At the check-inn, the receptionist was very uninterested. The pool -the main reason for chosing this hotel- was closed as of 5pm (we were there at 4:45) due to cleaning. Entering the room, we found dead bugs on the bathroom floor. There was no wifi reception, so we asked the reception for help. Two hours later we went back to the reception (they haven’t reached out to us) and there we recieved a note with two phone Numbers of the wifi service doet with the instructions to use the phone on our room. It seems to me that is exactly something a hotel ought to take care of? Nevertheless we tried, but our phone didn’t allow us to make calls!?!||In the evening we had diner in the hotel restaurant. In this depressing surrounding -really nothing had been done to make the place look like a nice place to be, there was one table taken, and we where located directly beneath a very loud airco unit. |The waitress clearly wasn’t happy with us visiting only three quarters before closing.|The food was fairly oké, the service was nothing more than bringing stuff.|I|The next morning in the same boring restaurant -that looked actually even worse than a sportscantine in the 70’s- we found out that the ‘complimentary breakfast’ for the four persons room only was for 2 persons?!?!!|The receptionist was pretty quick with showing me the small letters in the contract saying so. Our mistake, but on the other hand: this could have been communicated more explicitly.||The absolute worse of it all, is that with all inconveniencies, none of the staff members seemed to give a damn. They were unfriendly, were chatting with each other while having customers waiting and had no empathic Notion whatsoever; |really so much not consumer friendly.||On top of all: there was more garbage next to the bin, than that was in it!|||Tip: if you are planning to go to Chelly Canyon, choose Thunderbird Lodge. Even better located, much more honest about what you get, especially in the restaurant. ||I wouldn’t recommend anyone to...
Read moreBooking including breakfast is a complete scam, and booking conditions don't mean anything to them, see quote below.
When you book online with breakfast included, after arrival you'll find out printed on the vouchers that drinks and gratuity aren't included. And when you get the check, you'll see that tax isn't either. And you still have to pay all of these as a percentage of the full breakfast price being $20 per person :(
Also, when booking for 3 or 4 pax in a room, during the online booking process it says that breakfast is included. No reference to any policy or any other reference, or a choice to book additional breakfast.
But when you check in, you'll hear that there's a policy that it's only included for 2 pax. You can buy additional for $10. So I went back the next morning to buy one, the same front desk person said that he hasn't said that. At the end you pay $20 extra pp for a mediocre breakfast.
They play the card that it's "an external restaurant", sure... I booked including bf for all pax.
I called IHG Guest Relations. Created a case but they didn't come back to me. They don't care about this scam. And sell this hotel, it isn't worth the IHG brand.
I am a frequent visitor to the four corners area and have proudly brought numerous family and friends to the gorgeous Canyon de Chelly to show them the glory of the southwest in all its splendor. The Holiday Inn, at the mouth of the canyon, is really, to me, the only show in town. The location could not be better for access into the canyon. It is far enough away from the city of Chile to feel more rural and like you are in nature, with its beautiful trees and grass, actually giving the air a different smell and feel than anywhere else in the area. The Thunderbird, that has been there since the beginning, is charming but run down. The Best Western, down the road closer to town, is a concrete building sitting on a concrete parking lot. Not pleasant. But....the Holiday Inn offers the shade of trees and smell of grass AND a swimming pool. The rooms are actually quiet lovely and very clean. Everything you need to be comfortable is there. Gracia's restaurant, in the hotel lobby is the best restaurant in Chinle...or miles around, for that matter. It is hardly my idea of gourmet, but to be on the reservation and in Chinle for the purpose of exploring the canyon, the food is very tasty, well prepared and courteously served. Being someone who eats light with an abundance of fresh veggies and fruits in my normal diet....I find the fare a bit heavy...but certainly satisfying for the short time you are there. The operating hours are convenient to a spaced out tour of the canyon. It is, hands down, the best choice for a tour of...
