At the check-inn, the receptionist was very uninterested. The pool -the main reason for chosing this hotel- was closed as of 5pm (we were there at 4:45) due to cleaning. Entering the room, we found dead bugs on the bathroom floor. There was no wifi reception, so we asked the reception for help. Two hours later we went back to the reception (they haven’t reached out to us) and there we recieved a note with two phone Numbers of the wifi service doet with the instructions to use the phone on our room. It seems to me that is exactly something a hotel ought to take care of? Nevertheless we tried, but our phone didn’t allow us to make calls!?!||In the evening we had diner in the hotel restaurant. In this depressing surrounding -really nothing had been done to make the place look like a nice place to be, there was one table taken, and we where located directly beneath a very loud airco unit. |The waitress clearly wasn’t happy with us visiting only three quarters before closing.|The food was fairly oké, the service was nothing more than bringing stuff.|I|The next morning in the same boring restaurant -that looked actually even worse than a sportscantine in the 70’s- we found out that the ‘complimentary breakfast’ for the four persons room only was for 2 persons?!?!!|The receptionist was pretty quick with showing me the small letters in the contract saying so. Our mistake, but on the other hand: this could have been communicated more explicitly.||The absolute worse of it all, is that with all inconveniencies, none of the staff members seemed to give a damn. They were unfriendly, were chatting with each other while having customers waiting and had no empathic Notion whatsoever; |really so much not consumer friendly.||On top of all: there was more garbage next to the bin, than that was in it!|||Tip: if you are planning to go to Chelly Canyon, choose Thunderbird Lodge. Even better located, much more honest about what you get, especially in the restaurant. ||I wouldn’t recommend anyone to...

Booking including breakfast is a complete scam, and booking conditions don't mean anything to them, see quote below.

When you book online with breakfast included, after arrival you'll find out printed on the vouchers that drinks and gratuity aren't included. And when you get the check, you'll see that tax isn't either. And you still have to pay all of these as a percentage of the full breakfast price being $20 per person :(

Also, when booking for 3 or 4 pax in a room, during the online booking process it says that breakfast is included. No reference to any policy or any other reference, or a choice to book additional breakfast.

But when you check in, you'll hear that there's a policy that it's only included for 2 pax. You can buy additional for $10. So I went back the next morning to buy one, the same front desk person said that he hasn't said that. At the end you pay $20 extra pp for a mediocre breakfast.

They play the card that it's "an external restaurant", sure... I booked including bf for all pax.

I called IHG Guest Relations. Created a case but they didn't come back to me. They don't care about this scam. And sell this hotel, it isn't worth the IHG brand.

  • Edit Aug 1: This response from IHG Guest Relations captures it all, quote: "the rate states before taxes and fees which means there are other possible charges that needs to be paid on site, you can contact the hotel directly before your planned reservation to confirm if there are other charges required to be paid on site. I hope this information helped." So the hotel can charge anything extra, booking conditions aren't worth...

I am a frequent visitor to the four corners area and have proudly brought numerous family and friends to the gorgeous Canyon de Chelly to show them the glory of the southwest in all its splendor. The Holiday Inn, at the mouth of the canyon, is really, to me, the only show in town. The location could not be better for access into the canyon. It is far enough away from the city of Chile to feel more rural and like you are in nature, with its beautiful trees and grass, actually giving the air a different smell and feel than anywhere else in the area. The Thunderbird, that has been there since the beginning, is charming but run down. The Best Western, down the road closer to town, is a concrete building sitting on a concrete parking lot. Not pleasant. But....the Holiday Inn offers the shade of trees and smell of grass AND a swimming pool. The rooms are actually quiet lovely and very clean. Everything you need to be comfortable is there. Gracia's restaurant, in the hotel lobby is the best restaurant in Chinle...or miles around, for that matter. It is hardly my idea of gourmet, but to be on the reservation and in Chinle for the purpose of exploring the canyon, the food is very tasty, well prepared and courteously served. Being someone who eats light with an abundance of fresh veggies and fruits in my normal diet....I find the fare a bit heavy...but certainly satisfying for the short time you are there. The operating hours are convenient to a spaced out tour of the canyon. It is, hands down, the best choice for a tour of...

As an IHG Platinum Rewards Member, this was the most disappointing IHG Hotel I had ever stayed at. I highly recommend IHG perform an internal audit of this hotel's amenities, processes, and procedures...and possibly strip it of the "Holiday Inn" name. WiFi in the room was unreliable. If you want more consistent internet, go into the hallway. Unacceptable. The outdoor pool water was green and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for days. (Its probably deficient in chlorine, shock, and/or algaecide.) Unacceptable. The water in the shower/bath smelled of Sulphur. Hoping my family doesn't smell like that today!Unacceptable. Our room was for two adults and two kids, but the towel math added up to three towels. That meant a trip to the front desk that was manned by someone that was very polite and considerate but also appeared to have had very little training. I do not blame him, but I do blame management as that issue originated from Housekeeping. Unacceptable. If you have a nonrefundable reservation here, get prepared for disappointment and document every issue you have so you can try to get your hard-earned money back. If you have a refundable reservation, start looking for a suitable replacement. If you represent IHG Corporate, I encourage a full internal audit of this hotel's amenities, processes, and procedures as, location and scarcity aside, guests are not getting the value they normally expect from this chain.

Motel on which somebody slapped a Holiday Inn sign out front. I have had better stays at Super 8s. And, I guess, because it has an overpriced restaurant on property, rather than free breakfast, it has three stars and charges accordingly. Just bottom of the barrel in terms of what you would expect from this product. No elevator. Not enough electric outlets, esp near bed (1). Shower head half clogged. Room not pre-heated in the winter, so about 50 degrees when you arrive, and takes hours to come to a livable temperature. Steps from the parking lot to the front door, just to make absolutely sure you have the worst possible time moving in and out with your luggage. But, yeah, feel free to use the cart for your second floor walk up room and over the steps to the parking lot... Wifi, just a mess. Works great unless you actually try to use it; even for something as low bandwidth as opening a simple web page or calculating driving directions. This simply does not correspond to the standards expected of a three-star hotel in the 21st Century in the western world. But they are one of only three in the middle of nowhere, so just shut up and pay. If the brand cares at all about its image, it should yank the flag from this franchisee.

There is a Mask Mandate in effect on the Navajo Nation. This hotel is located just about 1/2 mile from the entrance of Canyon de Chelly. The room are clean. Beds are comfortable. Check-in and check out was a breeze. I stayed on the second floor in the back building. That was great, since i could open up my balcony at night, since my AC wasn’t working to it’s fullest. The outdoor pool is open. Be aware that the water is brown and the hot water smells like sulfur. It is safe, but i brought my own water to drink. that’s just me. ( This is quiet common in this side of the Navajo Nation and Gallup, i don’t know why) The rooms have a microwave and micro-fridge. A single keurig machine for coffe and hot water. Basic Cable with HBO. I wish this hotel carried Arizona local channels and not New Mexico local channels. The on-site restaurant, Garcia, is amazing!
