I’m giving this place a 3 for the fact that the manager Kevin, swooped in for an attempt to save the day. I got married here last month and I originally booked the venue back in the beginning of the fall. From what we saw on the outside as well as what we saw on the overview, gave us the impression that this would be a steal! We were very excited and were told that as long as we come sign the paperwork at leader a week or two before the event everything would be all good. Well we went to sign the papers and do a walk through a month before the wedding. On this day we were told that we could not use the kitchen features that were gas(all but the oven, microwave, fridge) were gas. In addition to that I was told by Matt the assistant manager that we could not use the stainless steal fridges because “they are for staff and we use them”. I asked him why would they have a state of the art kitchen and advertise the kitchen as a selling point if all of the kitchen is not available? His response was again “it’s used for staff and I could use the grill outside”. They also inform me that they need a layout of the tables and chairs, but also say they are not setting up the tables. (You must Set up your own tables chairs) At this point I had to make new arrangements for my food because it was within 30days of my event and I would have lost almost all of my money with their deposit/refund policy. Okay so issue is not resolved but what do you do??? So we arrive at the week before my wedding and they call me to tell me that I can no longer use the kitchen sink because it was broken since the last event they had. Matt then tells me that we can use the utility sink to was our food and hands or prepare the food. At this point I’m fuming mad!!! How could you suggest something so disgusting! My mom had to get involved and came across a much nicer person, Kevin. He was able to step in a help us with this issue and was able to get the sink fixed in time. Kevin had been EXTREMELY PLEASANT!!! So professional!!!!! It was night and day from talking to Matt. On the day of the wedding, Matt informed me that my bridal party would have access to the building starting at 630am because he told me he would leave the door open for me. Well when we arrived we could not get in, we waited thinking that maybe someone would arrive soon and nothing! At this point I have to call Kevin, Kevin GETS OUT OF HIS BED TO COME TO THE PARK TO LET US IN!!!! As wedding day is under way, things begin to come together until my decorator went to do the gazebo it had vomit on it, no one had checked the premises to make sure certain things were taken care of. Unfortunately at the end of the night the caterers bring to my attention that there was a water leak in the kitchen, bugs in the kitchen, as well as the power kept going out and they had to run a line to another part of the venue to make things happen. My wedding turned out to be a success overall however there were too many issues that could have been prevented. I am forever thankful to Kevin because although the hand he was given was not ideal he handled it in an excellent manner. I would NOT recommend having an event in the CEDAR CREST CONFERENCE CENTER unless they made changes to it or if your only use is for the space and not...

TLDR: Don't go to this park to camp - You will be repeatedly harassed if you are younger than 40, not in an RV, or not camping with a small family.

We had a terrible experience camping at this park due to an overzealous Park Ranger. A friend of ours planned a camping get-together for his wife's 30th birthday. He paid for 4 campsites for the group, well in advance, for one night. After checking in with the park staff on Saturday morning, he began setting up their campsite and tent. Within 10 minutes, he was approached by a Park Ranger, who told him he was aware of the big group coming, and wanted to make sure everyone "knew the rules" about drinking alcohol at the park. I can only speculate that he did no such thing to the numerous RVs and other campsites with open containers (which were plainly visible). As more of our group trickled in, the Ranger accosted multiple people at various locations of the park, completely unprovoked and without reason, saying he knew they were "with the 30th birthday" group, and asking if there was alcohol in any tumbler or cup he saw. No one from our group was drunk, loud, or causing problems for anyone at the park.

At about 6:30 pm, he came to our cluster of campsites. We were all congregated in the middle one - again, we were not loud, boisterous, or otherwise unruly. He began to harass us again, saying there were complaints about the big group, but refused to provide any specificity on the nature of our malfeasance besides saying he knew there was alcohol in our cups. After seeing a camper take a sip out of a tumbler, his aggression escalated and he began to question her about the contents, and began writing up a citation for drinking in public. One of our group, a VA State Trooper, even tried to talk to the Ranger, but he wouldn't budge from his position. The Ranger eventually conceded that the "complaint" was from someone who had been near the bathrooms, and had "smelled like a mixed drink." He also offered no explanation for how they (or he) knew which campsite was the offending party, so he was clearly just looking for a reason to hassle us.

After this incident, we all decided to leave and head back to Richmond for the night instead of staying there. It was clear that the Ranger would continue to harass us, handing out citations for each of us if we let him. We also agreed to seek refunds, post reviews, and file complaints because of our experience...

