We stayed at the Shack Up Inn for our anniversary as it was central to attractions across the delta we planned to visit. Although we had made reservations previous to arriving, we noticed an issue with the type of room we had booked. The lobby front desk wasn’t aware of their cancellations and, at first, claimed no further availability. I informed them I had checked not even 30 minutes prior there showed availability. They checked again and found something suitable. |We were feeling kind of displaced and apprehensive about service quality initially, however when we arrived at our cabin we felt very welcomed by Bill. It was pleasant to speak with him about the property and other things. |The cabin itself was quaint and rustic which was adorable. The creative touches and decoration was on point. Although we had no need of anything in the kitchen except for the mini fridge, it was great to see how well appointed it was with coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, paper products, and condiments. The curtains did allow a little too much light and we felt the sound quality was to where it didn’t feel quite private. In other words, we could hear neighbors so they could hear us we assumed. There was also someone walking around with a flashlight later at night. Although, one of the two rockers were broken it still worked, added to the charm and peace of sitting on the porch relaxing. |We were disappointed that the live entertainment started so late however the lounge and staging area was great and the antiques there, and throughout the whole property, were great. |We are early risers and called the telephone number to ask where to leave our room key and no one answered. The lobby wasn’t open early. We did leave a nice tip in the mason jar to help replace paper products and housekeeping. |Although there were a few small bumps we were overall quite pleased and felt value for the money. I feel the true rating is 4.7 but I don’t believe a 4.0 is fair so I will give a 5.0 rating. We would definitely choose this property again above any other in the area and surrounding areas. |Go ahead and book if you’re...
Read moreOld share croppers shacks & crop bins converted into a super casual hotel concept. Location is not far from everything you'll want to see & do in the Clarksdale area, but best to have your own car for transportation. Some food, nice beverage selection & live musical entertainment on site. (Get the tamales!) Generally speaking, rooms have all necessities with clean sheets, towels & even clean floors. However, expect a little layer of dust & some areas that housekeeping may have missed. Our shack had the vibe of a southern hunting camp/someone's grandparents house & it was great! The only thing I'd suggest adding is an oscillating fan or two for the porches. Even shaded, it will be warm in the summer & if mosquitoes love you, bring bug spray. You can borrow acoustic guitars from the check in desk during your stay if you'd like or bring your own like we did. Everyone we met couldn't have been any nicer & the place has a very relaxed feel & vibe. Truly feel like you are on vacation. Highly recommend reading the Frequently Asked Questions on their website prior to booking so you have a better idea of exactly what you should expect. It is not fancy in any way, but that's also exactly what's great about it. Cabins are far enough apart to where we didn't hear our neighbors at all. Each has a window unit AC & since it was hot out, ours running drowned out any highway noise... Which compared to a big city, is next to none. Cotton fields definitely surround the area & it's not hard to imagine a different period of time in history. This place truly makes you appreciate how far we have come from that era, but also provides a living history to it all. Overall, Clarksdale & the Shack Up In should absolutely be on your...
Read moreOne of the most unique and awesome hotels I’ve ever stayed at. If you want to experience true country style living, this is absolutely the place to stay. I booked the Chikin Coop. Very spacious bungalow with 1950s decorations, a charming front and back porch. In fact, every little detail of the bungalow is charming. At night, the only sound that can be heard are the crickets. It’s very quiet and peaceful. One major downside, however, is the bed. It’s very old and uncomfortable. The mattress has a deep dent in the middle, it pulls you in. I slept in an uncomfortable position. I did not get a good night’s sleep. I don’t know if it’s just the Chikin Coop or if all beds throughout the establishment are terribly uncomfortable. I understand the desire to maintain things as they were decades ago, but most of us today have grown accustomed to sleeping on modernized mattresses. My recommendation to the hotel owners is to update the mattresses. The bed frames can remain the same so as to not detract from the old-style decor, but a deep, comfortable sleep is paramount to the enjoyment of one’s travels. Despite this significant hiccup, I would consider returning to enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of this hotel and recommend it to anyone looking for accommodations in the area.
Other pros: friendly and welcoming staff, short drive to Clarksdale and many historic places along the Blues Highway as well as excellent southern...
