The property is gorgeous! The virtual checkin is simple. This was our first time staying and we elected to stay in a glamping tent. Our two teenagers came and we brought our dog. We had friends who also stayed, but they had a cabin, where we ended up hanging out for most meals. The numerous trails were great and clearly spelled out the distances for hiking/biking. (Note: We didn't bring our bikes, but should have.) We spent a whole day swimming in the creek, which is mostly clear water with a sandy/pebble bottom and cold: go figure with a name like. "Coldwater Creek." The campsite provides a complimentary bundle of firewood that you have to go pickup near the office. We brought wood, but certainly appreciated the extra wood for keeping our campfire burning. I learned that I am not the most outdoorsy person. Okay, maybe that's not a fair assessment. I love the outdoors, but if we stay again, we'll probably elect to stay in a cabin primarily for my comfort. My husband and boys had no complaints. For me, there's just something to be said about having access to all the world's modern amenities, particularly an onsite bathroom. Sleeping in the glamping tent was surprisingly comfortable with the queen sized beds included, but you may want to bring your own pillow as the ones offered are a bit weird. I think they're like a plastic type material maybe to prevent mildew with being in the tent through changing seasons. I would follow the suggestion that during colder months you should bring additional blankets. Thankfully we did, as the evenings got a bit chilly and with our additional covers, we were comfy. The interior set up is very nice with bedside tables and multiple outlets for charging devices. They even offer Wifi, which certainly made my teens happy when we'd settle in each evening. There's also a decent size mini fridge/ freezer that held all the food I pre-prepped for campfire cooking. The shelf and bench were also well thought out and much appreciated for keeping things off the floor. Additionally, the hooks for hanging towels when coming back from the bathhouse or creek get an A+ in my book. There's an outdoor sink to wash hands, dishes, or even brush teeth without having to walk to the bathhouse. There's an outside shower as well, but no privacy to use it. I could envision maybe rinsing off after being at the creek, but not utilizing otherwise. I think the only negative for me, being the only female in our glamping tent, was having to walk across the field to get to the bathhouse at night. We stayed in tent #6 because it allowed dogs and was closest to the cabins (easy access to our friends) and creek. At least those were our rationazations when booking. In reality, tent #6 was the furthest from the bathhouse, but really, all the glamping tents are pretty close together in their own area on the property. I don't want to be dramatic, as it was still "close" (less than a football field), but I heard coyotes crying the first night we were there and just had visions of me walking alone to the bathhouse and being confronted with wildlife. All I am saying is plan accordingly. Also, make sure to bring flashlights/headlamps as it is very dark at night. Awesome for star gazing, not as awesome walking alone to the bathroom. Did I mention not liking walking alone in nature to the bathroom at night...Ha! All in all, really good experience, I personally just learned my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe just recently stayed in a glamping tent for Father's Day and it was also our 5yr wedding anniversary. We haven't heard much about this place so I emailed the owner Rusty a TON asking every question under the sun. He was more than accommodating and answered every question I had and very quickly I might add. The grounds were beautiful! The architecture was just stunning! So different for a campground located in Milton, Fl. It seemed more like a retreat. Lavender and mint were planted around the area and other beautiful shrubs and flowering plants. You check in the "Office" where you can buy some homemade root beer or ginger ale. They had some mushrooms you could purchase and a few other soda's. The porch at the office was stunning. Rusty the owner said they have already had a few weddings outside. It would be the perfect place for a country wedding. The creek was amazing! So peaceful! I loved that there were a few beaches you could choose from that were private to Coldwater Gardens campers. I loved the garden and the koi ponds. There was a pond about 50 steps from our glamping tent right in front of the bath house. It was so pretty. The tents were far enough away we didn't hear anyone talking in their tents. The walkway's were lighted and I want to say they were motion detected which saves a ton on electric Im sure. The bathhouse was a few yards away and was very clean and comfortable. They had showers in stalls and toilets, mirrors and sinks. We had one queen bed in our tent as well as a twin bed for the kids. We also had a blow up mattress delivered free of charge to accommodate the 3rd kid we had in tow. The firewood was only $7 for 50lbs! It was beautifully seasoned and sounded so good over the flames. They also offered us ice for our cooler free of charge, even though the glamping tent came with a mini fridge. It was such a cute little tent complete with a coffee pot, sink, outdoor shower, shampoo and conditioner! I have not ONE complaint! We will definitely be back to explore in the cooler months! Rusty did say he has over 300 acres out there. We love the solitude of the area but would love to see more exciting activities possibly a short hike away. Maybe some ziplinig, or a 4wheel excursion, horse back riding, an area to shoot bow and arrows would be nice. We would love to spend a week out there and have plenty to occupy our kids. We were only there for one night and we managed to have the kids go on a scavenger hunt and we foraged for blueberries and spent a while at the creek but if we wanted to spend more than a night or two I know my kids would lose interest in camping. lol We had an amazing time and will recommend ALL my friends to go experience Coldwater Gardens. They will NOT be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is one of our favorite family getaways. It is such a relaxing escape from the busyness of life. The accommodations are phenomenal. We have stayed in almost every unit type now and all of them are amazing. If you are looking for quality quiet time this is definitely a place you should visit.
You can tell there is a lot of attention to making the stay one of rest and retreat. Everything has always been extremely clean, (its really crazy how clean everything is) and other than bringing food and drinks, essentially everything else you would need is provided. We love the simplicity of just being able to show up and enjoy time together.
The gardens are beautiful and feel very much like a sanctuary. The creek is a must. We take tubes and float down to the lower sandbar where we normally set up chairs, skip rocks, or throw the football around. It's very peaceful and we get to make new friends with others floating/canoeing down the creek. Adventures Unlimited is nearby and they do tube/canoe rentals that cruise along Coldwater Creek. This is a fun family day adventure close by as well.
The only improvement I can think of is having easier access to the northern part of the creek for tubing. It's a bit of a hike or challenging drive to get to that point. We've done it at least a half dozen times so its absolutely feasible, but we would definitely do it more if access was easier. That said, that's part of what makes Coldwater Gardens charming. It's very comfortable "camping" while keeping the feeling of being out in nature.
We have stayed there 7 or 8 times now. We have celebrated multiple birthdays, had 5 families from our neighborhood come together, completed a work retreat, just gotten away for a weekend as a family, and this time I went by myself to business plan for 2025 under the umbrella of peacefulness found on property. I cannot recommend Coldwater Gardens enough. It's a little slice of heaven...
