Such a beautiful campground, idyllic spot. It's somewhat remote, 1 mile off a road, which is 5 miles off the main road out to Salmon La Sac campground - about a 40 minute drive from Rosyln. I was fortunate to camp here for about 8 days. The campground is basic, just vault toilets, no other facilities. But the location right inside the forest, which goes all the way to the water of the lake is gorgeous. The lake water is completely clear, you can see right through to the bottom.
There are 22 sites, spread out along a trail that wanders through the forest. Parking is only a few feet away from the sites, but it is completely walk-in, you'll need to carry your gear a little ways down the hill. It was $14 a night. It's walk-in only, no reservations. Which was good for me, I could stay the whole week and weekend as I went there on a Monday. In June, it was completely full at the weekends with lots of "extra" campers spread out close by also, pretty empty during the week.
There is lots of dispersed camping in the area also where you can camp for free, many with portapotties available close by.
Cooper Lake was one of my favorite spots,...
Read moreI don't know about this place. The main trail walks through or right next to everyones camp. One group of millennials next to us partied all night long for two nights. If you could even call it partying. More like just being loud like they never left the house before. Conversations were very preschool. They also Walked along the other camps constantly like it was a social hour at a concert. This isn't the Gorge people. Go back to your mom's basement. There is like two good campsites...but if you want to walk anywhere cool you have to walk through other peoples camp. Not much fun...I like more privacy. Forrest service attendant just showed up to collect the cash real quick sat afternoon did a quick walk through and that was it. Then back to the all night party noise. I don't remember being that stupid and inconsiderate when I was young. Somebody just needs to drop a nuke on this country. ...
Read moreUnfortunately I arrived too late to get a spot here, but the grounds are absolutely beautiful. Next time I will make sure to get there Thursday or early Friday. The lake was so blue and clear. The individual sites were not quite as secluded as some other descriptions led on... A few of the sites were further up and surrounded by bushes, but wherever you camp it is likely people will constantly be walking by.
One thing however that irked me were the types of people there. And this has nothing to do with the actual campsite but I must say: HIPSTERS are ruining WA camping everywhere!!! Almost every campsite was full of hipsters and guys and gals were walking around with all sorts of extras and gadgets that are so unnecessary for camping. Who needs to Snapchat while camping?? Hipsters please go back to Portland or wherever you are from and please stop invading nice...
