Pros: ||-Close (15 mins) to Michigan City, Indiana Dunes, tourism, sightseeing, 10 mins to Restaurants, Gas Stations, Convenience stores, etc.|-Easy access off of the highway. |-Secluded, outside of town.|- Very friendly & helpful management/staff. |- Economical|- Very Clean room (however, see the Con below)|- Parking at room|- Bright, natural light with multiple windows you can open for fresh air|-2 waters left in the fridge for guests (I would suggest using them to brush your teeth)|-Easy remotes for tv|-Controllable AC/Heat unit |-Non-smoking (even as a smoker, it's nice not to have your room smell like an ashtray)|Ashtrays provided outside|-Clean property|-Mattress was new and very firm|-Key code entry to room (no card or keys)|-Easy check out|||Cons:|- as of our stay in October 2022, there were bed bugs in the first room on the right as you enter the property.|- We assume they have an unfortunate well water system and didn't shower because the water was metallic smelling and looked like it would stain fabrics.|-The water problem is probably the reason they don't use white linens. Because the linens are not white, we were not able to see any bed bugs when we did our habitual check.|The mattress was brand new and saw no evidence of bed bugs. However, awoke with 20+ bites.|Fortunately, our luggage and clothing were not infested from our stay.|I'm irritated by the itching, but know that this can happen even at high end prices, so I'll take my bites as they come.||Because the room is so clean, and we weren't able to see evidence of bed bugs in the mattress or dark linens, I'm assuming that Cool Springs Inn is not negligent or dirty, but just unfortunate to be in the business of allowing people to bring in what they've carried from their travels |However, be warned that we are suffering from bed bug bites from our stay in that first room on the right.||-Would be nice to have a secondary/safety lock on the door and windows|||If it wasn't for the bed bugs we encountered in our stay, this would be a 5 star rating because of the price and exceptional hospitality.||Bring your own pillows unless you like...
Read moreI wouldn't even give this MOTEL a star if I didn't have to. Our experience was terrible. We were in town from out of state for a funeral. We called a week prior and spoke with management to ensure they were pet friendly because we have two small dogs (this is the reason we were getting a hotel). Once we arrived at the room, we left to see family 15 mins away. 20 mins after leaving I was called to come back and "take care of my dogs" because they were barking. This MOTEL is NOT pet friendly whatsoever. My mother and I arrived back at the room at 11:30pm we were met by the male manager walking to my vehicle door. He wanted to start a confrontation with us about the dogs. This I found extremely unprofessional, intimidating, and unneeded. I had just spoke to him on the phone. He wasn't giving me any further info. As I tried to walk away towards my room I was followed by him. We were to stay 2 nights and paid for 2 nights. We were told that night, while be rudely approached, that we needed to check out the next morning. They knew we were from another state and made us scramble for a last second hotel.
They are NOT laid back. They are extremely picky for a MOTEL not worth $65/night. I wouldn't even pay $30/night to stay here. Every piece of furniture in our room was broken. The legs were broken and falling off the dresser, the table had huge holes and gauges out of the top, the chair was falling apart and unstable. No money has been put into this place. They probably got the furniture off the side of the road. The beds were very uncomfortable along with really old and dirty bedding.
The owners live at the back of the MOTEL. I could hear them screaming and fighting with each other for several hours. They would go outside and inside while yelling at each other. To sum up, this MOTEL is gross and NOT...
Read moreIf you are accustomed to country living and like more old-fashioned types of accommodations, this may be up your alley. If not, then try to manage expectations. It's also more of a budget-friendly option. This motel is 1.5 miles north of the Purdue University Northwest - Westville Campus, and about a 15-20 minute drive from Michigan City proper. So check driving distance to see if it's close enough to the other places you're planning to visit. It appears to be a mom-and-pop type of business. If you need a late check-in time, this may not be a great option for you. They are nice, but start contacting you to ask about your check-in time if you haven't arrived by maybe 9pm. It's secure in that they use keypads on the room doors and give you a code for it. The rooms may be a mixed bag and not consistent with the pictures online. I'm guessing that they make updates on a piecemeal basis as they are able to. Room 112 has a newer toilet with two flush options, newer bathroom shelves and shower curtain but the bathroom door needs a door stop as the knob had put a hole in the wall. The mattress was a very firm box spring that seemed to be at least 10 years old. If you have specific bedding needs due to joint or back pain, consider taking pain meds to sleep unless you can bring some kind of topper. The AC worked great in July. There were plenty of blankets and a quilt but the sheets had stains and made it questionable whether or not they were actually clean. The towels also had stains and loose threads, so consider bringing your own. The bathroom sink drained very slowly, and the water smelled like pennies, so consider bringing your own water...
