Clifton Hotel — Hotel in Clifton

This review concerns the bar portion of the motel, while the bar is nice, the female “bartender” was not. I use bartender in quotations because some random lady commented to us the two working the bar this particular night were not bartenders. I don’t know how she knows but I digress.

Anyhow we went to the bar on 06/12/2021, met this gentleman here, he was nice enough and bought me and my wife a few drinks. When ordered from the bartender he made it very clear “I wanna buy them a drink, on my tab.” Cool, thanks. Anyhow afterward my wife ordered a drink and was never made clear the drink she ordered was a “double” we have no clue what the even means.

Fast forward a bit and I return the favor to the gentleman and buy him a drink. Keep in mind we ordered almost all of our drinks from the female bartender and a few from the male bartender.

Quick side note, when my wife asked the male bartender for a certain drink he said he would try and make it sans a blender but would still try nonetheless, when we asked the female she flat out said they don’t make that drink 🤔.

Back to the review, the female then makes the patron I ordered a drink for, his drink. Ok we are all set and ready to leave, the man who bought our drinks only gets a $12 dollar bill on his tab, hmm okay, the female bartender than comes and gives us ours and it’s substantially more. We questioned why the drinks the man bought us are on our tab and why two drinks were marked “double” or 2X, the woman says “that wasn’t made clear when ordered”, it was, and “that was a double drink” uh why didn’t you bother telling us that before hand?? But here is the kicker, and why I think this place is a scam, she charged my tab for the drink I ordered him! Apparently THAT was made clear?? BS lady! Anyhow I left a review on FB and the owner’s response while cordial, obviously sided with their help, and offered to buy my wife and myself some drinks if we ever go back. Thanks for the offer but we will never return here.

I will say the bar is nice and clean but the help there is totally lacking. I feel we were scammed and I do not recommend coming here for a leisure drink.

Also they only get two stars because the bar is clean and neat and is the only redeeming thing that is noteworthy.

No comment on the Motel portion. This review only...

2 night stay was excellent, up from Tucson for a quiet getaway. Had some fun in the bar Saturday night and Chelle was great for conversation as bartender and manager. Her house made tortilla chips, nacho cheese and salsa were tasty with our drinks and then later sliders and bagged chips for a quick dinner made for an easy night. Karen and Matt as the owners are very welcoming and treat everyone as friends. The rooms are nicely done with lots of nice touches from the renovation. Toiletries are provided and the bathroom was a modern rain shower head. The antique wardrobe and the modern tv and microwave In the kitchenette area with fridge was great! Matt and Karen also took us on a quick tour in the Ranger side by side vehicle down to the San Francisco river and shared lots of the history of the area. What a special treat! This is a very comfortable spacious hotel that takes you back to what I would assume the early 1900s were. All the rooms were completely renovated by Matt & Karen to reflect the era they were originally built without the size constraints... :) The rooms are big and the bathrooms have cool claw foot tubs and walk in showers there are done really well.

The hospitality of Karen & Matt is beyond amazing. They are great hosts who you will definitely see and talk to. They genuinely care about all their guests.

A trip to Clifton just to stay at the Clifton Hotel is well worth it.

For those who know the hotel from a certain show..... My wife and I didn't have any ghostly visitors while there.

One word of caution... don't roll your ankle in high heels on the bottom...
