Baymont by Wyndham Columbus/Rickenbacker — Hotel in Columbus

Our check in was amazing. Norma Jean is possibly the sweetest and most capable woman ever. She was speaking Spanish in her southern accent to a gentleman looking for a fax, answering the phone and paying total attention to me all at once. I felt like this was going to be a nice weekend away for my 11 year old's birthday. We found out upon check in that there would be no restaurant that evening due to a call off, but Norma Jean gave us pizza delivery phone numbers. She's a gem. 1st, the elevator is scary. It's very loud and broke down at least once during our stay. If you NEED an elevator, this is not the hotel for you. 2nd, we came because my son loves hotels and swimming. It was his birthday and we got there on Friday night about 8:00. The pool was going to close in a couple hours so we unpacked and got down to the pool around 9:00. There were several large groups of boys wrestling and splashing everyone (a soccer team and a few other families with large kids). There was no where to really relax since the hot tub in the hotel photos was covered with PLYWOOD, so we left pretty quick without towels as there were none. I promised the kids we would get there at 10:00 when in opened Saturday morning. Saturday morning after a frustrating breakfast we were suited up and heading downstairs when a lady (dressed in all black) rushed by us saying "I'm going to need an hour on the pool". I said, "oh, ok, I thought it opened at 10." She said it was a safety issue and to wait an hour. We did. We could have taken showers and headed out to see a movie and get lunch, but we waited an hour. At 11 we headed to the pool again. Still closed. The ladder in the deep end is broken and someone needs to go get one and install it from what I understood. Could take all day. My kids are very disappointed, but we head out to see our movie and get lunch. When we return, to my absolute surprise, the pool ladder is fixed and there are kids in there. It's packed! It's not a huge pool and I counted over 35 kids in there on Saturday evening. I have photos. We stayed and found a corner to hang out in for a little bit. Sunday morning was again packed, and I couldn't even see my feet in the deep end. It was VERY murky and I had a lot of anxiety about the possible amount of urine and such in there. After being splashed in the face a couple times by completely unmonitored kids, I had to get out. I told my kids not to put their heads underwater or splash each other. There were large chunks of hair on the wet floor and trash. It was just gross. 3rd, the breakfast was a train wreck of inefficiency. It bottle necks in a corner where there is a covered hot foods tray and 2 waffle stations. The milk and syrup are unfortunately also in this corner. It took us a frustrating 15 minutes each morning to get our breakfasts together due to a terrible set up. Also, the frazzled lady in charge of serving the area could not keep plates and forks stocked. I got things out myself a few times. She yelled at me once "Ma'am, you're not allowed to do that" when I needed a plate for my son's waffle and I couldn't find her in the crowd. Ridiculous. The juice machine has a short in the buttons and you have to press it hard in one specific area or it won't work. Guests were teaching each other how to use this broken machine. My son got "apple" juice from it on Saturday morning and it was just water. Not a great experience. We...

The worst experience I’ve ever had. Me an my family came from Cleveland, On a Friday night , soon as we walk in the guy behind was Instantly rude, and racist, long story short, I got my key card went to the room it’s one bed that was like a twin , mind you I ordered a double standard room, so I went back to the desk and told him that was not the room that I ordered he was like I’ll just give you another room and you want have to pay extra , I’m thinking what Extra I reserved this, he still had an attitude, very unprofessional, Got the key card went to the other room soon as I opened up the door is smell like straight urine and one of the beds was broken down, so I gotta go back to the desk , mind you i’m carrying a lot of luggage back and forth, so I get to the desk, tell him about that room , he say i’ll just get you another room on the second floor mind you still with the attitude and I’m just thinking like the attitude is something else and this place is a dump. You shouldn’t even had a type attitude but anyway, the next day we talked to the manager about this means we have we got there any wishes all right well is not refundable but if you want to refund I can send it to Expedia and it takes 7 to 14 days but it’s no guarantee you get your money back and you’ll only get it for the one night. Can you stay the night so we just like no that’s OK it’s not putting no guarantee we get our money back we just gonna stay for another night mine we just all we did was explain to him how rude the guy was how I was sent to all the different rooms and just the disrespect is very racist so we get dressed and we go to the zoo come back try to open up our room and somebody else in there says their room so we go up to the death and say why would y’all have somebody else booked in our room which really was my friends room and they said y’all was checked out get your refund the manager said y’all checked out so we said no, we did not checked out and I said well I still have stuff in the room so how you figure you were checked out nobody said nothing we did not check out how y’all just put us out the room he said well yeah we have your stuff right here in the Plaska bag but y’all are checked out you get your refund and then he just proceeded to his nasty racist attitude. If you don’t like what’s going on, you can leave out the door with my sister got mad and and told him you’ve been disrespectful when you’ve been told online since the first night he ran and got the security to put out the hotel. It was so crazy and it was really the worst experience and the worst hotel I’ve ever seen the back door is broke where anybody can walk in the hotel is no type of it’s not secure at all. I mean you can walk straight in and go to anyone’s hotel without being seen. This is drug addict and they were just very racist. The one lady came out and was complaining saying it was cockroaches and they were just very rude and disrespectful and I would never ever send anyone not even my dog and I do plan on suing the hotel oh yeah and the free breakfast is just a brown paper bag with a banana strawberry shortcake, a bottle of water and a...

All staff was nice that wasn’t the issue. Our room was in severe need of maintenance. I have pictures saved for another report. Not sure where to start but here I go. Bathroom, curtain rod was ready to come out of the wall and was lower and shower curtain was ripped all at the top. Trip hazard while showing due to it hanging low. Stains on walls and paint curling, rusty vent. TV was plugged into the lap and microwave wasn’t plugged in at all. You’d have to move the entertainment center to plug it in. (Not my job) No batteries in the remote. Phone was not properly plugged in at the two separate spots needed to call service desk. The stool to the chair was severely chewed on as well as the mattress underneath that showed. Plus mattress needed to be replaced due to the body looking indent on the mainly use left side. The heating air unit was all broke up looking (I’m assuming from a previous animal) but it did work. And the wall and carpet next to it was severely chewed up. The whole room needed painting. An outlet was pulled from the wall and wires showing. I was with my husband during this work related stay so my focused needs were studying and working out. Well, I didn’t have a study area due to luggage taking up the study table area because we didn’t feel save enough to have luggage on the floor. The exercise room was possibly an 8x8 mirrored room that was not properly ventilated. The room and equipment needed some care as well. housekeeping overheard I would like to use but it didn’t seemed to be clean for some time…she immediately cleaned. So the next day I gave it a try. I Could only use for up to 20-30 mins at a time due to overheating. I brought it to attention and asked for a fan to help but it was a failed attempt. Didn’t use the pool cause it was very cloudy and from what I saw so far I wasn’t risking it. The fan above the pool looking melted down. Was really crazy! I was thirsty during my exercise so tried to use the water fountain but the fountain didn’t work. Very very disappointed in this stay and due to other places being booked up, we had no option but to stay a few nights. I hope the people that are in charge of the up keep off this place really put love into this place cause it sure needs it. I seriously think that since we had a dog that they would put us in a room that a dog already chewed up. Almost forgot to mention that the only hot thing served each morning was a handful of sausages. They only served boiled eggs the whole time. Really was the worst breakfast. The guys couldn’t even get coffee before heading out for work cause it was either cold or there was none. One more thing, when the owners insisted on house keeping, I left two different lights on in hopes of showing they needed replacing. I came back to see that they clearly didn’t pay attention to detail. Above the sink two light bulbs were out and the lamp next to the bed when on was more like a dim night light.
