So my wife and I just got back from a great weekend at River Campground. I wanted to post this while it was fresh. I wanted to give this place a five star but I think I would have to give it a 4 only because I think this place has so many great things but a draw back for those looking to do traditional camping. The draw back is that it is right off the main Hwy. going to Tallulah gorge and Dillard and you can hear the cars passing in the background as you sit at your campsite. Further, for the river lots, there is a road that runs along the river just across the view you have of the river. You can see cars driving along side the river bank opposite of you while you are sitting on the river. There is some foliage that helps to block cars driving by but you will hear the vague noise of cars behind you from the hwy and in front of you from across the river when they drive by. I should have looked this up when I saw the campground to see the map but did not so this was our fault. But I wanted to mention this because I know when you think of camping you are thinking of a quiet location away from everything. The good news is everything else about this campground is really nice. I found the river to be quite beautiful. No real river noise because the water is high but it is pretty to look at. I also enjoyed the cleanliness of the camp and it's very close proximity to Dillard and Tallulah Gorge. The camp director was very nice and allowed us to stay till later in the day for checkout for those staying through Sunday afternoon. So it was nice we didn't have to be out early. The bath houses seemed nice. At night the traffic noise is a lot better. So if you are hiking during the day then at night after about 8pm you will find it a quieter experience. They do have covered areas at campgrounds so you have a nice pavilion on the river. This would be great to keep rain off your tent and allow you to enjoy being outside on a rainy weekend. You will stay nice a dry at your site under the large covered pavilion at your campsite. Having a cement base, is nice because it feels cleaner. But you will probably want to have a comfy blow-up mattress to be on cement. We stayed at a site with a room above our campground in a loft so we didn't even use our tent. We slept in the loft. It was pretty cold at night even with a heater because the loft is not insulated. But maybe in the later spring months when nights in are the 60s, it's better. Just probably have to watch out for wasps and bees getting in during the day because it's not air tight like a tent. But it definitely may be nice for those looking for no tent camping. I would say if you are looking to not have to rough it as much with a camp site and want a river view that super close to everything and don't mind some noise from roads around, this place is great. I could definitely see how this would be great for first time campers or people passing through with an RV or those with small kids that really want an easier camping experience. There are flood lights and lighting at the sites you are at which is nice too.

Posting before we check out in the morning so I don’t forget because they definitely deserve 5 stars. They have wifi which is a first for us while camping. (It is splotchy but that’s to be expected in the woods, we’re Verizon and still have mostly had 2-3 bars.) When we arrived there was a sign with a number for us to call. (Definitely call earlier in the day to get accommodations made for a later arrival). Tim came and got us from the front and took us right to our sight. There’s supposed to be some storms tonight so he moved us to the sight right next to the one we were supposed to have (which was uncovered) and he put us under one with an awning to put our tent under. Free of charge! He also helped us out with finding the nearest stores so we could go restock our cooler for the rest of our trip. Then to top it all off, we were having trouble keeping our fire going due to the rain and we had ran out of our brush and twigs, he came and chopped up some wood and got it started again for us, and then drove back by a bit later to check that it was still going for us! Loving it here so far and if we ever make it back this way, we will most definitely be checking the availability here first as it’s the best we’ve stayed at all week on our road trip. Other noted things for other frequent campers: We are next to a river but mosquitos don’t seem bad, I haven’t seen any yet but it has been sprinkling off and on. We are also next to a highway so we can hear the traffic constantly for anybody that is a pretty light sleeper. We are both pretty deep sleepers so I don’t see that being an issue for us. We haven’t checked out the showers just yet so hopefully I remember to update this once we do, but the little bathroom shed by our site isn’t bad at all. Obviously it’s camping and not a big state park owned campground so it’s not perfect but considering most of the sites we’ve stayed, it’s pretty clean and it has actual toilets rather than a portable toilet.

Love this campground everyone here is wonderful they treated us like we were family. We rented the river cabin for a week and thinking of staying for an extra week. We have fun using the canoe and the kayaks daily. The water is low right now but I am having a new and different experience each day.I have enjoyed fishing right off my deck each day.I am enjoying the disconnect from the T.V. But there is WiFi here and I don't have any problems with the WiFi becoming disconnected.Which allows me to take you along on the trip with me each wonderful day I am here. The river cabin is nicely equipped dishes, pots, pans, and knives and such. I have been enjoying cooking in the Dutch oven over the camp fire. They don't allow smoking in the river cabin so no worries about the cabin smelling like an ashtray. I know that is a big turn off for the nonsmokers so no worries there. For those who do smoke they provide ashtrays outside on the deck.I brought my own Dutch Oven it is not present just didn't want people thinking it was part of the kitchenware. My 8 year old learned how kayak for the first time here at this oasis. They sell firewood, ice, lighter fluid, and charcoal. So you don't have to leave the grounds for simple little things like that. The attractions and Wal-mart are in a few minutes from here. Also there is a large connect four game in the rec center plus table hockey. I am discovering new things each day here. Also all the tent camping spots have lights, fire pits, and an outlet so you have it available if you need it. Some of the tent areas have a concrete base for your tent. Most of the tent sites have shelters above them so if it rains it doesn't stop you from having a great time.
