutely amazing. Boy I wish we had a bakery like that a mile from our own home. YUM!!! And the vouchers were a perfect way for us to get on the road very quickly and efficiently that morning. Kudos for that. Oh by the way, don't forget to ask them about their discount for military vets. I want to thank the B&B owners for that again - that really meant a lot to us. Lastly, we stayed at this place based on the online reviews, so we hope that our review helps someone else out too. Pay it forward and leave your own review...
Read moreWe live in nearby Mount Vernon and were looking for a getaway close to home. We are so happy we found Kate and Jeff's Heritage House just a half hour away in Mount Gilead. The farmhouse has been in the family since Kate's great grandfather owned it (we loved the photos!) and the family has clearly treasured the home and modernized it to provide their guests with a beautiful, comfortable setting. We enjoyed talking with Kate and Jeff and Kate's mom Glenda who helps out at the B&B. They have clearly poured their hearts into the B&B, decorating it with care and rustic flair. Jeff crafted some of the hanging barn-style doors himself! Kate had great suggestions for meals. We enjoyed the bountiful dinner for 2 at Cabinitas (enough to serve 4) and breakfast at 8 Sisters (Kate had a shower that morning and offered complimentary coupons for breakfast). We enjoyed a hike at nearby Gleason Nature Preserve and exploring Mt. Gilead State Park. We felt completely relaxed by the time we left. This young couple will do very well with their new B&B venture. We wish them every good wish and will...
Read moreKate and Jeff are lovely people who have created a beautiful and serene space. My husband and I stayed in the Chapman room for four evenings. The decor is tastefully done and is very welcoming. We enjoyed our evenings on the back deck. The common areas are comfy and inviting. We had everything we needed for a wonderful stay.||||The B & B only serves breakfast at the home on Saturday mornings, but Sunday through Friday guests receive a voucher for up to $8 per person toward breakfast at a wonderful bakery just a mile down the road. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning meals.||||The only thing to note is that the house is located right on Route 95 and there is traffic noise late into the evening then again early morning (around 4 am). The traffic didn't bother me, but it did keep my husband awake.||||I would book these gorgeous...
