Convenient to trails and an easy 2 minute walk to a sandy beach on Portsmouth Lake.
The campground is okay, the outer edge campsites were shaded. We were at campsite 22 in the center of the campground and had little to no shade. Felt a bit like sitting at a table in the middle of a restaurant, so if you don’t mind that, the 20’s campsites would be fine, or if you were camping with friends and booked several of the campsites in the 20’s together, it could be okay.
The shower/bath house was just okay and could use some TLC.
No campground office or dump station. We detoured home to stop by Father Hennepin State Park to use the RV dump station there. I’m sure there must be one closer to Cuyuna but I wanted to check out the Father Hennepin park so didn’t mind going there.
We loved the lake and were happy we brought our paddle boards. Amazingly clear and cool water.
The mountain biking trails were well maintained and not too difficult but a fun ride. TONS of trails so you could spend days riding.
Ironton & Crosby are an easy bike ride from the campground.
Make sure to download the campground map before heading out.
Would stay here again but only if we could snag a campsite on the perimeter of...
Read moreThe only reason to come to this campground is to mountain bike, and even then you have to be pretty serious about it to make it worth the money. The campsites are close together with no tree cover on most of them. The bath house barely meets that description, showers are really dirty. Nothing about this place is accessible so I wouldn't plan on coming if that is a concern. The enormous sewage lagoons just to the north of the campground give it a nice background scent of sewage most of the time. The beach is pretty much a little mud hole, very small and weedy. No structures to fish from or anything like that. The lake would probably be decent for fishing if you have a boat but shore fishing isn't really an option with all the weeds. The only drinking water in the campground is at a spigot on the back of the wash house. No wood, ice or anything else available at the campground. There are better state parks, and honestly this park would be better off experienced...
Read moreMM DNR IS TERRIBLE. Came here Memorial weekend as it was listed as first come first serve after a two hour drive we arrived to a paper sign saying you must reserve online... Mind you online it still says first come first serve. The camp ground was half empty but all booked out. There were a few other people arriving around the time we did who ran into the same problem. There were no other camp grounds in the area and so we had to head home. This ruined our entire memorial weekend so thank you DNR MN. Other than that camp ground seemed nice and biking trails seemed nice to we only wish we could've...
