I've known about Tom's Cove for a while now and have been camping in Chincoteague for a few years now. Typically we stay at Jellystone because of our kids, However we got a night away from the kids so me and the wife decided to try here. We were on site 34.
Every Staff member I encountered was very friendly and helpful.
I do believe that the nightly rates of this campground could be raised $10-$15 per night over the whole pricing system in order to bring some things around the campground more up to date.
There are Three campgrounds in this area besides Tom's Cove and two are owned by sun outdoors, So its important to Acknowledge that and make changes in order to compete with them.
One upgrade should be the payment system. It's 2023 there has to be an upgrade for credit card machines / and a website to make reservations
-Another one is the outhouses and bath houses. They were flooded with mosquitos, Probably the worst I've seen on the island. I've camped many times at jellystone and have never had this issue even being outside... There is a way to keep them under control. I know we are camping, but this is something really important.
-A Few Showers Didn't work too well or work at all (Personally I believe these should be demoed and rebuilt Brand new)
Considering Tom's Cove has one of THE BEST Campsites for The VIEW of the water and sunrise, I cannot argue that. I was Blown away by the view. and we got to see some ponies walk across the river
-The grass was a little high on our site and it seemed that the maintenance Was Slacking on the housekeeping/ Grass Cutting around the campground.
-Overall This Campground is great for Adults and teenage kids, I don't think it is the best place to bring young kids because it will make the experience a little stressful.
-Before visiting this campground I already had my mind set that it was not a Jellystone. Which is okay, they dont have to be,
But making small improvements overtime will keep this campground in business and could potentially Blow a Jellystone out of the water one day.
-Besides the minor things I believe should be worked on I had a great time and So did my wife. The views are great, Staff is Awesome, and Location is phenomenal. I'm not trying to down talk this campground because There is no reason to. These are just some improvements I would like to see when I come back next time, and if its a little more on cost. That is okay with me if changes are being made.
Thank you to all the friendly staff and a great weekend.
Just a little side note. If you're looking for breakfast before 8am don't waste time looking for a Diner, Go to MR. Baldy's right around the corner, he seems to be the only one...
Read moreOverall, my stay at Tom's Cove Campground was pleasant. The showers were consistently hot and clean, and the staff made sure to keep the bathrooms tidy. They were also accommodating with site needs and requests, which was appreciated.
The staff members were all friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout the campground. The pool was clean and well-maintained, although it would have been nice to have more functional umbrellas for shade. It was a bit disappointing that children were not allowed to have any pool toys, even small diving rings.
One issue I encountered was that the adults tended to take up a significant portion of the shallow end of the pool, leaving the kids to the deeper end. This made it a bit challenging for the children to enjoy the pool fully.
On a positive note, the docks provided a great spot for fishing and crabbing, offering beautiful views of both sunrise and sunset. This added to the overall enjoyment of my stay at Tom's Cove Campground.
Additionally, Island Cruisers, which is on the campground offers a range of recreational vehicles for rent, including golf carts, bikes, and other options. These rentals are available by the day or on a weekly basis, providing guests with convenient transportation at affordable rates during their stay.
Furthermore, the campground's store offers an excellent variety of items, including firewood. This is a convenient feature for campers who may need to stock up on supplies or forgot to bring essential items. Having access to a well-stocked store adds to the overall convenience and enjoyment of the campground experience.
Unfortunately, during my stay at Tom's Cove Campground, I encountered some challenges as the laundry room was closed. This closure posed difficulties for me as I was unable to access laundry facilities during my time there. It would have been more convenient if the laundry room had been open and available for use.
In conclusion, Tom's Cove Campground provided a clean and friendly environment with enjoyable amenities such as hot showers, clean bathrooms, and scenic docks. However, improvements could be made in terms of pool umbrella availability, allowing children to have pool toys, and access to the laundry room or an update to the website so that people can pack accordingly. Overall we had an excellent experience and look forward to staying at Tom’s Cove...
Read moreBEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!!! I wish you could leave a zero for this review because this is the worst place to camp. We have been coming to Toms Cove for over 30 years past experiences all great with wonderful memories. This year the worst stay we ever had anywhere. Reservations still cannot be made until you get there, unless you want to snail mail a deposit but that only saves you a site you pick what they have available when you check in. The store is over priced and also has gone down hill over the years very limited supplies and extremely over priced. The grounds are run down and haven't been updated in years,, everything gets dusty from the roads, the pot holes are ridiculous. The swimming pool is over crowed and to small for the amount of guest they pack into this place. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and they are small. The showers are also tiny and heavily used and are always disgusting. Just run down and outdated. After dark this place becomes a cruising ground for golf carts blaring music, kicking up more dirt cursing and drinking. So if your looking for peace and quite in the evening not the place for that either. To the wonderful lady who tries to clean the bathrooms everyday I hope they pay you well to clean up after all the nasty people who don't take care of others property. You are a kind and caring lady and you do a great job trying to keep those areas clean. Everytime we come across you always treated us kindly and we thank you for that.
Now let's move on to the Assistant Manager Tiffany you need to loosen the nose ring and clean your self up if you are representing someone's business you are literally the trashiest person to have interaction with. Unprofessional, rude and think you are in some sort of power. You don't listen to your guest when they try to explain themselves. Your answer appears to be just kick out the other guest for any reason and give them an hour to pack up and go. You need to Google management skills for idiots its not hard. I hope the owners of this campground read this review because they need to be aware that this trash is running off your guest who have faithfully visited your campground for years. BEWARE ALL DO...
