My family has been going up to Clear Lake since the 70's. I haven't been able to get up there as much as I'd like, but was able to spend a couple post-Christmas days at the lake house with my wife and in-laws. My sister, who gets to the lake far more often than I do, recommended Stonehouse Cellars as a spot to visit...
I'm in the wine business - been in wine retail and hospitality for over 20 years - so I know good service and hospitality when I experience it. I can say that we had an amazing visit at Stonehouse.
The tasting room is fantastic - beautifully designed and appointed - very welcoming and comfortable. Has amazing views. We were there on a cold & rainy day and so were not able to walk the grounds or sit outside, but I looks like a great place to hang out, rain or shine.
The wines were also very impressive. We shared 3 flights and got a few extra pours, so we tasted 15-20 wines. I was most impressed by the Cabernets. What I enjoyed the most was doing the Cab flight, which allows you to taste 4 Cabs side by side that were aged in different types of oak. Very informative!
What made the visit so special, though, was our hostess, Heather. She was friendly, welcoming and amazingly knowledgable about, not only the winery and wines, but the history of the area. She wowed us with her passion and knowledge and her multi-faceted talents - pastry chef, scientist, opera singer - all rolled into one. She brought all these skills to the table (pun intended) during our tasting visit. She even allowed us to check out one of the guest rooms - highly recommended.
As a parting gift, she sang us a song - in Italian! We had a choice between Italian or French - went with Italian. Is there anything Heather can't do??
What a memorable visit! We'll be back and highly recommend you...
Read moreFrom my 1st visit to Stonehouse cellars, I loved the place and was immediately taken by the owners' and staff’s welcoming, conversant and upbeat presence. And especially enjoyed the barrel tasting during Verticals and Varietals. I’m a red wine lover and that’s what they had- wonderful deep, red wines!
By my second visit, I toured the Stonehouse Cottage and knew it was where I wanted to hold my next birthday party. Jake made the planning easy and while I waited for my big event (one of those decade changers) I signed up for the email newsletter. Also, seeing the guest rooms over the ultramodern tasting room -despite not quite being finished- I knew they promised to be amazing.
Come January, my husband and I joined in the "Silly Santa" crazy gift exchange party. Again it was like being with family and friends though we’d only met the staff. Once when we dropped in for a Saturday tasting, we were treated to handmade pizza baked in their on-site brick pizza oven. How’s that for hospitality!
Now that my party is over, I can't thank the Stonehouse Cellars team enough. My guests were amazed with the property, the livestock and wild life, the special tastings and the personalized tours (again, much appreciation to Greg & Jake). Our cottage accommodations were comfy and private for us and a great venue for hosting two dozen party guests.
Relatives who stayed in the Bed & Barrel suites said it was a special comfort, and all of us savored the fantastic breakfasts included in our reservations! Thanks again Dena for the wonderful spread and accommodating the special needs.
Though I’m committed to red, I am awaiting the inaugural release of Stonehouse Cellars first white wine coming later this year. B Nuckols

Read moreI don’t normally write reviews—but Stonehouse Cellars absolutely deserves one. A group of four friends and I stopped in for a tasting, and from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such genuine warmth that it completely set the tone for an unforgettable experience.
I’ve been to quite a few wineries over the years, and I can honestly say I’ve never felt more at home than I did here. Greg, the owner, treated us like family—like we were his own kids. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable, engaged, and enjoying ourselves. That kind of hospitality is rare, and it made the visit truly special. A lot of the bigger wineries always seem to want to get through the tasting. Not Stonehouse, they invited us to stay longer and hang out with them!
And the wine? Incredible. Every pour was balanced, complex, and memorable. Some of the best wine I’ve had in a long time. You can tell how much care and craftsmanship goes into each bottle.
The property itself is also stunning. The tasting room and surrounding grounds are thoughtfully designed and full of character. It’s the kind of place where you want to slow down, take it all in, and just enjoy good wine with good company.
We had such a great time that we’re already making plans to come back. If you’re thinking about visiting, do it. It’s an experience you...
