DON’T book a room in the lower older building. The location of this place is truly a slice a heaven. We made the mistake choosing the lower original building, built 70-80 years ago I think . Quite frankly, the room #104 we stayed in was disgusting. Dead spiders, dead huge hornets and stink beds everywhere. We were originally in 103 but the TV didn’t work. The bathrooms looked like something out of a horror movie. However, the customer service was excellent, and we had the opportunity to move rooms to the newer building, but chose not to not realizing how awful sleeping in the lower building would feel. There are some major ventilation issues making the room feel very wet. The air-conditioning unit must’ve been 50+ years old and had not been cleaned in a long time. Didn’t work properly. I woke up and my socks got soaked immediately from the condensation building on the floor. We got this room for a comfortable dry night after a rainy night camping the previous evening. We also wanted convenient trout fishing, and I will say the trout fishing in the Cherry River is excellent. Also, there is a fire pit with wood provided, and this motel is very pet friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Just don’t book a room in the original lower building because those rooms are just disgusting and really shouldn’t be legally rented in my opinion. I’d rather pay more money for comfort. Despite really not liking the room we had, everything else about this establishment is awesome and very fair price. I just think they need to do something about that older building. Now I see why we were one of the only people down there and everyone else had a room in the newer upper building the office is attached to. I hope the owner sees this review and considers, making some improvements to the older building or just doing away with it if that’s out of their budget. I’m surprised it’s legal to even use those rooms. That’s how bad they were. I expect things to not be fancy and to be outdated, renting a room in the mountains for a reasonable price, but the room we had was just an inexcusably disgusting. It seems they put more effort into the newer building. Definitely will stay there again in the newer building next time. Again, despite Some of the negative experiences, they were made up for with great customer service And being so dog friendly. Location Is also great being right on the fringe of the Monongahela national Forest and...
Read moreWe stayed here before in the "lodge" and it was at least clean. The rooms are about what you would expect, they haven't been updated since the 80s probably but at least there were no bed bugs. The king sized bed was comfortable and it was pet friendly. The price was definitely reasonable for the area and the room. The 2nd time we stayed we were in a room down in the original part and it was the dirtiest room I've ever stayed in. We checked in and immediately left for the guys to go fishing so I didn't get to inspect the room right away. When we got back that evening it was already after lobby hours, 9a-7p, so I couldn't address my complaints to anyone. I guess if you're just here to fish and don't care about anything else it's ok but I'm disgusted with this room. The TV didn't work, it didn't look it had been cleaned since at least last year, there were flies and other bugs in the windows and on the floor, the batteries were dead on the door keypad so who knows when the last time someone was in here, we had to sleep with the windows open due to the stench of the room, I slept fully clothed bc I didn't trust the sheets were cleaned prior to us getting the room, and everything was just dirty. I understand the building is 70 years old and that's part of the charm but I wasn't expecting 70 years of filth. All this for double the price of the previous stay because trout season had just started. I want to support this location so bad because we love coming to Richwood. This is the only lodging outside of Air b&bs and it has so much potential but unless I have a room in the main "lodge" I won't be staying here again. I think the owners and/or management are also aware of their issues because there's a large handwritten sign on the office door saying "NO REFUNDS ALL SALES ARE FINAL". The office itself is another story and probably should have been an a huge red flag. Stuff everywhere, a bird cage that looks like it hasn't been changed since they got the bird, and just all around disarray. But again, at least there's...
Read moreI stayed here within the last week to enjoy the local fishing. |Where to start.... The room was by no means clean, the mattresses were akin to sleeping on a rock and the bathroom was filthy. What I experienced was no short of laziness. The bathroom tile grout has pink mold that is very easily removed with a simple scrubbing. The bathroom floor hadn't been really been cleaned in ages. Dirt behind the bathroom door could have been cleaned up simply by using a broom and mop.. Obviously not a priority for management. When I spoke to management about the issues the response was " well the lower unit by the falls are much nicer but they are closed, sorry there is nothing I can do now..... While I realize you get what you pay for the lack of care was found to be unacceptable and I'll likely not return here again. Maid service did come in while we were out, one of two trash can was emptied, the beds were not made, the outdoor deck furniture obviously hadn't been cleaned all winter.. Too filthy to sit in. We did get replacement towels but the towel racks had a layer of dust that had been there quite a while, cob webs all over the room. The upside... The setting and scenery are superb.. Too bad the Motel isn't anywhere near up to standards, with minimal effort this could be a goldmine for the owners instead of the appearance of a rent by the hour motel. I realize this is a harsh review, but it is what it is. Please put the effort into making the Four Seasons what...