First time going though I’ve lived in Farmville for 6 years ! I went with a girlfriend of mine - and she raves about it a lot -so was off and I was off and her young son was dying to go soooo. great opportunity to go . I was blown away because I never really knew this was here! The fact that it was so crowded to me meant popular and I now understand why ! It’s a neat little place. Lots of things to do - though shelling out more $$ for the different activities is pretty much what I expected. Now I gave it 4 stars for three reasons . 1.) the younger staff they have running concession and boat rentals. Were in my opinion kind of rude and not friendly 2.) the girl running concessions was rude and not knowable for only having probably 10 items on the list.We we’re thinking about getting the personal pizza and we asked how big it was - to be “ personal”. Everywhere is different. She wasn’t sure just kept saying it’s personal sized. Annoyed we bought one and I will say for the pizza being the most expensive thing in the menu I was far from impressed ! It was a Red Baron pizza which in a 2PACK sold at food lion sells for 2.49 My boss eats them every shift and I buy them frequently as well and I knew what I was looking at and tasting - So so disappointed- 3.) the floats were a brand I sold at dollar general for anywhere from 5-10$ these they were selling ranged from 10-20~$ Highway robbery if you ask me . Burn it won’t make or break me I’d just buy mine elsewhere-it’s just the principle

I will also say another positive note the officer on duty was a true gentleman and just a great guy . He was friendly and Kind and attentive. And the older gentleman who was a worker was just a darling - bathroom was crowded and he emptied trash and asked me kindly to wait until the group in bathroom was finished to give him a second to put the trash can back in. Then wished me and my friend a good day before we left for home . More PROS then CONS But I will return . I will bring my own food and floats ..but I will...

Another wonderful stay at another wonderful State Park. This is definitely a smaller park but that just made it all the more quiet. I'm sure in the busy season it gets a lot more use but we greatly enjoyed the peace and serenity. It was dead quiet at night and the only real sound during the day was the odd train. We stayed in cabin 9 and it was very clean and definitely nostalgic to the cabins I stayed in as a child. We were maybe 40 feet from Prince Edward Lake that we went out on numerous times in our personal canoe. The rentals were closed for the season when we were there but that is very common in the area. Saw plenty of wildlife and enjoyed multiple fires in the fire pit. The Discovery center was quite fun and very reminiscent of things my wife and I both did in our childhoods. The copperhead snake they have in a tank was quite active and was all over the glass observing us while we were there. When we went to the front office Ranger Mickey was there. He was extremely personable and kind and it was a great time talking with him. He also gave me a few pointers on where to fish in Prince Edward Lake and told me about multiple other places close by that are good for fishing. We had an awesome time at Twin Lakes just like we have at every other State Park. Our goal is to visit them all.

Twin Lakes State Park is a lovely park. As it's name states there are 2 lakes in the park. One of the lakes seems to be pretty much dedicated to the camping and cabin area. The smaller lake is the "all in one area". It's closer to the entrance of the park and is where you can picnic, swim, fish and kayak, canoe or do other water sports and there is a playground. There is a nice sand beach, with a roped off area for the little ones to swim. Since our visit was after the swimming season, there were no lifeguards on duty. The lake must be well stocked. We saw several fishermen doing their thing. One walked pass us and I asked him if he'd had any luck and he showed me his string of good sized fish. He said that they were still biting but that 7 fish were enough for him. Anyway, the main reason for our visit this day was to just picnic and enjoy the beautiful day. The picnic area, which was in a wooded area at the lake, was nice, it was clean and well kept up. The restrooms were clean. The playground area was fine. We did not take any of the hiking trails so I can't comment on them. There is a nice little gift shop. The attendant was helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our visit to this lovely park.

We just discovered this state park this summer (So wish we had found it earlier!) We've been yo the swimming beach several times this year and we love it! The beach is clean, the bathrooms are clean, and there are plenty of places to set up in the shade. We even had our son's birthday party there and it was wonderful! The staff at the shop are sweet and very helpful. The office staff ate also very nice and helpful. The lake is gorgeous. You can rent canoes and paddle boats. You can fish if you have your license. In the lake there are ropes to separate a small kids area from the main swimming area. The small kids area has a slide and some floating yoys to play on and is very shallow. The main swimming area is roped off and at its deepest point I can still touch (on my toes lol) I'm only 5'4". 99.9% of the other people we have encountered while there have been very kind and also courteous of other guests. The only issue we've had is on one visit yellow jackets kept swarming us no matter which tables we were at... but it had never happened before and hasn't happened since... I guess that's just part of being in nature and being surrounded by its mystical beauty.
