I truly try to stay impartial when reviewing a camp ground, but this was a tough one. This was a solid good and bad KOA camp ground. First let me say I am a KOA fan. We are rarely disappointed. THE GOODS: Beautiful camp grounds. Lush forest setting. Amazing. Friendly staff. Very! Heated pool and spa that are well maintained. Clean laundry facility. Did I mention BEAUTIFUL! Great gameroom. Pool, air hockey, jukebox, etc. Clean, well maintained grounds. Convenient pull-through sites. Each site is very private. They manicure each site well to provide a little separation. Windy, but you are protected by the surrounding foliage on the grounds. Gas is well priced in the area. Great biking. Safe. I felt very safe here with my kids.
THE BADS: THE BATHROOM. If you are a shy pooper, find another site. First off, there is ONE, yes ONE bathroom for the entire camp site. So if you are at the back of the camp, put your hiking boots on. It is a dark, LOONNGG trek to the bathroom. The doors to the outside are opened with some kind of hook so it is COLD. No hot water at the faucets, so those cold days and nights are even colder. It is also located directly next to the children's play area and recreational room, so I hope privacy is not on your list. Two showers to share with the entire site. I'm still waiting for the shower. SOLID 0/10, 0/5 stars, F- rating. The location is far from civilization. No quick run to get a coffee. Shopping is far. FAR! Hey, this may be a good for some. It is WINDY. Chicago and San Francisco both have nothing on this place. This is NOT an exaggeration. This is one of the, if not, the windiest places I've ever been. Now add windy to that long bathroom walk. Noisy. This is a weak negative because conditions always change, but in my five (5) day stay, it was noisy. Wood chopping at 6am. Generators all afternoon. Dogs! It was like being next to the pound. Barking dogs were non-stop. It never stopped. No individual on-site waste dumping. A lot of people peeing in bushes. This is connected to the bathroom issue. Hey, if you've got to go, you've got to go. Small KOA store for supplies.
In conclusion... If you have an RV with a bathroom, and is well insulated from outside noise and wind, you will love this place. Really! It will fit you like a glove. It is an amazing site that is so close to being great. Brass tax. Would I come back to this KOA? Sadly, NO. A solid NO. In today's competitive camping location scene, there are many better options to choose from for a more comfortable stay. Good luck to you on...
Read moreFor camping, this place was perfect. There are plenty of large spots for RVs, cabin rentals and tent sites. While the upgraded tent sites with water and electrical are limited, we did not need it. Water was close by, we had a converter for out car to inflate our air mattress. While close to the road, it was much quieter than I had anticipated. There were 3 stalls for toilets, 3 stalls for showers. The park was full, and I never had to wait for either. The pool and hot tub were a nice luxury to have at the end of the day from hiking. We were able to use the washers and dryers. They were clean and better than any laundromat I have had to use in the past. The people that were camping there were mostly friendly, followed the 10pm quiet time even if they stayed up watching their own fires.
The problem I had was mostly with other campers not picking up after themselves. Otherwise, everything was clean, kept up, even if the age of parts of the camp were showing. The camp hosts were friendly and willing to help with what they could. The morning garbage clean up was a wonderful addition. We just had to put the trash by our post in the morning and it would be collected by staff.
The dirt paths and areas were kept up, no potholes and a cute little K9 walking path with a K9 run was kept clean. While I did not have a pet, I did get a chance to walk by and through those areas. Very clean especially will all the dogs that were around. Plenty of RV spots with wide areas and hook ups at the site. The train ride was just getting set up on our last day. The food shake was closed, but the little store had basics for hotdogs, cereal, teas, milk and sodas and ice. The gift shop was pricier than going into town to the store but not so overly priced which made buying products easy and not much of a sacrifice to the budget.
We stayed at F4, and it was our own little forest oasis. The fire pits were cleaned up, worked well, the picnic tables were large and durable and conveniently placed with plenty of room for parking. The week we spent there was prefect for the location for all we wanted to do and see on the southern Oregon coast and was only about 2 hours away from the Northern Redwoods in California. Just a cute well used space for a campsite directly off of...
Read moreSit back I got a few things to say. It was the first time at a KOA and a cabin. We had stated this place a year ago at a 10 site but we just wanted to try the cabin. It was advertised no power, no heat, no water other than a spigot outside. That was cool because we were looking for a place that would get us to bandon, and a nice place to rest comfortably with our dog. When we arrived we checked in and had a $50 gift card from a friend and our camp host checking us in was having an issue getting it to upload to the computer. BUT RATHER THAN DO THE MINIMUM, SHE GOT ON A PHONE AND WAS TALKING TO SOMEBODY AND THEY WERE WALKING HER THROUGH IT AND SHE KEPT AT IT AND KEPT AT IT AND I'LL BE DAMNED SHE GOT US HER $50 CREDIT. WERE YOU NORMALLY WOULD THINK A PLACE IS SCAMMING YOU I FELT THIS WOMAN WAS DOING EVERYTHING SHE COULD PLUS EXTRA to make sure we got our discount and we were happy.
We got to our cabin and it was so charming. To our surprise the cabin had electricity. A little refrigerator and a heater and lights and a couple of plugs to charge our phones and tablet! A cozy little outside area with a picnic table and fire ring. NO FIRE BURNING AT CAMPSITES EVERYBODY WE GOT WILDFIRES TO DEAL WITH. THERE WERE A COUPLE KNUCKLEHEADS THAT WERE BUILDING CAMPFIRES AND IT'S LIKE NO NO THIS TIME IN OREGON. Okay that was my public service announcement.
The main point I want to make is that the cabin was absolutely spotless. They had prepped the cabin for us and open the windows, and everything was far more than we had expected. This is what we remember about this particular KOA. They care they help and they do a really great job of presenting their facility in the best light. We decided after this trip we're going to make this KOA an annual trip to bandon and we can book our cabin and be nice and cozy or if we feel reckless we could bring all our 10 gear and go totally Davy Crockett. I cannot express my satisfaction and happiness and staying at this particular KOA.
YOU DON'T GET THIS KIND OF TREATMENT AT EVERY KOA. YOU DON'T GET THIS MUCH CARING AND HELPFULNESS AT EVERY KOA. THE PEOPLE HERE ARE WELL TRAINED AND THEY KNOW THEIR JOBS. EVERYBODY HERE WAS HAVING A GREAT TIME. MAYBE YOU...
