What a wonderful place to stay.
Booked for two nights over a weekend, and have zero regrets. Located a few minutes east of downtown Crawfordsville, The Queen and I is essentially a converted farmstead renting out several rooms. You'll be sharing parts of the house with the host family, who are an absolutely lovely couple.
Turning off the main road into the driveway you're greeted with chickens and turkeys scampering around the driveway. It's a very serene, private-feeling home, far enough from downtown to feel totally removed but really quite close to any conveniences you might need. Heck, WalMart is about as far as you can get from it but it's still less than a 15 min drive.
The house is amazing. Loaded with authentic, vintage furniture, 12ft ceilings, and limitless charm. We booked the Queen's Bedroom, spacious upstairs bedroom with a dedicated (and very large) neighboring bathroom, which had a beautiful claw foot tub and old-timey shower. Upon our arrival, we found the room clean and well prepared, with complimentary water bottles and soaps. Mattress was pretty nice- a dual zone sleep number bed.
Downstairs is a shared dining area with full coffee and tea service (Keurig as well), microwave, toaster, and you're allowed space in a fridge to store an extras you need to keep cool. The decor is warm and homey.
I slept well! My only nit was that late risers might benefit from curtains with better light blocking ability. But we were up at 6 for a swim meet, so, not a problem for us. Overall a really lovely place to stay. If you're tired of dreary cookie-cutter hotels, this place is 100% worth a visit.
I will be back for another stay,...
Read moreMy sister lives in Crawfordsville and I can't stay with her due to my cat allergies. She suggested the Queen and I since it was close to their house. She said making the reservation was very easy and it was only about $80 a night. I got to my sister's home and we went right to an event. I called the B&B and left a voicemail. Within five minutes, I had a text telling me that all the guests were coming in late and to enjoy our event. When I arrived at 10pm, I called Holly and she told me how to use the keypad on the front door to let myself in. There was a note for me on the front table with all the information I needed. My room was off the dining room. It was a room with a queen bed and high-ceilings with its own bathroom. The only issue I had was the door to the room did not lock; I'm assuming because the house is more than 100 years old.||||Because of COVID, there was no breakfast offered other than fruit on the dining room table, which worked fine for me since we were eating at my sister's house. The best part of staying there were the animals and the acreage. On the left side of the house is an open pen with ducks, turkeys, hens, roosters and guinea fowl and lots of space to walk around. And let's not forget Gus, the owner's Spanish Mastiff. This 160 pound baby doll loved to walk the property with me and take all the belly rubs I could give. He stays out of the front yard with the help of an underground...

Met the host and she was very nice in offering breakfast options in town as (breakfast is not/was not available at the home). The beds were very comfortable and the coffee located on the main floor was a nice touch. I also felt like the price was comparable to a local hotel.
Cons: it has a strong odor that one would find in an old house AND a farm house. Think a cigar box and pet smart. I have a pretty strong sense of smell so I typically ignore things like this but my 8 year old daughter mentioned it within 30 seconds of being in the home.
In the morning, we met the dog and briefly walked around the property. There are tools laying throughout the yard -an old truck, an RV, weed eaters, and a rake (points up in the yard) are also present outside. I am guessing that they are also breeding dogs there too as there were several contained on...
