Although, I read negative reviews of this campground; my husband and I decided to try it ourselves. First off, most of the sites are inhabited by folks who live full time at the campground. Many have added porches, wooden structures, etc; many to most in a state of disrepair. The rigs go from barely standing to one high end Class A (which was actually in a spot away from the trailers that were in a state of disrepair.) Despite this we decided to stay a few days as we had met a very nice couple in the site next to ours- who told us that most folks only stay over night..There is a reason for that!||When we entered the office to check in we were met by a woman who does not know the meaning of smiling or friendly....we should have taken a clue. We were placed in a site in an area of people who live in the campground...next door the very nice couple and around us, a young man and his son, retired seniors, people just living their life. We have a dog that we travel with and a cat. The dog is a rescue..our vet lists him as a mix breed. He is 70 pounds, big head, short hair. Our dog NEVER barks nor does he bother anyone. He is walked on a leash and we always are respectful of property and pick up any excretment. As I was walking him on Sunday morning; a woman jumps out of a beat up pick up truck wearing pajama bottoms and calls to me..”Ma’am what breed is THAT dog” (meanwhile we are standing in front of a site with 2 chihuahuas barking and carrying on..and my dog just turns to get away!)...I said he is a rescue, we have been told by some he is a boxer/vischula mix....my vet does not know. The woman says “He’s a Pit, he’s a Pit” obviously her expertise and education is above that of a practicing DVM! “We have a policy about dogs; I took the reservation and asked”..and she was told what we KNOW to be true. In addition this dog has been trained with Monks and a private breeder/ trainer who both said ..”he does not possess any aggressive behavior”. The PJ clad woman asked how long we were staying, we had 2 more nights- but felt we would ask to leave the following day. She said she would call the owner re a refund and call me in the afternoon. After this encounter and the atmosphere of the campground- we left. Never did receive a phone call. I called this morning and PJ lady answered and informed me..no refund- you choose to leave. We have policies”. We have traveled all over the US and never encountered this problem.... Private parks can be very good or they can be poor.... this one..You be the judge! Positives re this park- a decent laundry area and big sites..but at a price. Your view may not be what you expect. If in this area stay at Blackwater State Park- a much...
Read moreDawn is very nice and helpful on the phone:) They offer TOUCHLESS CHECK-IN. When you walk up on the porch and turn to your right, your envelope with your reservation and instructions are right there. If you need something else, you can knock on the door of the office. Good Passport America price for our stay. This is an old campground right on Yellow River @45 miles north of Destin, FL. They're known for large, long, pull-thru sites with tall trees, shade, and fishing. I love the distance between these sites for peace and privacy. You don't hear road traffic either. There are a few barking dogs in the long-term section, but only one could be heard after dark for a while. Things to consider for your camping:: The sites are all dirt/sand. They get messy and flood after heavy rains. There is one small laundry room for all sites. Most sites are long term in the back so there's competition for a machine. The bathhouses are old, small, and smell a little musty but my husband found them clean and working (unlike some gulf states' state parks we've stayed in the past few months). Although we're here to visit a relative and see Destin beaches (they're beautiful), we're not too far away from Niceville where there are -4- breweries. That's my husband's passion to check out while traveling. There is a camper 'storage row' next to the overnighters' rows that are not pretty to look at, but certainly don't bother anyone. Another reviewer gave the campground a negative review for these as if the property was full of them. It is not. Most RVs in the park are well kept even if some are older models. We'd stay here again when passing through the Fla Panhandle. Attached are...
Read moreThis campground was almost perfect! We called ahead for reservations and used a discount membership. We arrived around 4pm and were glad we had reservations because the park had no more open spots. Check in was quick and the office has a small camp store with some basic necessities, fishing supplies, and firewood. They also have propane. They have FHU sites, but our site (#24) was a back-in site with 30 amp and electric. There is a dump station. It was a mostly level and sandy. Our spot was great because it was at the end of the "cul-de-sac". The spaces are not uncomfortably close together. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. They do have WiFi, but it was not the greatest. The best reception we got with our Verizon cell service was about 2 bars of 3G! It made it difficult to get any work done. There is a laundry room ($1.50 for each machine). They had a pretty small playground with swings. They did have horseshoes and basketball. The clubhouse had a pool table, TV, puzzles, and books, but it was locked when we tried to check it out. They did offer free coffee in the morning in the clubhouse (which is the only reason we knew what was inside). They allow fishing on the bank and have a small boat launch for guests. The restroom/shower was fairly clean with plenty of hot water. There is only one shower stall and 2 toilets. You can lock the bathhouse door for privacy. ||We really enjoyed the setting with the big trees and the riverbank. The slow internet and low cell signal was the only downside for us personally. We made a day trip into Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach. The weather was cool, windy, and overcast but we...
