We visited Battle Creek Campground after we discovered that our intended campground (Elam Campground) was full. We looked at the map and noticed that Battle Creek was not too far away and decided to head here instead of other closer campgrounds. Battle Creek is just outside of Mineral, just to the west. Upon arrival, we noticed that there was a campground host, which is not common with these small no reservation campgrounds. The host sold firewood, which many people were taking advantage of (we brought our own). The campground was about 1/3 full, which was perfect for us, as we don't like camping in close quarters. The campground has both pit and flush toilettes and some even have electricity! Because of this, the sites are a little more expensive ($16-18 per night, I believe). Also, pets are allowed, but must be on a leash at all times (I found this out the hard way). Also, fires must be out and totally dead at night, otherwise a forest service ticket may be in the mail. Someone with come through the park at night and check fires. ||||True to it's name, Battle Creek runs alongside the campground and it a short walk from the sites. We went fishing early Saturday morning and quickly caught two nice looking Rainbow trout that we scrambled into our eggs. I'm pretty sure they are planters, but that doesn't mean they didn't taste good! There are plenty of other areas to go fishing, other than near the campground, it just may be a short hike from the car.||||If you are looking for something to do, Lassen Volcanic National Park is nearby. It has a very cool visitor's center and some good hikes, along with great places to pull over and have a picnic lunch. If you don't want to visit the park, head into Chester and stop at the Pine Shack Frosty for lunch and a treat (hint: try the chocolate banana shake). It is also fun to take a drive around Lake Almanor.||||Feel free to email...
Read moreI have been going here for about 10 years! It has always been a really quiet and beautiful place to camp. There is only one full hookup left over from the past when they had two hosts. The area is central to a lot of Trout Fishing. I would have to say that it has always been more of a Senior Persons Camping Area. Lately, younger tent campers are here and things are changing. It is noisier and people seem to lose their children and dogs a lot because they don't know or just don't follow the rules. I have always recommended this camp to my friends. Now and I am reluctant to do so. The campground has really become run down over the ten years that I have experienced because it is not maintained like it should be. The Government does not know how to make a profit so I assume they don't have funds. Management has been getting worse over the years. This could be a great place and attract more campers if it were maintained and management became more involved. They should do maintain in the winter so that that can open on time for one in the spring. I still go there even with the problems because it is so nice and quiet, because I am the only one there during the week except for the Campground Host.|Management, Management, Management from the top down is the problem. If things were done properly they would make more money to use to keep things...
Read moreWe ended up staying here after our original camping reservations ended up being in a very weird location. The sites are spacious with plenty of options for pitching a tent or 2. The camp host was amazing. We had a couple of college kids partying in a site close by and they were loud late into the night. By 11:30pm, the host had ran them out, and then personally apologized to us for them the next morning. It was obvious he cares about the campground and strives to make...
